    Tensor Polarization of the phi meson Photoproduced at High t

    As part of a measurement of the cross section of ϕ\phi meson photoproduction to high momentum transfer, we measured the polar angular decay distribution of the outgoing K+K^+ in the channel ϕK+K\phi \to K^+K^- in the ϕ\phi center-of-mass frame (the helicity frame). We find that s-channel helicity conservation (SCHC) holds in the kinematical range where tt-channel exchange dominates (up to t2.5-t \sim 2.5 GeV2^2 for EγE_{\gamma}=3.6 GeV). Above this momentum, uu-channel production of a ϕ\phi meson dominates and induces a violation of SCHC. The deduced value of the ϕNN\phi NN coupling constant lies in the upper range of previously reported values.Comment: 6 pages; 5 figure

    O presente trabalho foi realizado em um remanescente de Floresta Estacional Semidecidual antropizado, localizada nas coordenadas 29&deg; 49'S e 52&deg; 25'W, nas proximidades do pólo petroquímico no município de Montenegro (RS), Brasil, com o objetivo de conhecer seus aspectos florísticos e fitossociológicos. A amostragem foi sistemática constituída de 21 faixas com 10m de largura e comprimento variável de acordo com a extensão da floresta, distantes entre si em 80m, onde foram distribuídas parcelas contíguas de 10 x 10m (100m²). Foram avaliados indivíduos que apresentavam circunferência à altura do peito (CAP)>15cm, totalizando 3.854 indivíduos (1,83ha), distribuídos em 81 espécies, 59 gêneros e 32 famílias. As famílias botânicas mais representativas na formação foram Myrtaceae (13 espécies), Fabaceae (7), Lauraceae (6), Meliaceae (5), Moraceae e Euphorbiaceae (4). As espécies mais características e importantes da floresta foram Sebastiania commersoniana, Casearia sylvestris, Myrsine umbellata, Mimosa bimucronata, Allophylus edulis e Syagrus romanzoffiana, representando 51,52 % do VI. A floresta apresentou média diversidade, com índice de Shannon de 1,9948 (nats.), indicando antropismo.<br>This research was developed in a Semideciduous Seasonal Forest located at coordinates (29&deg; 49'S; 52&deg; 25'W) in Montenegro Petrochemical pole, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, aiming at studying the floristic and phytossociological aspects of the forest. Sampling was systematic and composed of 21 strips (10m wide and variable length according to fragment extension located 80m apart. In the strips the distribution was in contiguous 10 X 10m plots (100m²). Individuals that presented circumference at breast height (CBH)>15cm, totaling 3.854 individuals (1,83ha), distributed in 81 species, 59 geneus and 32 families were appraised. The most representative botanic families in the forest formation were Myrtaceae (13 species); Fabaceae (7), Lauraceae (6); Meliaceae (5), Moraceae and Euphorbiaceae (4). The most valuable species were Sebastiania commersoniana, Casearia sylvestris, Myrsine umbellata, Mimosa bimucronata, Allophylus edulis e Syagrus romanzoffiana, representing 51.52 % of IV. The forest had been presented low diversity with Shannon index of 1.9948 (nats/individuals), indicating human impact

    Sedative and anesthetic activities of the essential oils of Hyptis mutabilis (Rich.) Briq. and their isolated components in silver catfish (Rhamdia quelen)

    This study evaluated the sedative and anesthetic effects of the essential oils (EO) of Hyptis mutabilis (Rich.) Briq. and their isolated components on silver catfish (Rhamdia quelen). Quantitative chemical differences between the EOs obtained from leaves and inflorescences were verified, and a new chemotype rich in globulol was described. Although there were no significant differences in the time of induction for sedation and anesthesia between the EOs, only the leaf EO at 344 mg/L anesthetized all fish without side effects. Fractionation of the leaf EO was carried out by column chromatography. The isolated compounds [(+)-1-terpinen-4-ol and (-)-globulol] showed different activity from that detected for the leaf EO in proportional concentrations and similar sedation to a eugenol control at 10 mg/L. However, fish exposed to 1-terpinen-4-ol (3 and 10 mg/L) did not remain sedated for 30 min. Anesthesia was obtained with 83-190 mg/L globulol, but animals showed loss of mucus during induction and mortality at these concentrations. Synergism of the depressor effects was detected with the association of globulol and benzodiazepine (BDZ), compared with either drug alone. Fish exposed to BDZ or globulol+BDZ association showed faster recovery from anesthesia in water containing flumazenil, but the same did not occur with globulol. In conclusion, the use of globulol in aquaculture procedures should be considered only at sedative concentrations of 10 and 20 mg/L, and its mechanism of action seems not to involve the GABAA-BDZ system
