A Spectral Line Survey of Selected 3 mm Bands Toward Sagittarius B2(N-LMH) Using the NRAO 12 Meter Radio Telescope and the BIMA Array I. The Observational Data
We have initiated a spectral line survey, at a wavelength of 3 millimeters,
toward the hot molecular core Sagittarius B2(N-LMH). This is the first spectral
line survey of the Sgr B2(N) region utilizing data from both an interferometer
(BIMA Array) and a single-element radio telescope (NRAO 12 meter). In this
survey, covering 3.6 GHz in bandwidth, we detected 218 lines (97 identified
molecular transitions, 1 recombination line, and 120 unidentified transitions).
This yields a spectral line density (lines per 100 MHz) of 6.06, which is much
larger than any previous 3 mm line survey. We also present maps from the BIMA
Array that indicate that most highly saturated species (3 or more H atoms) are
products of grain chemistry or warm gas phase chemistry. Due to the nature of
this survey we are able to probe each spectral line on multiple spatial scales,
yielding information that could not be obtained by either instrument alone.Comment: 35 pages, 15 figures, to be published in The Astrophysical Journa
A Spectral Line Survey from 138.3 to 150.7 GHZ toward Orion-KL
We present the results of a spectral line survey from 138.3 to 150.7 GHz
toward Orion-KL. The observations were made using the 14 m radio telescope of
Taeduk Radio Astronomy Observatory. Typical system temperatures were between
500 and 700 K, with the sensitivity between K in units of .
A total of 149 line spectra are detected in this survey. Fifty lines have
been previously reported, however we find 99 new detections. Among these new
lines, 32 are `unidentified', while 67 are from molecular transitions with
known identifications. There is no detection of H or He recombination lines.
The identified spectra are from a total of 16 molecular species and their
isotopic variants. In the range from 138.3 to 150.7 GHz, the strongest spectral
line is the J=3-2 transition of CS molecule, followed by transitions of the
, , , and . Spectral lines from
the large organic molecules such as , , , and are prominent; with 80 % of the
identified lines arising from transitions of these molecules. The rotational
temperatures and column densities are derived using the standard rotation
diagram analysis for (), , and with and . These estimates are fairly comparable to the values for the

Suppression of mRNAs Encoding Tegument Tetraspanins from Schistosoma mansoni Results in Impaired Tegument Turnover
Schistosomes express a family of integral membrane proteins, called tetraspanins (TSPs), in the outer surface membranes of the tegument. Two of these tetraspanins, Sm-TSP-1 and Sm-TSP-2, confer protection as vaccines in mice, and individuals who are naturally resistant to S. mansoni infection mount a strong IgG response to Sm-TSP-2. To determine their functions in the tegument of S. mansoni we used RNA interference to silence expression of Sm-tsp-1 and Sm-tsp-2 mRNAs. Soaking of parasites in Sm-tsp dsRNAs resulted in 61% (pâ=â0.009) and 74% (pâ=â0.009) reductions in Sm-tsp-1 and Sm-tsp-2 transcription levels, respectively, in adult worms, and 67%â75% (pâ=â0.011) and 69%â89% (pâ=â0.004) reductions in Sm-tsp-1 and Sm-tsp-2 transcription levels, respectively, in schistosomula compared to worms treated with irrelevant control (luciferase) dsRNA. Ultrastructural morphology of adult worms treated in vitro with Sm-tsp-2 dsRNA displayed a distinctly vacuolated and thinner tegument compared with controls. Schistosomula exposed in vitro to Sm-tsp-2 dsRNA had a significantly thinner and more vacuolated tegument, and morphology consistent with a failure of tegumentary invaginations to close. Injection of mice with schistosomula that had been electroporated with Sm-tsp-1 and Sm-tsp-2 dsRNAs resulted in 61% (pâ=â0.005) and 83% (pâ=â0.002) reductions in the numbers of parasites recovered from the mesenteries four weeks later when compared to dsRNA-treated controls. These results imply that tetraspanins play important structural roles impacting tegument development, maturation or stability
Observational Results of a Multi-Telescope Campaign in Search of Interstellar Urea [(NH)CO]
In this paper, we present the results of an observational search for gas
phase urea [(NH)CO] observed towards the Sgr B2(N-LMH) region. We show
data covering urea transitions from 100 GHz to 250 GHz from five
different observational facilities: BIMA, CARMA, the NRAO 12 m telescope, the
IRAM 30 m telescope, and SEST. The results show that the features ascribed to
urea can be reproduced across the entire observed bandwidth and all facilities
by best fit column density, temperature, and source size parameters which vary
by less than a factor of 2 between observations merely by adjusting for
telescope-specific parameters. Interferometric observations show that the
emission arising from these transitions is cospatial and compact, consistent
with the derived source sizes and emission from a single species. Despite this
evidence, the spectral complexity, both of (NH)CO and of Sgr B2(N),
makes the definitive identification of this molecule challenging. We present
observational spectra, laboratory data, and models, and discuss our results in

WS-PGRADE/gUSE in European Projects
Besides core project partners, the SCI-BUS project also supported several external user communities in developing and setting up customized science gateways. The focus was on large communities typically represented by other European research projects. However, smaller local efforts with the potential of generalizing the solution to wider communities were also supported. This chapter gives an overview of support activities related to user communities external to the SCI-BUS project. A generic overview of such activities is provided followed by the detailed description of three gateways developed in collaboration with European projects: the agINFRA Science Gateway for Workflows for agricultural research, the VERCE Science Gateway for seismology, and the DRIHM Science Gateway for weather research and forecasting
The Arecibo Arp 220 Spectral Census I: Discovery of the Pre-Biotic Molecule Methanimine and New Cm-wavelength Transitions of Other Molecules
An on-going Arecibo line search between 1.1 and 10 GHz of the prototypical
starburst/megamaser galaxy, Arp 220, has revealed a spectrum rich in molecular
transitions. These include the ``pre-biotic'' molecules: methanimine
(CHNH) in emission, three direct l-type absorption lines of
HCN, and an absorption feature likely to be from either OH or formic
acid (HCOOH). In addition, we report the detection of two, possibly three,
transitions of 4-cm excited OH not previously detected in Arp~220
which are seen in absorption, and a possible absorption feature from the
6.668-GHz line of methanol. This marks the first distant extragalactic
detection of methanimine, a pre-biotic molecule. Also, if confirmed, the
possible methanol absorption line presented here would represent the first
extragalactic detection of methanol at a distance further than 10 Mpc. In
addition, the strong, previously undetected, cm-wave HCN direct
l-type lines will aid the study of dense molecular gas and active star-forming

On the mean value of the energy for resonant states
In this work we discuss possible definitions of the mean value of the energy
for a resonant (Gamow) state. The mathematical and physical aspects of the
formalism are reviewed. The concept of rigged Hilbert space is used as a
supportive tool in dealing with Gamow-resonances.Comment: 9 page
The neutron halo of He in a microscopic model
The two--neutron separation energy of He has been reproduced for the
first time in a realistic parameter--free microscopic multicluster model
comprising the and clusterizations, with cluster
breathing excitations included. The contribution of the channel is
substantial. A very thick (0.85 fm) neutron halo has been found in full

Resonance phenomena in ultracold dipole-dipole scattering
Elastic scattering resonances occurring in ultracold collisions of either
bosonic or fermionic polar molecules are investigated. The Born-Oppenheimer
adiabatic representation of the two-bodydynamics provides both a qualitative
classification scheme and a quantitative WKB quantization condition that
predicts several sequences of resonant states. It is found that the
near-threshold energy dependence of ultracold collision cross sections varies
significantly with the particle exchange symmetry, with bosonic systems showing
much smoother energy variations than their fermionic counterparts. Resonant
variations of the angular distributions in ultracold collisions are also
