Cycle-to-cycle variation of the combustion process in a diesel engine powered by different fuels

We have studied the fluctuations in mean indicated pressure (MIP) in a diesel engine powered by different fuels. Three alternative fuels and the regular diesel oil (RD) were tested. The alternative fuels are: (1) mixture of fatty acid methyl esters (FAME) and anhydrous ethanol (ET), (2) mixture of FAME and ethyl tertiary-butyl ether (ETBE), and (3) mixture of RD and ETBE. Using statistical and wavelet analyses, we investigated the cycle-to-cycle MIP variations for each fuel, at three engine speeds of 1200, 1600 and 2000 rpm. The results for the alternative fuels were compared with those for RD. At all three speeds, the MIP variations for the alternative fuels were found to exhibit strong periodicities of 64-256 cycles, and these periodicities persist over many engine cycles, whereas shorter-term periodicities at 2-32 cycles appeared to be intermittent. In the case of RD, the MIP variations with longer periodicities appeared only at the highest engine speed but intermittent fluctuations of 2-32 cycles are present at all three speeds. Among the four fuels considered, the MIP variations for the RD were found to be closest to the Gaussian white noise

The impact of the elevator guides contamination on the braking process delay for selected progressive gears

The authors’ tests results on the impact of the guiding system (the guides) contamination in the friction lift on the delay of progressive gears braking process are presented in this article. The tests were conducted using a free fall method and a test bench built for that purpose. In order to render all working conditions the guiding system of tested gears was lubricated with the most commonly used lubricating agents. Analysis of influence of spring stiffness of delivery valves of injection pumps on chosen parameters of the combustion process in diesel engine

W artykule przedstawiono wyniki badań polegających na indykowaniu silnika 4C90 w warunkach nieustalonych. Nieustalone warunki pracy modelowano poprzez swobodne rozpędzanie silnika spowodowane skokową zmianą położenia elementu sterującego dawką paliwa. Przeanalizowano wpływ sztywności sprężyn zaworów tłocznych pompy wtryskowej na proces spalania i wtrysku zachodzący w warunkach nieustalonej pracy silnika o zapłonie samoczynnym. Wyznaczono nastepujące parametry procesu spalania i wtrysku: p[i] - średnie ciśnienie indykowane, p[cmax] - maksymalne ciśnienie spalania , (dp/d[alfa])[max] - maksymalna prędkość narastania ciśnienia, [alfa][ps] - kąt wystąpienia początku spalania, [alfa][max] - kąt wystąpienia maksimum ciśnienia oraz przebieg ciśnienia paliwa przed wtryskiwaczem.Results of the 4C90 diesel engine indication in transient conditions have been presented in this paper. Transient work conditions were modelled by free running engine acceleration caused by changes of injection pump control lever position. The influence of spring stiffness of delivery valves of injection pumps on the combustion process were analysed. The following parameters were analysed: p[i] - mean indicated pressure, p[cmax] - maximum pressure, 9dp/d[alpha])[max] - maximum rate of pressure rise, [alpha][ps] -burning start angle, [alpha][max] - maximum pressure angle and a course of pressure before the injector

Impact of diethyl ether on physicochemical properties of rape oil

Artykuł prezentuje wyniki badań wybranych parametrów fizykochemicznych mieszanin oleju rzepakowego i DEE. W szczególności testowano następujące parametry mieszanin: lepkość kinematyczna, gęstość, smarność, wartość opałowa, temperatura blokowania zimnego filtra oraz temperaturę zapłonu. Badania prowadzono w znormalizowanych warunkach dla oleju rzepakowego zawierającego objętościowo: 10, 20, 30 i 40% DEE. Otrzymane wyniki wskazują, że DEE dodawany do oleju rzepakowego poprawia jakość mieszaniny jako paliwa dla silników o zapłonie samoczynnym.The paper presents research results of selected physicochemical properties of DEE-rape oil blends. In particular such properties as: viscosity, density, lubricity, heating value, cold filter plugging point as well as flash point of all tested fuel blends were examined. The tests were carried out in normalized conditions for rape oil containing 10, 20, 30 and 40% by volume of DEE. The results obtained suggest that DEE added to rape oil improve the quality of mixture as a fuel for diesel engine
