Perturbation bounds for the largest C-eigenvalue of piezoelectric-type tensors

In this paper, we focus on the perturbation analysis of the largest C-eigenvalue of the piezoelectric-type tensor which has concrete physical meaning which determines the highest piezoelectric coupling constant. Three perturbation bounds are presented, theoretical analysis and numerical examples show that the third perturbation bound has high accuracy when the norm of the perturbation tensor is small

Advanced DSP for coherent optical fiber communication

In this paper, we provide an overview of recent progress on advanced digital signal processing (DSP) techniques for high-capacity long-haul coherent optical fiber transmission systems. Not only the linear impairments existing in optical transmission links need to be compensated, but also, the nonlinear impairments require proper algorithms for mitigation because they become major limiting factors for long-haul large-capacity optical transmission systems. Besides the time domain equalization (TDE), the frequency domain equalization (FDE) DSP also provides a similar performance, with a much-reduced computational complexity. Advanced DSP also plays an important role for the realization of space division multiplexing (SDM). SDM techniques have been developed recently to enhance the system capacity by at least one order of magnitude. Some impressive results have been reported and have outperformed the nonlinear Shannon limit of the single-mode fiber (SMF). SDM introduces the space dimension to the optical fiber communication. The few-mode fiber (FMF) and multi-core fiber (MCF) have been manufactured for novel multiplexing techniques such as mode-division multiplexing (MDM) and multi-core multiplexing (MCM). Each mode or core can be considered as an independent degree of freedom, but unfortunately, signals will suffer serious coupling during the propagation. Multi-input−multi-output (MIMO) DSP can equalize the signal coupling and makes SDM transmission feasible. The machine learning (ML) technique has attracted worldwide attention and has been explored for advanced DSP. In this paper, we firstly introduce the principle and scheme of coherent detection to explain why the DSP techniques can compensate for transmission impairments. Then corresponding technologies related to the DSP, such as nonlinearity compensation, FDE, SDM and ML will be discussed. Relevant techniques will be analyzed, and representational results and experimental verifications will be demonstrated. In the end, a brief conclusion and perspective will be provided

AbstractFor the purpose of controlling the quality of forging process, a low-pricedmonochrome CCD is adopted to establish avision measurement systemto gauge the two-dimensional sizes of hot parts accuratelyin the paper. To derive the two dimensions of the forgings, comparison measurement method is employed. In the system, images are taken by the CCD through an infrared filter to filter out the strong light emitted from the forgings. And thenaverage filtering and morphological filtering are used to reduce the effect of image noise. In order toimprove the precision of geometry position, image distortion is corrected to reduce theoptical distortion errors. After that, the edges in images are extracted at sub-pixel level to improve the location accuracy of geometry features. After calibration, the horizontal equivalent size of a pixel is 0.119mm, while the vertical 0.120mm. As be verified, the horizontal measurement uncertainty is 0.0069mm, while vertical 0.0063mm. Images of a 45# steel cuboid at 1000°C are captured and its dimensionsare calculated through the procedure described in the paper, which have a difference less than 0.5mm compared with the theoretical values, indicating the precision and practicality of the method proposed in the paper

Function annotation of hepatic retinoid x receptor α based on genome-wide DNA binding and transcriptome profiling.

BackgroundRetinoid x receptor α (RXRα) is abundantly expressed in the liver and is essential for the function of other nuclear receptors. Using chromatin immunoprecipitation sequencing and mRNA profiling data generated from wild type and RXRα-null mouse livers, the current study identifies the bona-fide hepatic RXRα targets and biological pathways. In addition, based on binding and motif analysis, the molecular mechanism by which RXRα regulates hepatic genes is elucidated in a high-throughput manner.Principal findingsClose to 80% of hepatic expressed genes were bound by RXRα, while 16% were expressed in an RXRα-dependent manner. Motif analysis predicted direct repeat with a spacer of one nucleotide as the most prevalent RXRα binding site. Many of the 500 strongest binding motifs overlapped with the binding motif of specific protein 1. Biological functional analysis of RXRα-dependent genes revealed that hepatic RXRα deficiency mainly resulted in up-regulation of steroid and cholesterol biosynthesis-related genes and down-regulation of translation- as well as anti-apoptosis-related genes. Furthermore, RXRα bound to many genes that encode nuclear receptors and their cofactors suggesting the central role of RXRα in regulating nuclear receptor-mediated pathways.ConclusionsThis study establishes the relationship between RXRα DNA binding and hepatic gene expression. RXRα binds extensively to the mouse genome. However, DNA binding does not necessarily affect the basal mRNA level. In addition to metabolism, RXRα dictates the expression of genes that regulate RNA processing, translation, and protein folding illustrating the novel roles of hepatic RXRα in post-transcriptional regulation
