In 2004, the Center for Small Towns worked with the Benson Chamber of Commerce to develop and conduct a survey of Business owners. Journey Mapping: A New Approach to Extension Program Design and Evaluation

With origins in service and human-centered design and customer experience, journey mapping is a research and evaluation method that allows users to visualize the journey a person or group takes while engaging in a service, program, or system. Using this method, individuals provide feedback on their experience, highlighting successes and challenges along the way. Minnesota Extension educators have utilized journey mapping in program design and evaluation contexts and have found great value in both. This article highlights three use cases which provide insight into lessons learned during the process and how Extension staff may use the tool in the future

Highway 68 Corridor -- Public Input on Safety and Transit

The University of Minnesota, Morris | Center for Small Towns worked with the Highway 68 Corridor Coalition to gather input from citizens and publicly available data relating to safety and transportation issues along Highway 68 from Canby to Marshall, MN. Media Messages of Rural: Lessons from Minnesota

The goal of the Media Messages of Rural project was to examine the manner in which the metropolitan area media covers and reports events that occur in rural areas to the residents of Minnesota, and to gain a sense of how urban Minnesota media portrays the events and priorities of rural Minnesota. The focuses of the study were the St. Paul Pioneer Press and the Minneapolis Star Tribune. Articles from these sources were examined to locate evidence for the study. Economic Emergency Program: St. Cloud Household Refrigeration and Home Freezer Manufacturing Plant Closure (Electrolux)

On January 30, 2018, Electrolux announced the closure its manufacturing facility in St. Cloud, Minnesota. The plant currently has 860 employees. Their jobs will be lost once Electrolux completes its closure as planned in 2019. Electrolux plans to invest in its Tennessee and South Carolina plants. Upright freezer production will move to South Carolina. There will likely be few viable opportunities for local workers at the Electrolux facility to re-locate to South Carolina. St. Cloud area decision-makers will benefit from timely information regarding the potential economic impact of the closure. In response, University of Minnesota Extension and the St. Cloud State University School of Public Affairs Research Institute have prepared this economic emergency report.
