Leakage current and surface discharge phenomena : effect on tracking and morphological properties of LLDPE-natural rubber compounds

    Get PDF
Polymeric insulators are widely used for high voltage outdoor insulating application due to their substantial advantages compared to the porcelain and glass insulators. Although polymer materials have been proven good, research on development of new polymerbased materials is still on going since the benefits of using polymeric materials are not yet utilised to their full potential. In this work, a new formulated thermoplastic elastomer materials that are composed of linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE) and natural rubber (NR) filled with different loadings of alumina trihydrate (ATH) fillers is presented. A surface tracking and erosion test is conducted to investigate the characteristics of leakage current on the material surface under the influence of wet contaminated conditions. A computer-based leakage current monitoring system is developed to monitor the leakage current waveform pattern as well as its frequency spectrum. The scanning electron microscope is used to investigate the morphological properties of the materials before and after the tracking test

Aerial mapping using high resolution digital camera and unmanned aerial vehicle for geographical information system

In aerial photogrammetry, aerial photographs are acquired using aerial camera and light aircraft as a platform. The aerial photographs are usually processed for mapping such as for production of topographic map and other special purpose map known as thematic map. However, this method is expensive and suitable for large area but it is not practical for mapping small area. This study concentrates on the use of high resolution digital camera and a very light platform known as unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) as data acquisition system in capturing digital aerial photographs. The acquired digital aerial photographs were processed using image processing software to produce digital map and digital orthophoto. The results showed that an accuracy of sub-meter can be obtained using the employed method. In Geographical Information System (GIS), it is quite common that topographic map and orthophoto are used as a base map. Hence, the findings from this study could also be used as an input for GIS. Not to forget, the photogrammetric technique could be used not only for mapping but it could also be used for any environmental protection and conservation

R^4 Corrections to D1D5p Black Hole Entropy from Entropy Function Formalism

We show that in IIB string theory and for D1D5p black holes in ten dimensions the method of entropy function works. Despite the more complicated Wald formula for the entropy of D1D5p black holes in ten dimensions, their entropy is given by entropy function at its extremum point. We use this method for computing the entropy of the system both at the level of supergravity and for its higher order alpha'^3R^4 corrections.Comment: 15 pages, minor corrections, typos correcte

Remarks on the tensor degree of finite groups

The present paper is a note on the tensor degree of finite groups, introduced recently in literature. This numerical invariant generalizes the commutativity degree through the notion of nonabelian tensor square. We show two inequalities, which correlate the tensor and the commutativity degree of finite groups, and, indirectly, structural properties will be discussed.Comment: 5 pages; to appear with revisions in Filoma

Sufficient conditions for unique global solutions in optimal control of semilinear equations with C1C^1-nonlinearity

We consider a C1C^1-semilinear elliptic optimal control problem possibly subject to control and/or state constraints. Generalizing previous work we provide a condition which guarantees that a solution of the necessary first order conditions is a global minimum. A similiar result also holds at the discrete level where the corresponding condition can be evaluated explicitly. Our investigations are motivated by G\"unter Leugering, who raised the question whether our previous results can be extended to the nonlinearity ϕ(s)=ss\phi(s)=s|s|. We develop a corresponding analysis and present several numerical test examples demonstrating its usefulness in practice

Experimental investigation of feedforward control schemes of a flexible robot manipulator system

    Get PDF
This paper presents experimental investigations into the applications of feedforward control schemes for vibration control of a flexible manipulator system. Feedforward control schemes based on input shaping and filtering techniques are to be examined. A constrained planar single-link flexible manipulator is considered in this experimental work. An unshaped bang-bang torque input is used to determine the characteristic parameters of the system for design and evaluation of the input shaping control techniques. The input shapers and filtering techniques are designed based on the properties of the system. Simulation results of the response of the manipulator to the shaped and filtered inputs are presented in time and frequency domains. Performances of the shapers are examined in terms of level of vibration reduction and time response specifications. The effects of derivative order of the input shaper on the performance of the system are investigated. Finally, a comparative assessment of the control strategies is presented and discusse

FDM preparation of bio-compatible UHMWPE polymer for artificial implant

    Get PDF
Due to its properties of high wear, creep resistance, high stiffness and strength, Ultra-High Molecular Weight Polyethylene (UHMWPE) was developed to eliminate most metallic wear in artificial implant, which conventionally found in stainless steel, Cobalt Chromium (Co-Cr) and Titanium (Ti) alloys. UHMWPE has an ultra-high viscosity that renders continuous melt-state processes including one of the additive manufacturing processes, Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM) ineffective for making UHMWPE implant. Attempt to overcome this problem and adapting this material to FDM is by blending UHMWPE with other polyethylene including High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) and Polyethylene-Glycol (PEG) which provide adequate mechanical properties for biomedical application along with the improvement in extrudability. It was demonstrated that the inclusion of 60% HDPE fraction has improved the flowability of UHMWPE in MFI test and showing adequate thermal stability in TGA
