Both account framing and duration framing treatments are introduced to alter subjects’ perceived control over an initial endowment. Postwar Financial Crises and Economic Recoveries in the United States

We reconsider the connection between financial crises and economic recoveries in the postwar United States. We proceed in two steps. First, we provide a chronology of financial crises in the United States. We make the case that the postwar period prior to 2007 should be characterized as featuring three periods of financial crisis: 1973−1975, 1982−1984, and 1988−1991. This implies a substantially different postwar chronology of financial crises from that advanced by Reinhart and Rogoff (2009a, 2009b). The second step in our analysis is to reexamine economic recoveries in the wake of financial crises with this revised chronology. We find that the regularity that recoveries are systematically slower in the aftermath of financial crises does not hold for the postwar United States. Historically, the pace of the expansion after recessions seems to reflect aggregate demand conditions

What happens on the Yukon River leaves genetic traces; analysis of eDNA samples from a thousand-mile canoe expedition

In the summer of 2022, I collected eDNA samples on a six-week self-supported expedition along the upper one thousand miles of the Yukon River. While traveling along the upper half of the river, I was able to take samples in many different ecosystems and from different classifications of tributaries that contribute to the main flow of the Yukon. The Yukon and some of the tributaries are known for having high sediment loads. My first five samples were focused on the headwaters of the main Yukon, and sampling upstream and downstream of the two dams supporting the community of Whitehorse. After this, I sampled at the confluences of major tributaries. The samples were then transported back to Fairbanks following the expedition. The fish DNA was extracted from the eDNA filters, and I have been doing the genetics since. Eventually, the samples will be processed utilizing metabarcoding techniques to determine which fish species were present at the various sample sites

As part of a federal study of the biology of stress and resilience, a comprehensive, structured stress-history interview (PSEI-NCPV) was administered to 307 participants recruited in Honolulu. A moderate correlation between childhood stress and current depression was found.
