Interoperability and Standards: The Way for Innovative Design in Networked Working Environments
Organised by: Cranfield UniversityIn today’s networked economy, strategic business partnerships and outsourcing has become the dominant
paradigm where companies focus on core competencies and skills, as creative design, manufacturing, or
selling. However, achieving seamless interoperability is an ongoing challenge these networks are facing,
due to their distributed and heterogeneous nature. Part of the solution relies on adoption of standards for
design and product data representation, but for sectors predominantly characterized by SMEs, such as the
furniture sector, implementations need to be tailored to reduce costs. This paper recommends a set of best
practices for the fast adoption of the ISO funStep standard modules and presents a framework that enables
the usage of visualization data as a way to reduce costs in manufacturing and electronic catalogue design.Mori Seiki – The Machine Tool Compan
Exact time dependent Hopf solitons in 3+1 dimensions
We construct an infinite number of exact time dependent soliton solutions,
carrying non-trivial Hopf topological charges, in a 3+1 dimensional Lorentz
invariant theory with target space S^2. The construction is based on an ansatz
which explores the invariance of the model under the conformal group SO(4,2)
and the infinite dimensional group of area preserving diffeomorphisms of S^2.
The model is a rare example of an integrable theory in four dimensions, and the
solitons may play a role in the low energy limit of gauge theories.Comment: 4 pages revtex, 2 eps figures, replaced with one reference adde
Armed conflict and urbanization in Cabo Delgado, Mozambique : a methodology for a critical inquiry
Mainstream urban theory fails to encompass urbanization in Africa. Among its
many drivers, armed conflicts displace rural populations to cities, accelerating urban
processes and impacting sustainability and governance — the phenomenon of conflict-
induced urbanization. In the province of Cabo Delgado, a violent insurgency
has been displacing thousands of civilians since 2017; many of whom have fled to
the provincial capital Pemba, doubling its population in just 5 years. This article
presents the theoretical framework and methodological design for an inquiry located
within a contemporary critique of mainstream urban studies; the goal is to analyse
conflict-induced urbanization in Pemba with a comparative case study, using participatory
visual methods, for which a pilot study took place in September 2022.
With this, the author aims to contribute to engaged urban studies in Mozambique
and Portugal and to transform the trauma of war into opportunities for sustainable
development and prosperity.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
Structural and insulator-to-metal phase transition at 50 GPa in GdMnO3
We present a study of the effect of very high pressure on the orthorhombic
perovskite GdMnO3 by Raman spectroscopy and synchrotron x-ray diffraction up to
53.2 GPa. The experimental results yield a structural and insulator-to-metal
phase transition close to 50 GPa, from an orthorhombic to a metrically cubic
structure. The phase transition is of first order with a pressure hysteresis of
about 6 GPa. The observed behavior under very high pressure might well be a
general feature in rare-earth manganites.Comment: 4 pages, 3 figures and 2 table
