    The Viscoelasticity Model of Corn Straw under the Different Moisture Contents

    Viscoelastic model of corn straw, based on different moisture contents, is set up to characterise the deformation through three-point bending test. The model contains a linear elastic element, a damping element, and a nonlinear elastic element. The parameters of the model are determined according to the features of three-point bending test curve and characteristic of the model. The relationships between mechanical properties, energy absorption behavior of corn stalk, and moisture content have been, respectively, analysed. And regression analysis and curve fitting have been conducted based on various parameters and moisture contents with Matlab. These parameters provide the basis for straw crushing equipment design

    Factors related to children’s caries: a structural equation modeling approach

    BACKGROUND: Dental caries among preschool children is highly prevalent in many less-developed countries. METHODS: A model which explored the factors related to children’s dental caries was tested in this study using structural equation modeling. Caregivers of children aged 5 years were surveyed on their socioeconomic status, and their oral health knowledge, attitudes and practices. In addition, information on their children’s oral health practices, dental insurance and dental service utilization were collected. Examination of caries was conducted on all children who returned fully completed questionnaires. RESULTS: The results showed that socioeconomic factors influenced children’s oral health practices through the impact of caregivers’ oral health knowledge and practices; that caregivers’ oral health knowledge affected children’s oral health practices through the influence of caregivers’ oral health attitudes and practices; and finally, that children’s oral health practices were linked directly to their caries. CONCLUSION: The findings have important applications for promoting policies aimed at advancing children’s oral health

    Imprinting and Promoter Usage of Insulin-Like Growth Factor II in Twin Discordant Placenta

    Case reports from infant twins suggest that abnormal genomic imprinting may be one of the important causes of twin discordance, but it is unknown whether abnormal genomic imprinting occurs in the placenta. Therefore, we sought to determine the relationship between the imprinting of insulin-like growth factor II (IGF-II) in placenta and twin discordance. We analyzed the imprinting and promoter usage of IGF-II in placenta of normal twins (T0 group), weight discordance (T1 group), and phenotype discordance (T2 group). We found the incidence of loss of imprinting (LOI) for IGF-II was higher in the T2 group than that in the T0 and T1 groups, while there was no difference between T0 and T1 groups. The transcripts of promoter 3 were lower in the T2 group than in the T0 and T1 groups, and lower in the twin placenta with LOI than in those with normal imprinting. Our findings indicate that the promoter 3 specific LOI of the IGF-II gene may be closely related with phenotype discordance, not weight discordance

    Diabetic peripheral neuropathy(DPN) is one of the common chronic complications in diabetic patients. Patients with DPN present variable symptoms and physical findings, ranging from asymptomatic loss of tendon reflex to severe painful neuropathy, even lead to disability. It seriously lower the quality of diabetic patients’ life. Because of its etiology and pathogenesis were not yet fully understood, the treatment has been tending to diversification. Strict glycemic control is a precondition, then we shuold focus on the elimination of the etiology, relieve the symptoms, prevention and treatment the complications.Such as improving vascular function, adjusting the metabolic disorders, relieving pain and other methods. Due to the limitations of western drug treatment, also, non-drug treatment is easy to operate with clear effect and little side effects, current studies of non-drug treatment tend to increase gradually, such as electric acupuncture therapy, autologous bone marrow stem cells implantation, hyperbaric oxygen therapy and other methods.The combination of drug and non-drug treatment can improve the curative effect of DPN. This review summarize the progress of drug and non-drug treatment for DPN in the recent years.糖尿病周围神经病变(diabetic peripheral neuropathy,DPN)是糖尿病的常见慢性并发症之一,严重者可致残疾。其发病机制复杂,是多种因素相互作用,最终导致的神经细胞损伤和神经纤维缺血性脱髓鞘。其治疗方法多样,但是缺乏特异性。随着对该病发病机制的深入认识,研究针对致病因子的靶向药物方兴未艾。临床以药物治疗为主,在控制血糖的基础上进行营养神经、改善循环、纠正代谢紊乱、抗氧化、镇痛等治疗。非药物治疗,如高压氧、超短波、电针等,因其操作简单,疗效确切,副作用小等优点,临床应用也越来越广泛。本文就近几年DPN的药物和非药物治疗进展予以综述,旨在为临床治疗DPN提供参考

    The Dark Energy Survey Data Management System

    The Dark Energy Survey collaboration will study cosmic acceleration with a 5000 deg2 griZY survey in the southern sky over 525 nights from 2011-2016. The DES data management (DESDM) system will be used to process and archive these data and the resulting science ready data products. The DESDM system consists of an integrated archive, a processing framework, an ensemble of astronomy codes and a data access framework. We are developing the DESDM system for operation in the high performance computing (HPC) environments at NCSA and Fermilab. Operating the DESDM system in an HPC environment offers both speed and flexibility. We will employ it for our regular nightly processing needs, and for more compute-intensive tasks such as large scale image coaddition campaigns, extraction of weak lensing shear from the full survey dataset, and massive seasonal reprocessing of the DES data. Data products will be available to the Collaboration and later to the public through a virtual-observatory compatible web portal. Our approach leverages investments in publicly available HPC systems, greatly reducing hardware and maintenance costs to the project, which must deploy and maintain only the storage, database platforms and orchestration and web portal nodes that are specific to DESDM. In Fall 2007, we tested the current DESDM system on both simulated and real survey data. We used Teragrid to process 10 simulated DES nights (3TB of raw data), ingesting and calibrating approximately 250 million objects into the DES Archive database. We also used DESDM to process and calibrate over 50 nights of survey data acquired with the Mosaic2 camera. Comparison to truth tables in the case of the simulated data and internal crosschecks in the case of the real data indicate that astrometric and photometric data quality is excellent.Comment: To be published in the proceedings of the SPIE conference on Astronomical Instrumentation (held in Marseille in June 2008).     The Emergence of Chromosomally Located blaCTX-M-55 in Salmonella From Foodborne Animals in China

    The emergence and increase in prevalence of resistance to cephalosporins amongst isolates of Salmonella from food animals imposes a public health threat. The aim of the present study was to investigate the prevalence and characteristics of CTX-M-producing Salmonella isolates from raw meat and food animals. 27 of 152 (17.76%) Salmonella isolates were ESBL-positive including 21/70 (30%) from food animals and 6/82 (7.32%) from raw meat. CTX-M-55 was the most prevalent ESBL type observed (12/27, 44.44%). 7 of 12 CTX-M-55-positive Salmonella isolates were Salmonella Indiana, 2 were Salmonella Typhimurium, 2 were Salmonella Chester, and the remaining isolate was not typeable. Eight CTX-M-55-positive Salmonella isolates were highly resistant to fluoroquinolones (MICCIP = 64 ug/mL) and co-harbored aac(6')-Ib-cr and oqxAB. Most of the CTX-M-55 positive isolates (11/12) carried blaCTX-M-55 genes on the chromosome, with the remaining isolate carrying this gene on a transferable 280 kb IncHI2 plasmid. A chromosomal blaCTX-M-55 gene from one isolate transferred onto a 250 kb IncHI2 plasmid which was subsequently conjugated into recipient strain J53. PFGE and MLST profiles showed a wide range of strain types were carrying blaCTX-M-55. Our study demonstrates the emergence and prevalence of foodborne Salmonella harboring a chromosomally located blaCTX-M-55 in China. The co-existence of PMQR genes with blaCTX-M-55 in Salmonella isolates suggests co-selection and dissemination of resistance to both fluoroquinolones and cephalosporins in Salmonella via the food chain in China represents a public health concern

    Agromyces chromiiresistens sp. nov., Novosphingobium album sp. nov., Sphingobium arseniciresistens sp. nov., Sphingomonas pollutisoli sp. nov., and Salinibacterium metalliresistens sp. nov.: five new members of Microbacteriaceae and Sphingomonadaceae from polluted soil

    There are many unidentified microbes in polluted soil needing to be explored and nominated to benefit the study of microbial ecology. In this study, a taxonomic research was carried out on five bacterial strains which were isolated and cultivated from polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, and heavy metals polluted soil of an abandoned coking plant. Phylogenetical analysis showed that they belonged to the phyla Proteobacteria and Actinobacteria, and their 16S rRNA gene sequence identities were lower than 98.5% to any known and validly nominated bacterial species, suggesting that they were potentially representing new species. Using polyphasic taxonomic approaches, the five strains were classified as new species of the families Microbacteriaceae and Sphingomonadaceae. Genome sizes of the five strains ranged from 3.07 to 6.60 Mb, with overall DNA G+C contents of 63.57–71.22 mol%. The five strains had average nucleotide identity of 72.38–87.38% and digital DNA-DNA hybridization of 14.0–34.2% comparing with their closely related type strains, which were all below the thresholds for species delineation, supporting these five strains as novel species. Based on the phylogenetic, phylogenomic, and phenotypic characterizations, the five novel species are proposed as Agromyces chromiiresistens (type strain H3Y2-19aT = CGMCC 1.61332T), Salinibacterium metalliresistens (type strain H3M29-4T = CGMCC 1.61335T), Novosphingobium album (type strain H3SJ31-1T = CGMCC 1.61329T), Sphingomonas pollutisoli (type strain H39-1-10T = CGMCC 1.61325T), and Sphingobium arseniciresistens (type strain H39-3-25T = CGMCC 1.61326T). Comparative genome analysis revealed that the species of the family Sphingomonadaceae represented by H39-1-10T, H39-3-25T, and H3SJ31-1T possessed more functional protein-coding genes for the degradation of aromatic pollutants than the species of the family Microbacteriaceae represented by H3Y2-19aT and H3M29-4T. Furthermore, their capacities of resisting heavy metals and metabolizing aromatic compounds were investigated. The results indicated that strains H3Y2-19aT and H39-3-25T were robustly resistant to chromate (VI) and/or arsenite (III). Strains H39-1-10T and H39-3-25T grew on aromatic compounds, including naphthalene, as carbon sources even in the presence of chromate (VI) and arsenite (III). These features reflected their adaptation to the polluted soil environment
