Revisiting the hot matter in the center of gamma-ray bursts and supernova

Hot matter with nucleons can be produced in the inner region of the neutrino-dominated accretion flow in gamma-ray bursts or during the proto-neutron star birth in successful supernova. The composition and equation of state of the matter depend on the dynamic β\beta equilibrium under various neutrino opacities. The strong interaction between nucleons may also play an important role. We plan to extend the previous studies by incorporating these two aspects in our model. The modification of the β\beta-equilibrium condition from neutrino optically thin to thick has been modeled by an equilibrium factor χ\chi ranging between the neutrino-freely-escaping case and the neutrino-trapped case. We employ the microscopic Brueckner-Hartree-Fock approach extended to the finite temperature regime to study the interacting nucleons. We show that the composition and chemical potentials of the hot nuclear matter for different densities and temperatures at each stage of β\beta equilibrium. We also compare our realistic equation of states with those of the free gas model. We find the neutrino opacity and the strong interaction between nucleons are important for the description and should be taken into account in model calculations.Comment: accepted Astronomy & Astrophysics (2013

Supersymmetry and the AdS Higgs Phenomenon

We examine the AdS Higgs phenomenon for spin-1 fields, and demonstrate that graviphotons pick up a dynamically generated mass in AdS_4, once matter boundary conditions are relaxed. We perform an explicit one-loop calculation of the graviphoton mass, and compare this result with the mass generated for the graviton in AdS. In this manner, we obtain a condition for unbroken supersymmetry. With this condition, we examine both N=2 and N=4 gauged supergravities coupled to matter multiplets, and find that for both cases the ratio between dynamically generated graviton and graviphoton masses is consistent with unbroken supersymmetry.Comment: 12 pages, JHEP forma

Dynamic resource allocation scheme for distributed heterogeneous computer systems

    Get PDF
This invention relates to a resource allocation in computer systems, and more particularly, to a method and associated apparatus for shortening response time and improving efficiency of a heterogeneous distributed networked computer system by reallocating the jobs queued up for busy nodes to idle, or less-busy nodes. In accordance with the algorithm (SIDA for short), the load-sharing is initiated by the server device in a manner such that extra overhead in not imposed on the system during heavily-loaded conditions. The algorithm employed in the present invention uses a dual-mode, server-initiated approach. Jobs are transferred from heavily burdened nodes (i.e., over a high threshold limit) to low burdened nodes at the initiation of the receiving node when: (1) a job finishes at a node which is burdened below a pre-established threshold level, or (2) a node is idle for a period of time as established by a wakeup timer at the node. The invention uses a combination of the local queue length and the local service rate ratio at each node as the workload indicator

    Mass in anti-de Sitter spaces

The boundary stress tensor approach has proven extremely useful in defining mass and angular momentum in asymptotically anti-de Sitter spaces with CFT duals. An integral part of this method is the use of boundary counterterms to regulate the gravitational action and stress tensor. In addition to the standard gravitational counterterms, in the presence of matter we advocate the use of a finite counterterm proportional to phi^2 (in five dimensions). We demonstrate that this finite shift is necessary to properly reproduce the expected mass/charge relation for R-charged black holes in AdS_5.Comment: 15 pages, late

Simulation of SU(2) Dynamical Fermion at Finite Chemical Potential and at Finite Temperature

    Get PDF
SU(2) lattice gauge theory with dynamical fermion at non-zero chemical potential and at finite temperature is studied. We focus on the influence of chemical potential for quark condensate and mass of pseudoscalar meson at finite temperature. Hybrid Monte Carlo simulations with Nf=8N_f=8 staggered fermions are carried out on 12×12×24×412 \times 12\times 24 \times 4 lattice. At β=1.1\beta=1.1 and mq=m_{q}=0.05,0.07,0.1, we calculate the quark condensate and masses of pseudoscalar meson consisting of light and heavier quarks for chemical potential μ=\mu= 0.0,0.02,0.05,0.1,0.2.Comment: Proceedings of the International Workshop on Nonperturbative Methods and Lattice QCD, Guangzhou, Chin

Small Treatise on Spin-3/2 Fields and their Dual Spectral Functions

    Get PDF
In this work we systematically study various aspects of spin-3/2 fields in a curved background. We mostly focus on a minimally coupled massive spin-3/2 field in arbitrary dimensions, and solve the equation of motion either explicitly or numerically in AdS, Schwarzschild-AdS and Reissner-Nordstr\"om-AdS backgrounds. Although not the main focus of this work, we also make a connection with the gravitino equation of motion in gauged supergravity. Motivated by the AdS/CFT correspondence, we emphasize calculational improvements and technical details of the dual spectral functions. We attempt to provide a coherent and comprehensive picture of the existing literature.Comment: 40 pages, 11 figures. V2: comments and references adde
