Microwave Ionization of an Atomic Electron Wave Packet
A short microwave pulse is used to ionize a lithium Rydberg wave packet launched from the core at a well-defined phase of the field. We observe a strong dependence on the relative phase between the motion of the wave packet and the oscillations of the field. This phase dependent ionization is also studied as a function of the relative frequency. Our experimental observations are in good qualitative agreement with a one-dimensional classical model of wave packet ionization
XAX: a multi-ton, multi-target detection system for dark matter, double beta decay and pp solar neutrinos
A multi-target detection system XAX, comprising concentric 10 ton targets of
136Xe and 129/131Xe, together with a geometrically similar or larger target of
liquid Ar, is described. Each is configured as a two-phase
scintillation/ionization TPC detector, enhanced by a full 4pi array of
ultra-low radioactivity Quartz Photon Intensifying Detectors (QUPIDs) replacing
the conventional photomultipliers for detection of scintillation light. It is
shown that background levels in XAX can be reduced to the level required for
dark matter particle (WIMP) mass measurement at a 10^-10 pb WIMP-nucleon cross
section, with single-event sensitivity below 10^-11 pb. The use of multiple
target elements allows for confirmation of the A^2 dependence of a coherent
cross section, and the different Xe isotopes provide information on the
spin-dependence of the dark matter interaction. The event rates observed by Xe
and Ar would modulate annually with opposite phases from each other for WIMP
mass >~100 GeV/c^2. The large target mass of 136Xe and high degree of
background reduction allow neutrinoless double beta decay to be observed with
lifetimes of 10^27-10^28 years, corresponding to the Majorana neutrino mass
range 0.01-0.1 eV, the most likely range from observed neutrino mass
differences. The use of a 136Xe-depleted 129/131Xe target will also allow
measurement of the pp solar neutrino spectrum to a precision of 1-2%.Comment: 16 pages with 17 figure
Stability of Coalescence Hidden variable Fractal Interpolation Surfaces
In the present paper, the stability of Coalescence Hidden variable Fractal
Interpolation Surfaces(CHFIS) is established. The estimates on error in
approximation of the data generating function by CHFIS are found when there is
a perturbation in independent, dependent and hidden variables. It is proved
that any small perturbation in any of the variables of generalized
interpolation data results in only small perturbation of CHFIS. Our results are
likely to be useful in investigations of texture of surfaces arising from the
simulation of surfaces of rocks, sea surfaces, clouds and similar natural
objects wherein the generating function depends on more than one variable
Yang's gravitational theory
Yang's pure space equations (C.N. Yang, Phys. Rev. Lett. v.33, p.445 (1974))
generalize Einstein's gravitational equations, while coming from gauge theory.
We study these equations from a number of vantage points: summarizing the work
done previously, comparing them with the Einstein equations and investigating
their properties. In particular, the initial value problem is discussed and a
number of results are presented for these equations with common energy-momentum
tensors.Comment: 28 pages, to appear in Gen. Rel. Gra
Extended Gari-Krumpelmann model fits to nucleon electromagnetic form factors
Nucleon electromagnetic form factor data (including recent data) is fitted
with models that respect the confinement and asymptotic freedom properties of
QCD. Gari-Krumpelmann (GK) type models, which include the major vector meson
pole contributions and at high momentum transfer conform to the predictions of
perturbative QCD, are combined with Hohler-Pietarinen (HP) models, which also
include the width of the rho meson and the addition of higher mass vector meson
exchanges, but do not evolve into the explicit form of PQCD at high momentum
transfer. Different parameterizations of the GK model's hadronic form factors,
the effect of including the width of the rho meson and the addition of the next
(in mass) isospin 1 vector meson are considered. The quality of fit and the
consistency of the parameters select three of the combined HP/GK type models.
Projections are made to the higher momentum transfers which are relevant to
electron-deuteron experiments. The projections vary little for the preferred
models, removing much of the ambiguity in electron-nucleus scattering
predictions.Comment: 18pp, 7 figures, using RevTeX with BoxedEPS macros; 1 new figure,

Spanning trees on the Sierpinski gasket
We obtain the numbers of spanning trees on the Sierpinski gasket
with dimension equal to two, three and four. The general expression for the
number of spanning trees on with arbitrary is conjectured. The
numbers of spanning trees on the generalized Sierpinski gasket
with and are also obtained.Comment: 20 pages, 8 figures, 1 tabl
Effect of recent R_p and R_n measurements on extended Gari-Krumpelmann model fits to nucleon electromagnetic form factors
The Gari-Krumpelmann (GK) models of nucleon electromagnetic form factors, in
which the rho, omega, and phi vector meson pole contributions evolve at high
momentum transfer to conform to the predictions of perturbative QCD (pQCD), was
recently extended to include the width of the rho meson by substituting the
result of dispersion relations for the pole and the addition of rho' (1450)
isovector vector meson pole. This extended model was shown to produce a good
overall fit to all the available nucleon electromagnetic form factor (emff)
data. Since then new polarization data shows that the electric to magnetic
ratios R_p and R_n obtained are not consistent with the older G_{Ep} and G_{En}
data in their range of momentum transfer. The model is further extended to
include the omega' (1419) isoscalar vector meson pole. It is found that while
this GKex cannot simultaneously fit the new R_p and the old G_{En} data, it can
fit the new R_p and R_n well simultaneously. An excellent fit to all the
remaining data is obtained when the inconsistent G_{Ep} and G_{En} is omitted.
The model predictions are shown up to momentum transfer squared, Q^2, of 8
GeV^2/c^2.Comment: 14 pages, 8 figures, using RevTeX4; email correspondence to

Process Evaluation of the Tier 1 Program (Secondary 1 Curriculum) of the Project P.A.T.H.S.: Findings Based on the Full Implementation Phase
To understand the implementation quality of the Tier 1 Program (Secondary 1 Curriculum) of the Project P.A.T.H.S. (Positive Adolescent Training through Holistic Social Programmes), observers carried out process evaluation in the form of systematic observations of 22 units in 14 randomly selected schools. Results showed that the overall level of program adherence was generally high (range: 45–100%, with an average of 86.3%). High implementation quality of the program in the areas of student interest, student participation and involvement, classroom control, use of interactive delivery method, use of strategies to enhance student motivation, use of positive and supportive feedbacks, instructors’ familiarity with the students, degree of achievement of the objectives, time management, lesson preparation, overall implementation quality, and success of implementation was also found. The present findings are consistent with those observations based on the experimental implementation phase, suggesting that the implementation quality of the Tier 1 Program (Secondary 1 Curriculum) was generally high
