Integrated Computational Materials Engineering (ICME) is a tool for model-based virtual product and process engineering. Furthermore, ICME supports the generation of material and process related data required for digital twins. Therefore, ICME is an enabler of the Internet of Production. ICME combines computational models throughout process chains and links model scales from atomistic to component level. It focuses on the microstructure as the carrier of the properti es of materials. It is the aim of the application of ICME to reduce coast and time for advanced engineering problems through the early analyses of virtual models and therefore allow agile responses to changing market demands. The contribution introduces essential concepts of scale coupling and microstructure modelling. Constitutive elements of ICME such as virtual labs and the representative volume element (RVE) are introduced and illustrated by means of examples from industry and the scientific environment. Furthermorde, the impact on industrial practice in the context of ICME is sketched and the organizational aspects with respect to the involved corporate functions such as product-, material-, process engineering and IT are discussed. From an industrial point of view, it will be elucid ated how ICME will contribute to the reduction of engineering costs and required time. Concluding, the contribution discusses the assignment of ICME into the context of the Internet of Production and therefore the overall topic of the Aachener Machine Tool Colloquium
