    Uncertain Knowledge Reasoning Based on the Fuzzy Multi-Entity Bayesian Network

    With the rapid development of the semantic web and the ever-growing size of uncertain data, representing and reasoning uncertain information has become a great challenge for the semantic web application developers. In this paper, we present a novel reasoning framework based on the representation of fuzzy PR-OWL. Firstly, the paper gives an overview of the previous research work on uncertainty knowledge representation and reasoning, incorporates Ontology into the fuzzy Multi Entity Bayesian Networks theory, and introduces fuzzy PR-OWL, an Ontology language based on OWL2. Fuzzy PR-OWL describes fuzzy semantics and uncertain relations and gives grammatical definition and semantic interpretation. Secondly, the paper explains the integration of the Fuzzy Probability theory and the Belief Propagation algorithm. The influencing factors of fuzzy rules are added to the belief that is propagated between the nodes to create a reasoning framework based on fuzzy PR-OWL. After that, the reasoning process, including the SSFBN structure algorithm, data fuzzification, reasoning of fuzzy rules, and fuzzy belief propagation, is scheduled. Finally, compared with the classical algorithm from the aspect of accuracy and time complexity, our uncertain data representation and reasoning method has higher accuracy without significantly increasing time complexity, which proves the feasibility and validity of our solution to represent and reason uncertain information

    The Role of Latency-Associated Transcripts in the Latent Infection of Pseudorabies Virus

    Pseudorabies virus (PRV) can cause neurological, respiratory, and reproductive diseases in pigs and establish lifelong latent infection in the peripheral nervous system (PNS). Latent infection is a typical feature of PRV, which brings great difficulties to the prevention, control, and eradication of pseudorabies. The integral mechanism of latent infection is still unclear. Latency-associated transcripts (LAT) gene is the only transcriptional region during latent infection of PRV which plays the key role in regulating viral latent infection and inhibiting apoptosis. Here, we review the characteristics of PRV latent infection and the transcriptional characteristics of the LAT gene. We also analyzed the function of non-coding RNA (ncRNA) produced by the LAT gene and its importance in latent infection. Furthermore, we provided possible strategies to solve the problem of latent infection of virulent PRV strains in the host. In short, the detailed mechanism of PRV latent infection needs to be further studied and elucidated

    How Do Ecological Restoration Projects Affect Trade-Offs and Synergies between Ecosystem Services?

    Scientific ecosystem management requires the clarification of the synergic and trade-off relationship between ecosystem services, particularly in the environmentally delicate Loess Plateau region. Previous studies have indirectly deduced that ecological restoration projects affect ESRs by analyzing their impacts on ecosystem services, but there is no direct evidence from the existing research to show whether and to what extent different ecological restoration projects have an impact on trade-off synergies, which weakens the explanatory strength of ecological restoration projects as an important factor affecting ESRs. In this study, based on the spatial mapping of three pairs of relationships between three typical ESs in Fugu County, Shaanxi Province, and the relative contribution of each ecological restoration projects, as well as Ecosystem services and the relationship between them, were explored through the boosted regression tree modeling (BRT). This study proved that different ecological restoration projects have different impacts on ESRs. The results indicated that the three pairs of ESRs obtained among the three ecosystem services in Fugu County could be categorized into two types. The relationship between carbon storage and soil conservation and the relationship between carbon storage and water conservation CSā€“WC were spatially predominantly trade-offs, and their spatial distributions were highly similar. Various ecological restoration projects have varying effects on ESRs. The connection between ecological restoration projects and ESRs involves a nonlinear transformation, and the change varies from project to project. Based on the above findings, this study further explores the influence process of various types of ecological restoration projects on ESRs, and provides scientific support for optimizing ecosystem management and comprehensive management of the region

    Coupling effect of ultrasonic vibration and beam oscillation on FQZ soften inhibition of laser welded Al-Mg alloy joints

    A novel ultrasonic vibration assisted laser beam oscillation welding (UV-LBOW) method was developed and applied on the butt-welding of Al-Mg alloy sheets. Due to the synergistic enhancement of the molten pool flow by ultrasound vibration and laser beam oscillation, the microstructure morphology of fusion zone (FZ) was comprised of equiaxed grains. Additionly, a uniform element distribution was generated from the boundary to the center of the FZ. An enhanced tensile strength of 347Ā MPa and a fraction elongation of 19.0 % were obtained due to the grain refinement and solid solution strengthening effects

    An extended research of crossmodal correspondence between color and sound in psychology and cognitive ergonomics

    Based on the existing research on sound symbolism and crossmodal correspondence, this study proposed an extended research on cross-modal correspondence between various sound attributes and color properties in a group of non-synesthetes. In Experiment 1, we assessed the associations between each property of sounds and colors. Twenty sounds with five auditory properties (pitch, roughness, sharpness, tempo and discontinuity), each varied in four levels, were used as the sound stimuli. Forty-nine colors with different hues, saturation and brightness were used to match to those sounds. Result revealed that besides pitch and tempo, roughness and sharpness also played roles in sound-color correspondence. Reaction times of sound-hue were a little longer than the reaction times of sound-lightness. In Experiment 2, a speeded target discrimination task was used to assess whether the associations between sound attributes and color properties could invoke natural cross-modal correspondence and improve participantsā€™ cognitive efficiency in cognitive tasks. Several typical sound-color pairings were selected according to the results of Experiment 1. Participants were divided into two groups (congruent and incongruent). In each trial participants had to judge whether the presented color could appropriately be associated with the sound stimuli. Result revealed that participants responded more quickly and accurately in the congruent group than in the incongruent group. It was also found that there was no significant difference in reaction times and error rates between sound-hue and sound-lightness. The results of Experiment 1 and 2 indicate the existence of a robust crossmodal correspondence between multiple attributes of sound and color, which also has strong influence on cognitive tasks. The inconsistency of the reaction times between sound-hue and sound-lightness in Experiment 1 and 2 is probably owing to the difference in experimental protocol, which indicates that the complexity of experiment design may be an important factor in crossmodal correspondence phenomena

    Structure, Antioxidant, and Hypoglycemic Activities of Arabinoxylans Extracted by Multiple Methods from Triticale

    Different methods of isolating arabinoxylans (AXs) from triticale were performed to investigate the extraction methods’ effects on the physiological functions of the AXs. Structural, antioxidant, and hypoglycemic activities were determined. The molecular weights (MWs) of enzyme- or water-extracted AXs were lower than those of alkali-extracted AXs. Opposite trends were shown by the arabinose–xylose ratio. Enzyme-extracted AXs exhibited higher glucose adsorption capacity and hydroxyl radical-scavenging efficiency than alkali-extracted AXs. The α-amylase inhibition ability, DPPH radical-scavenging capacity, and metal-chelating activity of alkali-extracted AXs were higher than those of enzyme-extracted AXs. Water-extracted AXs had the highest glucose dialysis retardation index. In conclusion, extraction methods can influence the physiological function of AXs through their structural features. AXs with higher MWs and esterified ferulic acid (FA) levels had higher antioxidant ability, whereas AXs with higher solubility and free FA level exhibited higher hypoglycemic activity

    Cholesterol Retards Senescence in Bone Marrow Mesenchymal Stem Cells by Modulating Autophagy and ROS/p53/p21 Cip1/Waf1

    In the present study, we demonstrated that bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs) of the 3rd passage displayed the senescence-associated phenotypes characterized with increased activity of SA-Ī²-gal, altered autophagy, and increased G1 cell cycle arrest, ROS production, and expression of p53 and p21Cip1/Waf1 compared with BMSCs of the 1st passage. Cholesterol (CH) reduced the number of SA-Ī²-gal positive cells in a dose-dependent manner in aging BMSCs induced by H2O2 and the 3rd passage BMSCs. Moreover, CH inhibited the production of ROS and expression of p53 and p21Cip1/Waf1 in both cellular senescence models and decreased the percentage of BMSCs in G1 cell cycle in the 3rd passage BMSCs. CH prevented the increase in SA-Ī²-gal positive cells induced by RITA (reactivation of p53 and induction of tumor cell apoptosis, a p53 activator) or 3-MA (3-methyladenine, an autophagy inhibitor). Our results indicate that CH not only is a structural component of cell membrane but also functionally contributes to regulating cellular senescence by modulating cell cycle, autophagy, and the ROS/p53/p21Cip1/Waf1 signaling pathway

    CD39-Expressing CD8<sup>+</sup> T Cells as a New Molecular Marker for Diagnosis and Prognosis of Esophageal Squamous Cell Carcinoma

    We aimed to explore the effect of CD39 expression on CD8+ T cells and on the diagnosis and prognosis of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC). The independent prognostic factors for the surgical specimens of the 95 ESCC patients were screened by multivariate Cox regression analysis. Differential gene expression analysis was performed by the NetworkAnalyst platform based on data from the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO). The expression of CD39 on CD8+ T cells in the CK+ region was higher in cancer tissue than in paracancerous tissue (p = 0.011), and high CD39-expressing CD8+ T cells in the CK+ region (HR, 2.587; p = 0.033) and high CD39-expressing CD8+ T cells in the CKāˆ’ region (HR, 3.090; p = 0.008) were independent risk factors for prognosis in ESCC patients; the expression of ENTPD1 was upregulated in ESCC tissues compared to normal tissues (adjusted p 2 fold change = 1.99), and its expression was significantly positively correlated with the expression of PDCD1, CTLA4, and HAVCR2. High CD39-expressing CD8+ T cells can be used as a new molecular marker for the diagnosis and prognosis of ESCC, and the restoration of partially exhausted CD8+ T cells by inhibiting CD39 may be a new strategy for treating ESCC
