    Magnetic-field-induced electronic instability of Weyl-like fermions in compressed black phosphorus

    Revealing the role of Coulomb interaction in topological semimetals with Dirac/Weyl-like band dispersion shapes a new frontier in condensed matter physics. Topological node-line semimetals (TNLSMs), anticipated as a fertile ground for exploring electronic correlation effects due to the anisotropy associated with their node-line structure, have recently attracted considerable attention. In this study, we report an experimental observation for correlation effects in TNLSMs realized by black phosphorus (BP) under hydrostatic pressure. By performing a combination of nuclear magnetic resonance measurements and band calculations on compressed BP, a magnetic-field-induced electronic instability of Weyl-like fermions is identified under an external magnetic field parallel to the so-called nodal ring in the reciprocal space. Anomalous spin fluctuations serving as the fingerprint of electronic instability are observed at low temperatures, and they are observed to maximize at approximately 1.0 GPa. This study presents compressed BP as a realistic material platform for exploring the rich physics in strongly coupled Weyl-like fermions.Comment: 10 pages, 4 figure

    Parametric Analysis and Optimization for Thermal Efficiency Improvement in a Turbocharged Diesel Engine with Peak Cylinder Pressure Constraints

    While the original equipment manufacturers are developing engines that can withstand higher PCP, the methodology to maximize the thermal efficiency gain with different PCP limits is still not well-known or documented in the literature. This study aims to provide guidance on how to co-optimize air system parameters, compression ratio, and intake valve closing (IVC) timing of heavy-duty turbocharged diesel engines to enhance thermal efficiency with peak cylinder pressure (PCP) constraints. In this study, a one-dimensional turbocharged engine model is established and validated by experimental data. The effects of turbocharger efficiency, boost pressure, high-pressure exhaust gas recirculation (HP EGR) ratio, compression ratio (CR), and IVC timing on diesel engine efficiency are assessed under PCP constraints through parametric analysis. The results indicate that for enhancing engine thermal efficiency under limited PCP, an increment in boost pressure and CR, and late IVC timing compared to baseline is required. By multiple parameter optimization, the best parameter combination under different PCP constraints is proposed. At a PCP limit of 20 MPa, the combination of a compression ratio of 18.57, boost pressure of 298 kPa, and IVC timing of −95.2 °CA ATDC yields a 1.56% (absolute value) improvement in ITEn over the baseline condition. Raising the PCP limits from 20 MPa to 25 MPa requires increasing the compression ratio to 21.92, boost pressure to 308 kPa, and delaying the intake valve closing timing to −88.7 °CA ATDC, which results in an absolute improvement of 0.86% in ITEn. Baseline engine configuration is updated accordingly to validate the thermal efficiency improvement strategy at a 25 MPa PCP limitation. Experimental results demonstrate a 2.2% (absolute value) improvement in brake thermal efficiency and 1.98% (absolute value) improvement in overall energy efficiency

    Cognitive AmBC-NOMA IoV-MTS networks with IQI : reliability and security analysis

    Internet-of-Vehicle (IoV) enabled Maritime Transportation Systems (MTS) communication is anticipated to support ultra-reliable and low latency, diverse quality-of-service (QoS) and large-scale connectivities. To meet such stringent demands, a cognitive ambient backscatter non-orthogonal multiple access (C-AmBC-NOMA) IoV-MTS network is proposed. We explore the reliable and secure performance of the proposed C-AmBC-NOMA IoV-MTS network with in-phase and quadrature phase imbalance (IQI) at radio-frequency (RF) front-ends and the existence of an eavesdropper. In particular, the analytical expressions on the outage probability (OP) and intercept probability (IP) are obtained after a series of calculations. For a deeper understanding, we discuss the asymptotic behavior of OPs in the high signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) region, the diversity orders of OPs, and IPs in the high main-to-eavesdropper ratio (MER) regime. The results of Monte-Carlo simulation and a series of corresponding theoretical analysis show that: i) As the SNR approaches infinity, the OPs tend to be fixed non-negative values, indicating that the diversity orders of the OPs have error floors; ii) When the MER approaches infinity, the IPs of legitimate users decrease continuously, while the IP of backscatter device (BD) increases; iii) Compared with the system performance under ideal condition, the system performance is less reliable under IQI condition, but the security performance is enhanced; iv) By carefully selecting the system parameters, a trade-off can be achieved between reliability and security. © 2000-2011 IEEE

    Quartz-Enhanced Photothermal-Acoustic Spectroscopy for Trace Gas Analysis

    A crystal quartz tuning fork (QTF) was used as a detector to collect and amplify laser-induced photoacoustic and photothermal waves simultaneously for trace chemical analysis. A wavelength modulation technique was applied to the proposed quartz-enhanced photothermal-acoustic spectroscopy (QEPTAS) to improve the detection signal-to-noise ratio. The QTF detector was exposed to the illumination of a near-infrared distributed feedback laser at distances of 1 m and 2 m to evaluate the QEPTAS sensor performance. The QEPTAS sensor performance was determined by detecting water vapor in ambient air using a near-infrared distributed feedback laser with a power of ~10 mW and a wavelength of 1.39 μm. With an optimized modulation depth of 0.47 cm−1, the normalized noise equivalent absorption (NNEA) coefficients of 8.4 × 10−7 W·cm−1·Hz−1/2 and 3.7 × 10−6 W·cm−1·Hz−1/2 were achieved for a distance of 1 m and 2 m, respectively. The developed QEPTAS technique reduces the requirements for laser beam quality, resulting in a simple but robust sensor structure and demonstrates the ability of remote sensing of gas concentrations

    Clinicopathological characteristics and prognostic factors of pulmonary large cell neuroendocrine carcinoma: A large population‐based analysis

    Background The study was conducted to compare the clinicopathological characteristics, survival outcomes, and metastatic patterns between pulmonary large cell neuroendocrine carcinoma (LCNEC) and other non‐small cell lung cancer (ONSCLC), and to identify the prognostic factors of LCNEC. Methods Data of patients diagnosed with LCNEC and ONSCLC from 2004 to 2014 were obtained from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results dataset. Pearson’s chi‐square tests were used to compare differences in clinicopathological characteristics. The Kaplan–Meier method was used for survival analysis. A propensity score was used for matching and a Cox proportional hazards model was used for multivariate and subgroup analyses. Results A total of 2368 LCNEC cases and 231 672 ONSCLC cases were identified. LCNEC incidence increased slightly over time. Except for marital status, LCNEC patients had obviously different biological features to ONSCLC patients. Survival analysis showed that LCNEC had poorer outcomes than ONSCLC. Multivariate analysis revealed that female gender, black race, surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy were protective factors for LCNEC. Matched subgroup analysis further demonstrated that most subgroup factors favored ONSCLC, especially in early stage. Early‐stage LCNEC patients had a higher risk of lung cancer‐specific death than early‐stage ONSCLC patients. Moreover, metastatic patterns were different between LCNEC and ONSCLC. LCNEC patients with isolated liver metastasis or combined invasion to other organs had poorer survival rates. Conclusions LCNEC has totally different clinicopathological characteristics and metastatic patterns to ONSCLC. LCNEC also has poorer survival outcomes, primarily because of isolated liver metastasis or combined invasion to other organs. Most subgroup factors are adverse factors for LCNEC
