Games in Patavium

The article discusses the text of Tacitus, Ann., 16. 21. 1, mentioning the ludi cetasti celebrated in Padua, and the enigmatic inscription from Padua, CIL, V, 2787 = ILS, 5202, also referring to these games. The paper gives a detailed account of the history of the interpretation of these two texts from the erudites of the Renaissance to our days, and thus also constitutes a contribution to the history of antiquarian and epigraphical studies.Les jeux à Patavium. L’article traite de l’interprétation du texte de Tacite, Ann., 16, 21, 1, mentionnant les ludi cetasti, qui ont été célébrés à Padoue, et de l’inscription énigmatique de Padoue, CIL, V, 2787 = ILS, 5202, qui mentionne ces mêmes jeux. L’article présente une étude détaillée de l’interprétation de ces textes depuis les érudits de la Renaissance jusqu’à nos jours et de cette manière il constitue aussi une contribution à l’histoire des recherches archéologiques et épigraphiques.Linderski Jerzy.
