An evaluation of a job seeking skills programme for prison inmates : a thesis presented in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Arts in psychology at Massey University
This research is concerned with the evaluation of a Job Seeking Skills (JSS) programme at Manawatu Prison. Three groups of four JSS participants responded to questionnaire measures of self-esteem, social anxiety and fear of negative evaluation at pretest, posttest and at a six week follow-up. Self-esteem increased but no change occurred on measures of social anxiety and fear of negative evaluation. Subjects also took part in videotaped simulated job interviews at pretest and posttest. Subjects decreased their response latency, but no significant changes were noted on other behavioural measures. Despite this, subjects were rated as significantly more socially skilled and more employable at their posttest interviews. Improvements were also noted on ratings of appearance and question answering. Although subjects reported a decrease in anxiety in interview, ratings of anxiety by external raters did not indicate significant improvement
MacArthur Foundation's Initiative to Promote Midwifery in Mexico, Complete Baseline Report
This baseline report is a first step in the evaluation of the MacArthur Foundation's initiative to improve maternal and reproductive health in Mexico by helping to institutionalize professional midwifery. The foundation's strategy concentrates on contributing to lasting, measurable, and targeted changes in the maternal and reproductive health landscape of Mexico by capitalizing on and strengthening momentum around building a new cadre of professional midwives, in order to reach a tipping point that will allow for improved quality of care and, eventually, better maternal health outcomes. The purpose of the baseline evaluation was to understand the starting points for the initiative with respect to:Midwifery and maternal health care in MexicoTraining in professional midwiferyDemand for and understanding of professional midwiferyThe legal and policy framewor
Modeling Emission from the First Explosions: Pitfalls and Problems
Observations of the explosions of Population III (Pop III) stars have the
potential to teach us much about the formation and evolution of these
zero-metallicity objects. To realize this potential, we must tie observed
emission to an explosion model, which requires accurate light curve and spectra
calculations. Here, we discuss many of the pitfalls and problems involved in
such models, presenting some preliminary results from radiation-hydrodynamics
simulations.Comment: 6 pages, 3 figures, proceedings of 'The First Stars and Galaxies:

This article focuses on the role of cultural mediation of symbolic and narrative resources in the resilience process which lies at the heart of the migration experience, including forced migrations. It explains the emergence of “ life tales ” (dits de vie) and their development process through four examples : the life tale of the child as a strawberry ; the life tale of Kiroumi, the child from nowhere ; the life tale of the man with the snake bite ; the life tale of the profession and beauty, of the forces of continuity and discontinuity. Finally, it explores the passage from the use of life tales based on participant’s experience for the collective development of life tales within intercultural groups
