On local boundary CFT and non-local CFT on the boundary
The holographic relation between local boundary conformal quantum field
theories (BCFT) and their non-local boundary restrictions is reviewed, and
non-vacuum BCFT's, whose existence was conjectured previously, are constructed.Comment: 16 pages. Contribution to "Rigorous Quantum Field Theory", Symposium

GEANT4 for breast dosimetry: parameters optimization study
Mean glandular dose (MGD) is the main dosimetric quantity in mammography. MGD evaluation is obtained by multiplying the entrance skin air kerma (ESAK) by normalized glandular dose (DgN) coefficients. While ESAK is an empirical quantity, DgN coefficients can only be estimated with Monte Carlo (MC) methods. Thus, a MC parameters benchmark is needed for effectively evaluating DgN coefficients. GEANT4 is a MC toolkit suitable for medical purposes that offers to the users several computational choices. In this work we investigate the GEANT4 performances testing the main PhysicsLists for medical applications. Four electromagnetic PhysicsLists were implemented: the linear attenuation coefficients were calculated for breast glandularity 0%, 50%, 100% in the energetic range 8-50 keV and DgN coefficients were evaluated. The results were compared with published data. Fit equations for the estimation of the G-factor parameter, introduced by the literature for converting the dose delivered in the heterogeneous medium to that in the glandular tissue, are proposed and the application of this parameter interaction-by-interaction or retrospectively is discussed. G4EmLivermorePhysicsList shows the best agreement for the linear attenuation coefficients both with theoretical values and published data. Moreover, excellent correlation factor ([Formula: see text]) is found for the DgN coefficients with the literature. The final goal of this study is to identify, for the first time, a benchmark of parameters that could be useful for future breast dosimetry studies with GEANT4
Astrophysics in S.Co.P.E
S.Co.P.E. is one of the four projects funded by the Italian Government in
order to provide Southern Italy with a distributed computing infrastructure for
fundamental science. Beside being aimed at building the infrastructure,
S.Co.P.E. is also actively pursuing research in several areas among which
astrophysics and observational cosmology. We shortly summarize the most
significant results obtained in the first two years of the project and related
to the development of middleware and Data Mining tools for the Virtual
Observatory
Representations of Conformal Nets, Universal C*-Algebras and K-Theory
We study the representation theory of a conformal net A on the circle from a
K-theoretical point of view using its universal C*-algebra C*(A). We prove that
if A satisfies the split property then, for every representation \pi of A with
finite statistical dimension, \pi(C*(A)) is weakly closed and hence a finite
direct sum of type I_\infty factors. We define the more manageable locally
normal universal C*-algebra C*_ln(A) as the quotient of C*(A) by its largest
ideal vanishing in all locally normal representations and we investigate its
structure. In particular, if A is completely rational with n sectors, then
C*_ln(A) is a direct sum of n type I_\infty factors. Its ideal K_A of compact
operators has nontrivial K-theory, and we prove that the DHR endomorphisms of
C*(A) with finite statistical dimension act on K_A, giving rise to an action of
the fusion semiring of DHR sectors on K_0(K_A)$. Moreover, we show that this
action corresponds to the regular representation of the associated fusion
algebra.Comment: v2: we added some comments in the introduction and new references.

Thermal States in Conformal QFT. II
We continue the analysis of the set of locally normal KMS states w.r.t. the
translation group for a local conformal net A of von Neumann algebras on the
real line. In the first part we have proved the uniqueness of KMS state on
every completely rational net. In this second part, we exhibit several
(non-rational) conformal nets which admit continuously many primary KMS states.
We give a complete classification of the KMS states on the U(1)-current net and
on the Virasoro net Vir_1 with the central charge c=1, whilst for the Virasoro
net Vir_c with c>1 we exhibit a (possibly incomplete) list of continuously many
primary KMS states. To this end, we provide a variation of the
Araki-Haag-Kastler-Takesaki theorem within the locally normal system framework:
if there is an inclusion of split nets A in B and A is the fixed point of B
w.r.t. a compact gauge group, then any locally normal, primary KMS state on A
extends to a locally normal, primary state on B, KMS w.r.t. a perturbed
translation. Concerning the non-local case, we show that the free Fermi model
admits a unique KMS state.Comment: 36 pages, no figure. Dedicated to Rudolf Haag on the occasion of his
90th birthday. The final version is available under Open Access. This paper
contains corrections to the Araki-Haag-Kaster-Takesaki theorem (and to a
proof of the same theorem in the book by Bratteli-Robinson). v3: a reference

Preliminary evaluation of infrastructure and mobility services in mega-event: the Italian case study
Mega-events play an important role in the urban agenda of contemporary metropolises. This importance lies in the fact that such events are seen as possible catalysts for the urban development of a metropolis and more generally of a territory, and an opportunity to establish them as global cities. The planning and programming of a mega-event can be a country's showcase on the international landscape, and the mobility sector plays a significant role in defining its success or failure. Transport infrastructure generally requires high resources for both construction and maintenance even after the event. Therefore, in order to ensure a good outcome, it needs to be planned strategically at multiple levels; this condition brings a benefit to both the host city and the community. The main purpose of this study is to analyze a mega event like the Olympic Games by highlighting the relationship between existing mobility solutions and sustainable solutions considering also the surrounding area. This is to enable the creation of new intelligent transportation options. The Olympic Games, in fact, can represent a valuable opportunity to modernize the existing infrastructure of a country by improving the level of service and quality. The study considers, on the one hand, the expected demand for transport during the event and, on the other, the specific features of the different solutions that can be adopted to meet mobility needs
