Studies on Utilizing the Three Famous International Index Systems to Evaluate Scientific Research Level of Higher Learning Institutions
Science Citation Index (SCI), The Engineering Index (EI) and Index to Scientific & Technical Proceeding (ISTP) are widely accepted and used to evaluate the scientific research level of higher learning institutions by many country's science and technology field currently. After research, we point out the blemishes in this method and put forward the problems that need to be noticed, and then, under current conditions, bring forward brand-new standard and method to estimate research level, efficiency, fund exploitation and so on. One shouldn't over-emphasize the total amount of papers collected in SCI, EI & ISTP when evaluating the scientific research level of higher learning institutions, whereas using ‘comprehensive factor’ analysis method can make it more scientific and efficient
Convergence properties of nonmonotone spectral projected gradient methods
AbstractIn a recent paper, a nonmonotone spectral projected gradient (SPG) method was introduced by Birgin et al. for the minimization of differentiable functions on closed convex sets and extensive presented results showed that this method was very efficient. In this paper, we give a more comprehensive theoretical analysis of the SPG method. In doing so, we remove various boundedness conditions that are assumed in existing results, such as boundedness from below of f, boundedness of xk or existence of accumulation point of {xk}. If ∇f(·) is uniformly continuous, we establish the convergence theory of this method and prove that the SPG method forces the sequence of projected gradients to zero. Moreover, we show under appropriate conditions that the SPG method has some encouraging convergence properties, such as the global convergence of the sequence of iterates generated by this method and the finite termination, etc. Therefore, these results show that the SPG method is attractive in theory
Organization, Administrative Practices and Written Documentation at Puzriš-Dagan during the Reign of Amar-Suen
This dissertation aims to clarify the way that the Puzriš-Dagan organization functioned, by providing a comprehensive study of its organization, administrative practices and the written documentation dating to the reign of Amar-Suen, the third king of the Third Dynasty of Ur (ca. 2112-2004 BC). This study depends on the most abundant Sumerian textual data hitherto, which constitute a promising source for Assyriological studies regarding the understanding of the political, socio-economic, and religious history of the Ancient Near East. By a statistical analysis of text formulary and written documentation, this thesis also contributes to the understanding of ancient Mesopotamian bookkeeping
Non-Asymptotic Bounds for Adversarial Excess Risk under Misspecified Models
We propose a general approach to evaluating the performance of robust
estimators based on adversarial losses under misspecified models. We first show
that adversarial risk is equivalent to the risk induced by a distributional
adversarial attack under certain smoothness conditions. This ensures that the
adversarial training procedure is well-defined. To evaluate the generalization
performance of the adversarial estimator, we study the adversarial excess risk.
Our proposed analysis method includes investigations on both generalization
error and approximation error. We then establish non-asymptotic upper bounds
for the adversarial excess risk associated with Lipschitz loss functions. In
addition, we apply our general results to adversarial training for
classification and regression problems. For the quadratic loss in nonparametric
regression, we show that the adversarial excess risk bound can be improved over
those for a general loss.Comment: 27 pages, 3 table
New Differential Privacy Communication Pipeline and Design Framework
Organizations started to adopt differential privacy (DP) techniques hoping to
persuade more users to share personal data with them. However, many users do
not understand DP techniques, thus may not be willing to share. Previous
research suggested that the design of DP mechanism communication could
influence users' willingness to share data. Based on the prior work, we propose
a new communication pipeline that starts by asking users about their privacy
concerns and then provides a customized DP mechanism and communication. We also
propose a design framework that systemically explores effective communication
designs ranging from a text-based high-level description to a step-by-step
interactive storyboard. Based on the framework, we created 17 designs and
recruited five people to evaluate. Our user study showed that text-based
descriptions have the highest clarity in all scenarios, while the step-by-step
interactive storyboards have the potential to persuade users to trust central
DP. Our future work will optimize the design and conduct a large-scale efficacy
study.Comment: poste
Vanadium-Enriched Cordyceps sinensis, a Contemporary Treatment Approach to Both Diabetes and Depression in Rats
This article studies a contemporary treatment approach toward both diabetes and depression management by vanadium-enriched Cordyceps sinensis (VECS). Streptozotocin-induced hyperglycemic rats were used in the study. After the rats were administered with VECS, a significant reduction in blood glucose levels was seen (P < .05) and the levels of serum insulin increased significantly (P < .05). At the same time, the study revealed a significant decrease in immobility with a corresponding increase in the swimming and climbing behavior in hyperglycemic rats following VECS treatment. The results described herein demonstrate that VECS is a contemporary treatment approach that advocates an aggressive stance toward both diabetes and depression management
Impaired atrial electromechanical function and atrial fibrillation promotion in alloxan-induced diabetic rabbits
Background: Diabetes mellitus (DM) is an independent risk factor for atrial fibrillation (AF). However, the underlying mechanisms are still not clearly elucidated. The aim of this study was to evaluate the atrial electromechanical function, atrial electrophysiological changes and AF inducibility in alloxan-induced diabetic rabbits. Methods: In 8 alloxan-induced diabetic rabbits and 8 controls, we evaluated atrial electromechanical function by tissue Doppler imaging. Isolated Langendorff-perfused rabbit hearts were prepared to measure atrial refractory effective period (AERP) and its dispersion (AERPD), interatrial conduction time (IACT) and vulnerability to AF. Atrial interstitial fibrosis was evaluated by Sirius-Red staining. Results: Compared with controls, left atrial lateral wall Pa’-start interval (Pastart) and right atrial wall Pastart were increased in diabetic rabbits. AERPD was increased and IACT was prolonged in diabetic rabbits. Inducibility of AF in diabetic group was significant higher than controls (6/8 vs. 1/8, p < 0.05). Extensive interstitial fibrosis was observed in the DM group (p < 0.01). Correlation analysis showed that right atrial wall Pastart, Pa’-peak interval (Papeak) and total electromechanical activity (TEMA); left atrial lateral wall Papeak and TEMA, left atrial posterior wall TEMA, and IACT were correlated with atrial areas of fibrosis. Conclusions: Atrial electromechanical function is impaired in diabetic rabbits, and is associated with atrial fibrosis and interatrial electrical conduction delay
