Neuroimmune perspectives in sepsis
Physiologic anti-inflammatory mechanisms are selected by evolution to control the immune system and to prevent infectious and inflammatory disorders. Central-acting α2-agonists attenuate systemic inflammation and improve survival in experimental sepsis. This anti-inflammatory and therapeutic mechanism of central sympatholytics appears to be mediated by an unexpected vagomimetic potential of the α2-agonists to activate the vagus nerve. Recent studies, however, rule out a cholinergic anti-inflammatory mechanism based on a direct cholinergic interaction between the vagus nerve and the immune system. Since the nervous system is the principal regulator of the immune system, physiologic studies understanding the neuroimmune connections can provide major advantages to design novel therapeutic strategies for sepsis
Another look at State responsibility in money laundering and the massive and habitual collection of money from the public
A critical reflection is exposed with regards to the responsibility of the Colombian State in the surveillance, control and action that it must carry out, from the administrative field, in relation to the practices of money laundering and massive and habitual collection of money from the perspective of the omission and legitimate expectation
principal.Laboratorio de Estudios en Comunicación (LADECOM)Grupo de Investigación en Estructura, Historia y Contenidos de la Comunicación (GREHCCO) HUM61
Polarization and Aharonov-Bohm oscillations in quantum-ring magnetoexcitons
We study interaction and radial polarization effects on the the absorption
spectrum of neutral bound magnetoexcitons confined in quantum-ring structures.
We show that the size and orientation of the exciton's dipole moment, as well
as the interaction screening, play important roles in the Aharonov-Bohm
oscillations. In particular, the excitonic absorption peaks display A-B
oscillations both in position and amplitude for weak electron-hole interaction
and large radial polarization. The presence of impurity scattering induces
anticrossings in the exciton spectrum, leading to a modulation in the
absorption strength. These properties could be used in experimental
investigations of the effect in semiconductor quantum-ring structures.Comment: Updated version, 6 pages, 4 figures. To appear in Phys. Rev.
The mass media university produced by the Universities, are instruments of
support to revalue the paper of the discriminated groups, in this case the communities
indigenous to Mexico. In newpapers means information relative to they, his presence is
reducing in articles related to violence or indigenous census. From the journalistic
exercise there is evaluated the work of the institutional newspaper of the University of
Guadalajara, to reflect in the pages The gazette of the University of Guadalajara the
mission of the Institution: respect of the cultural diversity. Likewise, to describe the
forms of contribution of the newspaper in the diffusion of the culture and history
Functional typological approach to Shawi indeterminate pronouns
This study describes the formation of indeterminate pronouns in Shawi, which is a class of proforms that can have interrogative, indefinite, and free relative senses. These interpretations are only distinguished through a class of clitics, e.g. ma’=ta (what, relative what), ma’=sha (something), ma=nta (nothing). The first of these can be further modified to ma’ta=ka (rhetorical what) and ma’=tana (whatever). As in other languages, this class of proforms can be categorized into a paradigm in which each member represents a general concept like person (who), thing (what), place (where), time (when), manner (how), etc. Comparing these forms reveals further internal structure. As such, Shawi indeterminate pronouns are analyzed and the clitics that can modify their interpretation are discussed
Tunable pseudogap Kondo effect and quantum phase transitions in Aharonov-Bohm interferometers
We study two quantum dots embedded in the arms of an Aharonov-Bohm ring
threaded by a magnetic flux. The system can be described by an effective
one-impurity Anderson model with an energy- and flux-dependent density of
states. For specific values of the flux, this density of states vanishes at the
Fermi energy, yielding a controlled realization of the pseudogap Kondo effect.
The conductance and transmission phase shifts reflect a nontrivial interplay
between wave interference and interactions, providing clear signatures of
quantum phase transitions between Kondo and non-Kondo ground states.Comment: Published versio
Novel Insights for Systemic Inflammation in Sepsis and Hemorrhage
The inflammatory responses in sepsis and hemorrhage remain a major cause of death. Clinically, it is generally accepted that shock in sepsis or hemorrhage differs in its mechanisms. However, the recognition of inflammatory cytokines as a common lethal pathway has become consent. Proinflammatory cytokines such as tumor necrosis factor (TNF) or high-mobility group box1 (HMGB1) are fanatically released and cause lethal multiorgan dysfunction. Inhibition of these cytokines can prevent the inflammatory responses and organ damage. In seeking potential anti-inflammatory strategies, we reported that ethyl pyruvate and alpha7 nicotinic acetylcholine receptor (alpha7nAChR) agonists effectively restrained cytokine production to provide therapeutic benefits in both experimental sepsis and hemorrhage. Here, we review the inflammatory responses and the anti-inflammatory strategies in experimental models of sepsis and hemorrhage, as they may have a consistent inflammatory pathway in spite of their different pathophysiological processes
