STUDY ON THE AGE AT FIRST CALVING AND THE LONGEVITY OF BEEF COWS

The age at fi rst calving, the life span and the longevity of cows have great importance in cattle husbandry, especially in beef cow husbandry, because the cost of raising weaned calves depends largely on how early cows calve and how long they remain in production. If cows are productive extendedly and raise more progeny, specifi c costs of raising per calf decrease proportionally. Consideration of life span and, specifi cally, longevity plays an important role in practical breeding. The present work summarizes the results of the studie conducted in this fi eld. A database of altogether 2115 cows belonging to fi ve breeds (Hungarian Grey, Hereford, Aberdeen Angus, Limousin and Charolais) and two crossbred genotypes (Simmental x Hereford F1, Simmental x Limousin F1) born between 1977-1992 was evaluated. Age at fi rst calving (AFC), age at culling (ACU), moreover longevity (LONG) were studied. Ms Excel and SPSS for Windows 11.0 were used for statistical analyses. The mean values of AFC, ACU and LONG obtained were 2.71, 9.47 and 6.77 year, respectively. Breed/genotypes and birth year had signifi cant infl uence (P<0,01) on each evaluated trait, whereas birth month statistically affected only the AFC

Determining clast and magnetic fabric of a subaqueous lahar deposit as a tool for reconstructing paleoflow directions and emplacement processes.

Flow-related fabric of a subaqueously emplaced laharic deposit (Rám Hill Pumiceous Sandstone) were investigated around the middle Miocene Keserűs Hill lava dome group (northern Hungary). A twofold methodology, consisting of image analyis on rock surfaces and low-field anisotropy of magnetic susceptibility (AMS), was used to determine large-scale flow paths and emplacement processes. In addition, comparative measurements of magnetic anisotropy were performed by using an MFK1-FA multifunction kappabridge with 3D rotator (Studynka et al. 2014) at Agico, Inc. (Brno, Czech Republic). The results indicate a very good agreement between the azimuths of a-axis of the most elongated clasts from image analysis and the orientation of K1 susceptibilities from the measurements of the two laboratories. This agreement of fabric direction obtained by the two different methods allows to draw the following implications: 1) Fabric direction-derived large-scale flow paths show a near-radial pattern around the proposed eruption centre (Karátson et al. 2007) of the Keserűs Hill lava dome group (Fig. 1). Thus, our new data on paleoflow directions quantitatively confirm the former, one central vent-dominated volcano-structural reconstruction which was proposed on the basis of facies analysis. 2) Aggradation from multiple lahar pulses is presumable due to the vertical variation of shear direction within the exposures

On the R\'enyi-Ulam Game with Restricted Size Queries

We investigate the following version of the well-known R\'enyi-Ulam game. Two players - the Questioner and the Responder - play against each other. The Responder thinks of a number from the set {1,,n}\{1,\ldots,n\}, and the Questioner has to find this number. To do this, he can ask whether a chosen set of at most kk elements contains the thought number. The Responder answers with YES or NO immediately, but during the game, he may lie at most \ell times. The minimum number of queries needed for the Questioner to surely find the unknown element is denoted by RUk(n)RU_\ell^k(n). First, we develop a highly effective tool that we call Convexity Lemma. By using this lemma, we give a general lower bound of RUk(n)RU_\ell^k(n) and an upper bound which differs from the lower one by at most 2+12\ell+1. We also give its exact value when nn is sufficiently large compared to kk. With these, we managed to improve and generalize the results obtained by Meng, Lin, and Yang in a 2013 paper about the case =1\ell=1

A szomszédos országokból Magyarországra áttelepült népesség demográfiai és gazdasági hatásai, területi mintázata

In Western European countries, immigrants are generally in a worse position than local people. This is due to their position in society, cultural-linguistic and other differences compared to the majority society. Their qualifications and schooling differ from the host population, and the majority society is often discriminatory against them. In contrast, our research shows that Hungarian immigrants coming from outside the Hungarian borders are more qualified and educated than the Hungarian population, so they have better chances in the Hungarian labor market. This is also backed by the fact that the age structure, cultural traditions, mother tongue etc. of the immigrant population are the same as the host population so they can easily fit into society and local communities. Based on these, it can be stated that the immigrant Hungarian population coming from the neighboring countries is a major economic resource for Hungary

Operational Methods for Charging of Electric Vehicles

The increasing number of electric vehicles induces a new relationship between the electric vehicles, transportation network and electric network. The deployment of the charging infrastructure is a prerequisite of the widespread of electric vehicles. Furthermore, the charging process and energy management have a significant influence on the operation of both the transportation and electric networks. Therefore, we have elaborated novel operational methods that support the deployment of charging infrastructure for electric cars and buses operating in public bus service, and the energy management. Weighted sum-models were developed to assess candidate sites for public charging stations. The mathematical model of public bus services was elaborated that supports the optimization of static charging infrastructure at bus stops and terminals without schedule adjustments. The flexibility and predictability of charging sessions were identified as the main differences between charging infrastructure deployment for cars and buses. Furthermore, the flows of energy, information and value have been revealed among the components of charging with a focus on commercial locations, which is the basis of energy flow optimization on the smart grid
