Cultivando com mãos especiais

The objective of this work is to report the experience of students of the Programa de Educação Tutorial (PET) Agroecologia Rural Sustentável, from the Instituto Federal Catarinense (IFC) – Campus Rio do Sul, with students from the Associação de Pais e Amigos dos Excepcionais (APAE). Such an attempt was achieved by means of the implementation of a vegetable garden, using agroecological principles in the management of the soil and plants, focusing on healthy eating and preserving the  environment. The project started in 2015 at APAE in the municipality of Rio do Sul/SC and lasted for five years (from 2015 to 2019). The meetings were held twice a week, with two hours each, counting on an average participation of 15 students of various age groups and different psychomotor disabilities. During the conduction of the project, several activities were developed such as the construction of a vegetable garden, production of plants seedlings, planting and management of plants, apart from the harvest and consumption of food produced by the students of the project. During the course of the activities, the beneficial effect of the project on the development and growth of the people involved was evident, not specifically the students from APAE, but all participating students and professionals. In addition, the project allowed the experimentation of extension by students. Apart from that, it was possible to assure the insertion of IFC - Campus Rio do Sul in society as a protagonist of human development and social inclusion, corroborating the essence of the extension project.O objetivo deste trabalho é relatar a experiência dos estudantes do Programa de Educação Tutorial (PET) Agroecologia Rural Sustentável, do Instituto Federal Catarinense (IFC) – Campus Rio do Sul, com os alunos da Associação de Pais e Amigos dos Excepcionais (APAE). Tal intento foi concretizado a partir da implantação de uma horta, utilizando princípios agroecológicos no manejo do solo e das plantas, focando na alimentação saudável e na preservação do meio ambiente. O projeto teve início em 2015, nas dependências da APAE do município de Rio do Sul/ SC, com duração de cinco anos (2015 a 2019). Os encontros foram realizados duas vezes por semana, com duas horas cada, e participação média de 15 alunos de várias faixas etárias e diferentes deficiências psicomotoras. Durante a realização do projeto foram desenvolvidas diversas atividades como, por exemplo, construção da horta, produção de mudas, plantio e manejo de plantas, além da colheita e consumo dos alimentos produzidos pelos alunos do projeto. No decorrer das atividades, ficou evidente o efeito benéfico do projeto no desenvolvimento e crescimento das pessoas envolvidas, não somente dos alunos da APAE, mas de todos os estudantes e profissionais participantes. Além disso, o projeto permitiu a experimentação da extensão pelos estudantes e a inserção do IFC – Campus Rio do Sul na sociedade como protagonistas do desenvolvimento e da inclusão social, corroborando a essência do projeto de extensão
