Optimal design of nonuniform FIR transmultiplexer using semi-infinite programming
This paper considers an optimum nonuniform FIR transmultiplexer design problem subject to specifications in the frequency domain. Our objective is to minimize the sum of the ripple energy for all the individual filters, subject to the specifications on amplitude and aliasing distortions, and to the passband and stopband specifications for the individual filters. This optimum nonuniform transmultiplexer design problem can be formulated as a quadratic semi-infinite programming problem. The dual parametrization algorithm is extended to this nonuniform transmultiplexer design problem. If the lengths of the filters are sufficiently long and the set of decimation integers is compatible, then a solution exists. Since the problem is formulated as a convex problem, if a solution exists, then the solution obtained is unique and the local solution is a global minimum
From Skew-Cyclic Codes to Asymmetric Quantum Codes
We introduce an additive but not -linear map from
to and exhibit some of its interesting
structural properties. If is a linear -code, then is an
additive -code. If is an additive cyclic code then
is an additive quasi-cyclic code of index . Moreover, if is a module
-cyclic code, a recently introduced type of code which will be
explained below, then is equivalent to an additive cyclic code if is
odd and to an additive quasi-cyclic code of index if is even. Given any
-code , the code is self-orthogonal under the trace
Hermitian inner product. Since the mapping preserves nestedness, it can be
used as a tool in constructing additive asymmetric quantum codes.Comment: 16 pages, 3 tables, submitted to Advances in Mathematics of

Critical Behavior of Frustrated Josephson Junction Arrays with Bond Disorder
The scaling behavior of the current-voltage () characteristics of a
two-dimensional proximity-coupled Josephson junction array (JJA) with quenched
bond disorder was investigated for frustrations , 1/3, 2/5, and 1/2. For
all these frustrations including 1/5 and 2/5 where a strongly first-order phase
transition is expected in the absence of disorder, the characteristics
exhibited a good scaling behavior. The critical exponent indicates that
bond disorder may drive the phase transitions of frustrated JJA's to be
continuous but not into the Ising universality class, contrary to what was
observed in Monte Carlo simulations. The dynamic critical exponent for
JJA's was found to be only 0.60 - 0.77.Comment: RevTeX4, 4 pages, 4 figures, the manuscript is replaced with the

Linguistic evaluation of support verb constructions by OpenLogos and google translate
This paper presents a systematic human evaluation of translations of English support verb constructions produced by a rule-based machine translation (RBMT) system (OpenLogos) and a statistical machine translation (SMT) system (Google Translate) for five languages: French, German, Italian, Portuguese and Spanish. We classify support verb constructions by means of their syntactic structure and semantic behavior and present a qualitative analysis of their translation errors. The study aims to verify how machine translation (MT) systems translate fine-grained linguistic phenomena, and how well-equipped they are to produce high-quality translation. Another goal of the linguistically motivated quality analysis of SVC raw output is to reinforce the need for better system hybridization, which leverages the strengths of RBMT to the benefit of SMT, especially in improving the translation of multiword units. Taking multiword units into account, we propose an effective method to achieve MT hybridization based on the integration of semantico-syntactic knowledge into SMT.info:eu-repo/semantics/acceptedVersio
Phase stability analysis in Fe-Pt and Co-Pt alloy systems: An augmented space study
We have studied the problem of phase stability in Fe-Pt and Co-Pt alloy
systems. We have used the orbital peeling technique in the conjunction of
augmented space recursion based on the tight binding linear orbital method as
the method for the calculation of pair interaction energies. In particular, we
have generalized our earlier technique to take into account of magnetic effects
for the cases where the magnetic transition is higher than the order disorder
chemical transition temperature as in the case of CoPt. Our theoretical
results obtained within this framework successfully reproduce the
experimentally observed trends.Comment: 17 pages, 9 Figures. Accepted for publication in Journal of Physics :

Semiconductor cluster beams: One and two color ionization studies of Six and Gex
Supersonic beams of clusters of Si and Ge atoms have been produced by laser vaporization followed by supersonic expansion in a helium carrier. The cluster beams were characterized by F2(7.9 eV) and ArF(6.4 eV) excimer laser ionization accompanied by time-of-flight mass analysis. In addition, the feasibility of a resonant two-photon ionization (R2PI) spectroscopic study was explored by two-color experiments involving initial excitation with the second (2.36 eV) and third (3.54 eV) harmonics of the Nd:YAG followed by excimer laser ionization. All two-photon ionization processes were found to produce extensive fragmentation of the larger clusters. The observed fragmentation pattern for the silicon and germanium clusters were remarkably similar to each other, but drastically different from that seen for metal clusters in the same apparatus. Unlike metal clusters, which tend to lose one atom at a time, these semiconductor clusters appear to fragment by a fission process, the daughter ions falling almost exclusively in the size range from 6 to 11 atoms. Time delay studies in the two-color experiments established that clusters of both Si and Ge have excited electronic states with lifetimes of approximately 100 ns. This again is dramatically different from the behavior found with metal clusters, and indicates the feasibility of R2PI spectroscopy on these cold semiconductor particles. The existence of such long-lived excited states indicates that there is probably an energy gap between the band of electronic states being excited and the ground electronic state
