Comparison of Cross Dressing in The Twelfth Night and Yi Zhong Yuan

The device of cross dressing is adopted both by Renaissance writer Shakespeare and Chinese writer Li Yu in late Ming and Early Qing dynasty. This paper makes a comparison between Shakespeare’s work The Twelfth Night and Li Yu’s Yi Zhong Yuan (The Desired Ideal Matches), in which the female protagonists are dressed in men’s cloth. The two female protagonists transgress into men’s world by cross dressing, showing the ambiguity of gender identity and challenging the dominant system by men. However, they owed different attitudes towards cross dressing and different level of masculinity. Traced back into the concept of gender in two cultures, we may find an answer to this difference.

PAX6 gene plays an important role in embryological development, and the mutation of this gene may result incongenital aniridia, retinoblastoma, macula hypoplasia, Peters' anomaly and so on. A brief introduction of the background PAX6 gene, and the association between PAX6 and retinal diseases were summarized in this review

Multislice CT virtual endoscopy in pre-aortic stent grafting: optimization of scanning protocals

The purpose of this study was to investigate the optimal scanning protocols of multislice CT (MSCT) angiography in pre-aortic stent grafting, visualized on virtual endoscopy (VE). A series of scans were performed on a human aorta phantom with a 16-slice multislice CT scanner with the scanning protocols as follows: section thickness of 1.0/1.5/2.0/3.0 mm, pitch value of 1.0/1.25/1.5, and reconstruction interval of 50% overlap. Signal to noise ratio and standard deviation (SD) of the signal intensity on VE images were measured to determine the image quality in relation to MSCT scanning protocols. Subjective assessment was performed by two observers evaluating the degree of artefacts and the configuration of the renal ostium visualized on VE images. Our results showed that the scanning protocol with a section thickness of 2.0 mm resulted in the highest SNR and lowest SD compared to other protocols (p<0.05). Subjective assessment demonstrated that VE image quality was determined by section thickness, but independent of pitch values. We recommended the scanning protocol of section thickness 2.0 mm, pitch 1.5 with a reconstruction interval of 1.0 mm as the optimal one since it allows optimal visualization of VE images of aortic ostia, fewer artefacts and less radiation dose

Abstract

Background

The generic and oral health-related quality of life (QoL) has provided opportunity for investigation of the interrelations among generic health, oral health, and related outcomes. The purpose of this study was to identify the generic and oral QoL in the patients with oral mucosal disease (OMD).

Methods

Five hundred and thirty-eight OMDs were recruited in this study. The instruments applied were Chinese version of the 36-item short form health survey (SF-36) and the short-form of Oral Health Impact Profile (OHIP-14).

Results

The mean score of sum OHIP-14 was significantly higher in the patients with OMD (10.81 ± 9.01) compared with those in the healthy subjects (HS) (6.55 ± 6.73) (p < 0.001, Mann-Whitney U test). 56.51% of the OMD patients and 12.94% of the HS reported at least one oral negative impact (p < 0.001, Chi-square test). The overall mean score of SF-36 was significantly lower in the patients with OMD (74.54 ± 12.77) compared with those in the HS (77.97 ± 12.39) (p = 0.021, t-test).

Conclusions

Administration of specific and generic questionnaires of QoL can provide us a detailed picture of the impact of OMDs on patients, and both generic and oral QoL were impaired in the patients with OMD.</p
