Rigid vortices in MgB2

Magnetic relaxation of high-pressure synthesized MgB2_2 bulks with different thickness is investigated. It is found that the superconducting dia-magnetic moment depends on time in a logarithmic way; the flux-creep activation energy decreases linearly with the current density (as expected by Kim-Anderson model); and the activation energy increases linearly with the thickness of sample when it is thinner than about 1 mm. These features suggest that the vortices in the MgB2_2 are rather rigid, and the pinning and creep can be well described by Kim-Anderson model.Comment: Typo corrected & reference adde

On the Momentum Dependence of the Flavor Structure of the Nucleon Sea

Difference between the uˉ\bar u and dˉ\bar d sea quark distributions in the proton was first observed in the violation of the Gottfried sum rule in deep-inelastic scattering (DIS) experiments. The parton momentum fraction xx dependence of this difference has been measured over the region 0.02<x<0.350.02 < x < 0.35 from Drell-Yan and semi-inclusive DIS experiments. The Drell-Yan data suggested a possible sign-change for dˉ(x)−uˉ(x)\bar d(x)-\bar u(x) near x∼0.3x \sim 0.3, which has not yet been explained by existing theoretical models. We present an independent evidence for the dˉ(x)−uˉ(x)\bar d(x)-\bar u(x) sign-change at x∼0.3x \sim 0.3 from an analysis of the DIS data. We further discuss the xx-dependence of dˉ(x)−uˉ(x)\bar d(x)-\bar u(x) in the context of meson cloud model and the lattice QCD formulation.Comment: 5 pages, 5 figures, final versio

Advanced Fabrication and Properties of Aligned Carbon Nanotube Composites: Experiments and Modeling

Aligned carbon nanotube (CNT) composites have attracted a lot of interest due to their superb mechanical and physical properties. This article presents a brief overview of the synthesis approaches of aligned CNT composites. The three major methods for fabricating aligned CNT fibers are first reviewed, including wet-spinning, dry-spinning and floating catalysts. The obtained CNT fibers, however, have limited mechanical and physical properties due to their porous structure and poor CNT alignment within the fibers. Appropriate treatments are required to densify the fibers to enhance their properties. The main approaches for the densification of CNT fibers are then discussed. To further enhance load transfer within CNT fibers, polymer infiltration is always used. Typical studies on polymer infiltration of CNT fibers are reviewed, and the properties of the obtained composites indicate the superiority of this composite fabrication method over the conventional dispersion method. Since aligned CNT composites are usually obtained in structures of long fiber or thin film, it is difficult to measure the thermal conductivity of these composites. An off-lattice Monte Carlo model is developed to accurately predict the thermal conductivity of aligned CNT composites

Objective: To investigate the protective effect of two - myricetin (DMY) on diabetic nephropathy (DN) and its effect on renal fibrosis. Methods: the DN model was established by intraperitoneal injection of high-dose (55 mg · kg-1) streptozotocin (STZ). The model was successfully established with blood glucose > 16.7 mmol · L-1. The rats were randomly divided into normal group, model group and low, medium and high dose DMY group (125, 250 and 500 mg · kg-1). DMY group was administered by gavage, and the model group was administered by normal saline for 12 weeks. The contents of 24h urinary protein (24h-Pro), blood urea nitrogen (BUN) and blood creatinine (SCR) were detected by biochemistry. He staining was used to observe the morphological changes of kidney in each group, PAS staining was used to observe the changes of basement membrane thickness of renal tissue in each group, and Masson staining was used to observe the degree of glomerulosclerosis and renal interstitial fibrosis in each group. TGF in renal tissue of rats in each group was detected by Western blot- β1. Expression level of Smad2 and Smad7. Results: compared with the normal group, the contents of 24h pro, bun and SCR in DN model group were significantly increased (P < 0.01). Compared with the model group, the contents of 24h pro, bun and SCR in each dose of DMY group decreased (P < 0.01). The pathological results showed that the renal tissue of the model group showed increased glomerular volume and glue mor
