    Dietary Diversity Was Positively Associated with Psychological Resilience among Elders: A Population-Based Study

    The association between dietary diversity (DD) and psychological resilience among older people is an underdeveloped area of research. This cross-sectional study explored the associations of DD with psychological resilience among 8571 community-based elderly individuals. The intake frequencies of food groups were collected, and dietary diversity was assessed based on the mean DD score. Psychological resilience was assessed using a simplified resilience score (SRS). Data were analyzed using multiple linear regression and logistic regression models. Poor DD was significantly associated with psychological resilience, with a β (95% CI) of −0.94 (−1.07, −0.81) for the SRS (p \u3c 0.01) and an odds ratio (95% CI) of 1.83 (1.66, 2.01) for low SRS status. The interaction effects of age with DD were observed for the SRS (p \u3c 0.001) and low SRS status (p \u3c 0.001). Based on separate analyses by age group, the association of a low SRS with poor DD was more prominent in the younger elderly than the oldest old, with OR (95% CI) 2.32 (1.96, 2.74) and 1.61 (1.43, 1.82), respectively. Compared with younger participants with good DD, the risk of a low SRS was greater for younger participants with poor DD, the oldest old with good DD, and the oldest old with poor DD, with OR (95% CI) 2.39 (2.02, 2.81), 1.28 (1.09, 1.51), and 2.03 (1.72, 2.39), respectively. The greatest contribution to DD was from a high consumption of vegetables, fruits, and nuts. Our study suggested that poor DD was associated with a low psychological resilience among the Chinese elderly, especially the younger elderly. These findings suggest that augmentation of DD might promote psychological resilience

    Higher dietary diversity scores and protein-rich food consumption were associated with lower risk of all-cause mortality in the oldest old

    Background & aims: Dietary diversity is widely advocated in national and international recommendations although whether the beneficial effects on survival or longevity still apply in the final phase of the lifespan remains understudied. We aimed to prospectively examine the association of dietary diversity, food items with all-cause mortality among the oldest old (80+) and determine whether dietary diversity recommendations were appropriate for this population. Methods: The study included 28,790 participants aged 80+ (9957 octogenarians, 9925 nonagenarians, and 8908 centenarians). A baseline dietary diversity score (DDS) was constructed based on nine food items of a food frequency questionnaire. Cox models with penalized splines evaluated non-linear associations of DDS as continuous variable with mortality to identify cut-offs of DDS. Results: We documented 23,503 deaths during 96,739 person-years of follow-up. Each one unit increase in DDS was associated with a 9% lower risk of mortality (adjusted hazard ratio (HR): 0.91; 95% confidential interval (CI): 0.90–0.92). Compared to participants whose DDS less than 2 scores, those with a DDS of 2, 3, 4, 5, and higher than 6 scores had a lower mortality risk, the HRs were 0.86 (0.82–0.89), 0.78 (0.75–0.81), 0.69 (0.66–0.72), 0.65 (0.62–0.68), and 0.56 (0.53–0.58) respectively, and a significant trend emerged (p \u3c 0.001). Protein-rich food items were associated with prominent beneficial effects on mortality including meat (HR and 95% CI for high vs low frequency: 0.70 (0.68–0.72)), fish and sea food (HR, 0.74 (0.72–0.77)), egg (HR, 0.75 (0.73–0.77)), and bean (HR, 0.80 (0.78–0.82)). Conclusions: Even after the age of 80, the DDS tool may offer a simple and straightforward mean of identifying and screening individuals at high risk for mortality. Recommendation of dietary diversity, especially consumption of protein-rich food, may be advocated to reduce mortality risk and promote longevity in the oldest old

    Long-term exposure to PM\u3csub\u3e2.5\u3c/sub\u3e and incidence of disability in activities of daily living among oldest old

    Currently the Chinese government has adopted World Health Organization interim target-1 values as the national ambient air quality standards values. However, the population-based evidence was insufficient, especially for the oldest old (aged 80+). We evaluated the association of fine particulate matters (PM2.5) exposure and incidence of disability in activities of daily living (ADL) in 15 453 oldest old in 886 counties/cities in China from 2002 to 2014 using Cox model with penalized splines and competing risk models to evaluate the linear or non-linear association. After adjusting for potential confounders, a J-shaped association existed between PM2.5 exposure with a threshold concentration of 33 μg/m3, and incident disability in ADL. Above this threshold, the risk magnitude significantly increased with increase of PM2.5 concentrations; compared to 33 μg/m3, the hazard ratio ranged from 1.03 (1.00–1.06) at 40 μg/m3 to 2.25 (1.54–3.29) at 110 μg/m3. The risk magnitude was not significantly changed below this threshold. Each 10 μg/m3 increase in PM2.5 exposure corresponded to a 7.7% increase in the risk of disability in ADL (hazard ratio 1.077, 95% CI 1.051–1.104). Men, smokers, and participants with cognitive impairment might be more vulnerable to PM2.5 exposure. The study provided limited population-based evidence for the oldest old and detected a threshold of 33 μg/m3, and supported that reduction to current World Health Organization interim target-1value (35 μg/m3) and Chinese national ambient air quality standards (35 μg/m3) or lower may be associated with lower risk of disability in ADL

    Integrated aquaculture contributes to the transfer of mcr-1 between animals and humans via the aquaculture supply chain

    Background Since its discovery in 2015, the mobile colistin resistance gene mcr-1 has been reported in bacteria from > 50 countries. Although aquaculture-associated bacteria may act as a significant reservoir for colistin resistance, systematic investigations of mcr-1 in the aquaculture supply chain are scarce. Objectives We investigated the presence of colistin resistance determinants in the aquaculture supply chain in south China and determined their characteristics and relationships. Methods A total of 250 samples were collected from a duck-fish integrated fishery, slaughter house, and market in Guangdong Province, China, in July 2017. Colistin-resistant bacteria were isolated on colistin-supplemented CHROMagar Orientation plates, and the species were identified by matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time-of-flight assay. The presence of mcr genes was confirmed by polymerase chain reaction analysis. We examined the minimum inhibitory concentrations (MICs) of 16 antimicrobial agents against the isolates using agar diffusion and broth microdilution methods. Whole-genome sequencing (WGS) was used to explore the molecular characteristics and relationships of mcr-1-positive Escherichia coli (MCRPEC). Results Overall, 143 (57.2%) colistin-resistant bacteria were isolated, of which, 56 (22.4%, including 54 Escherichia coli and two Klebsiella pneumoniae) and four Aeromonas species were positive for mcr-1 and mcr-3, respectively. The animal-derived MCRPEC were significantly more prevalent in integrated fishery samples (40.0%) than those in market (4.8%, P 90%) but were susceptible to carbapenems and tigecycline. WGS analysis suggested that mcr-1 was mainly contained on plasmids, including IncHI2 (29.6%), IncI2 (27.8%), IncX4 (14.8%), and IncP (11.1%). Genomic analysis suggested mcr-1 transmission via the aquatic food chain. Conclusions MCRPEC were highly prevalent in the aquaculture supply chain, with the isolates showing resistance to most antibiotics. The data suggested mcr-1 could be transferred to humans via the aquatic food chain. Taking the “One Health” perspective, aquaculture should be incorporated into systematic surveillance programs with animal, human, and environmental monitoring

    Object Perceptibility Prediction for Transmission Load Reduction in Vehicle-Infrastructure Cooperative Perception

    Vehicle-infrastructure cooperative perception is an ingenious way to eliminate environmental perception blind areas of connected and autonomous vehicles (CAVs). However, if the infrastructure transmits all environmental information to the nearby CAVs, the transmission load is so heavy that it causes a waste of network resources, such as time and bandwidth, because parts of the information are redundant for the CAVs. It is an efficient manner for the infrastructure to merely transmit the information about objects which cannot be perceived by the CAVs. Therefore, the infrastructure needs to predict whether an object is perceptible for a CAV. In this paper, a machine-leaning-based model is established to settle this problem, and a data filter is also designed to enhance the prediction accuracy in various scenarios. Based on the proposed model, the infrastructure transmits the environmental information selectively, which significantly reduces the transmission load. The experiments prove that the prediction accuracy of the model achieves up to 95%, and the transmission load is reduced by 55%

    Dietary Factors of blaNDM Carriage in Health Community Population: A Cross-Sectional Study

    Aim: There is an ongoing debate as to what extent antimicrobial resistance (AMR) can be transmitted from dietary to humans via the consumption of food products. We investigated this association between dietary and global spreading carbapenem-resistant gene blaNDM Methods: We did a cross-sectional study to assess the risk factors for carrier of blaNDM in health community. Healthy adults were recruited from the residents attending Community Healthcare Service in Shenzhen City (Guangdong Province, China), through 1February 2018 to 31December 2019, and 718 pre-participants were included in this study. Questionnaire were obtained and the qualitative food frequency questionnaire (Q-FFQ) were used to assess dietary intake. qPCR was applied to confirm the carrier of blaNDM in participants’fecal samples. Multivariable logistic regression was used to estimate the odds ratio (OR) and 95% confidence interval (95% CI) of each outcome according to each dietary factor before and after prosperity score matching (PSM). Results: we showed that a high intake of coarse grain (OR 1.003; 95% CI 1.001–1.005, p < 0.01) and root and tuber crops (OR 1.003; 95% CI 1.001–1.004, p < 0.05) were independent risk factor for blaNDM carrier in health communities, suggesting a possible transfer of AMRbetweendietary andhumans. Surprisingly, we also showed an association between a higher intake of poultry as a protective, which may be explained by the beneficial effects on the gut microbiota. Conclusion: Dietary factors such as intake of coarse grain, root and tuber crops and poultry were associated with blaNDM carrier in health communities. The influence of dietary factorson blaNDM carrier in the present study provides insights for the tangible dietary advice with guidelines to the routine of people with the risk of blaNDM carrier. This demonstrates the role of dietary intake in the prevention of blaNDM carrier, since prevention is the best way to control modifiable risk factors. A lower carrier rate of blaNDM is helpful to reduce the possibility of transmission and pathogenicity. Further studies on food, microbiota and antimicrobial resistance are necessary to confirm this possible association and unravel underlying mechanisms

Due to bandwidth bottleneck of centralized model, the P2P-like distribution schemes are recently adopted. However, most of them just focus on the transmission speed, but ignore the impact on network bandwidth, especially for cloud data centers which are connected by Wide Area Network(WAN). In this paper, we propose a bridgehead-employed VM image distribution system(BIDS), which aims to minimize the repetitive data flows of WAN while speeding up the image distribution. In BIDS, we also design a version based image sharing mechanism, which tries to make a balance between efficiency and management complexity. Besides, we implement a Remote Management Console(RMC). The final evaluation shows that BIDS is of high efficient and low overhead
