Dynamic Server Allocation over Time Varying Channels with Switchover Delay
We consider a dynamic server allocation problem over parallel queues with
randomly varying connectivity and server switchover delay between the queues.
At each time slot the server decides either to stay with the current queue or
switch to another queue based on the current connectivity and the queue length
information. Switchover delay occurs in many telecommunications applications
and is a new modeling component of this problem that has not been previously
addressed. We show that the simultaneous presence of randomly varying
connectivity and switchover delay changes the system stability region and the
structure of optimal policies. In the first part of the paper, we consider a
system of two parallel queues, and develop a novel approach to explicitly
characterize the stability region of the system using state-action frequencies
which are stationary solutions to a Markov Decision Process (MDP) formulation.
We then develop a frame-based dynamic control (FBDC) policy, based on the
state-action frequencies, and show that it is throughput-optimal asymptotically
in the frame length. The FBDC policy is applicable to a broad class of network
control systems and provides a new framework for developing throughput-optimal
network control policies using state-action frequencies. Furthermore, we
develop simple Myopic policies that provably achieve more than 90% of the
stability region. In the second part of the paper, we extend our results to

Macromolecular separation through a porous surface
A new technique for the separation of macromolecules is proposed and
investigated. A thin mesh with pores comparable to the radius of gyration of a
free chain is used to filter chains according to their length. Without a field
it has previously been shown that the permeability decays as a power law with
chain length. However by applying particular configurations of pulsed fields,
it is possible to have a permeability that decays as an exponential. This
faster decay gives much higher resolution of separation. We also propose a
modified screen containing an array of holes with barb-like protrusions running
parallel to the surface. When static friction is present between the
macromolecule and the protrusion, some of the chains get trapped for long
durations of time. By using this and a periodic modulation of an applied

Single Z' production at CLIC based on e^- gamma collisions
We analyze the potential of CLIC based on e- gamma collisions to search for
new gauge boson. Single Z' production at e-gamma colliders in two SU(3)_C
X SU(3)_L X U(1)_N models: the minimal model and the model with right-handed
(RH) neutrinos is studied in detail. Results show that new Z' gauge bosons can
be observed at the CLIC, and the cross sections in the model with RH neutrinos

Using Proxies for the Short Rate: When are Three Months Like an Instant?
The dynamics of the unobservable "short" or "instantaneous" rate of interest are frequently estimated using a proxy variable. We show the biases resulting from this practice (the "proxy" problem) are related to the derivatives of the proxy with respect to the short rate and the (inverse) function from the proxy to the short rate. Analytic results show that the proxy problem is not economically significant for single- factor affine models, for parameter values consistent with US data. In addition, for the two-factor affine model of Longstaff and Schwartz (1992), the proxy problem is only economically significant for pricing discount bonds with maturities of more than 5 years. We also describe two different procedures which can be used to assess the magnitude of the proxy problem in more general interest rate models. Numerical evaluation of a nonlinear single-factor model suggests that the proxy problem can significantly affect both estimates of the diffusion function and discount bond prices.interest rates, proxies, term structure
Tripartite Graph Clustering for Dynamic Sentiment Analysis on Social Media
The growing popularity of social media (e.g, Twitter) allows users to easily
share information with each other and influence others by expressing their own
sentiments on various subjects. In this work, we propose an unsupervised
\emph{tri-clustering} framework, which analyzes both user-level and tweet-level
sentiments through co-clustering of a tripartite graph. A compelling feature of
the proposed framework is that the quality of sentiment clustering of tweets,
users, and features can be mutually improved by joint clustering. We further
investigate the evolution of user-level sentiments and latent feature vectors
in an online framework and devise an efficient online algorithm to sequentially
update the clustering of tweets, users and features with newly arrived data.
The online framework not only provides better quality of both dynamic
user-level and tweet-level sentiment analysis, but also improves the
computational and storage efficiency. We verified the effectiveness and
efficiency of the proposed approaches on the November 2012 California ballot

Self-interacting dark matter and Higgs bosons in the SU(3)_C x SU(3)_L x U(1)_N model with right-handed neutrinos
We investigate the possibility that dark matter could be made from CP-even
and CP- odd Higgs bosons in the SU(3)_C X SU(3)_L X U(1)_N (3-3-1) model with
right-handed neutrinos. This self-interacting dark matters are stable without

Solving the Dirac equation with nonlocal potential by Imaginary Time Step method
The Imaginary Time Step (ITS) method is applied to solve the Dirac equation
with the nonlocal potential in coordinate space by the ITS evolution for the
corresponding Schr\"odinger-like equation for the upper component. It is
demonstrated that the ITS evolution can be equivalently performed for the
Schr\"odinger-like equation with or without localization. The latter algorithm
is recommended in the application for the reason of simplicity and efficiency.
The feasibility and reliability of this algorithm are also illustrated by
taking the nucleus O as an example, where the same results as the
shooting method for the Dirac equation with localized effective potentials are
obtained

Maternal Performance of First-Calf Crossbred Beef Cowns in Relation to Sire Expected Progeny Differency (EPDs)
Cumulative milk production of crossbred daughters of sires of several breeds was estimated using weigh-suckle-weigh procedures. Pooled-across-breed analyses were conducted to determine, in retrospect, relationships of sire expected progeny difference (EPD) values for milk and total maternal value to daughter milk yield and daughter\u27s offspring weaning weight. The pooled coefficient for regression of daughter 214-day milk yield sire milk EPD was 13.4 Ib/lb (residual correlation was .14). The overall mean estimated milk yield was 2,782 Ib, suggesting that a difference in sire milk EPD of 1 Ib corresponded to a difference of approximately 5% in cumulative daughter milk yield. The pooled coefficient for regression of daughter\u27s offspring 214-day weight on sire total maternal EPD was 1.1 8 Ib/lb (residual correlation was .17). Breeders who use sire milk and total maternal EPD values as selection tools should expect such selection to be effective, on average, but should also expect that a substantial proportion of individuals or small groups may not rank as predicted
