    Completing incomplete cohort fertility schedules

    Get PDF
This paper develops a simple age-period-cohort framework in completing incomplete cohort fertility schedules, and makes full use of 1917--2005 U.S. data to obtain robust outcomes. Empirically, we indicate that the period effect is the key to transforming a fertility level into a fertility schedule. Accompanied by the smoothed version of tempo-variance-adjusted total fertility rates proposed in Kohler and Philipov (2001), we approximate the cohort fertility schedules fairly well and the estimates of all distributional parameters can be thereby obtained. Our approach is easy to implement and the data requirement is relatively light, indicating that the proposed method is readily applicable to countries whose data lengths are insufficiently long, and would be helpful for further empirical investigation of the relationship between cohort fertility behavior and other cohort-specific socioeconomic factors.APC model, cohort fertility schedule, fertility forecast

The purpose of this study is to investigate the parameters of displacement. velocity, and acceleration of water polo over arm throwing. Six water polo athletes participated in this study. Kwon 3D was utilized to analyze arm movement of water polo shooting, including the displacement, velocity, and acceleration of wrist, elbow, shoulder, and ball. The results indicated, first, the displacement of arm movement was quadratic polynomial at a frequency of 0.6 second with maximum distance of 130.97 cm for ball, 117.17 cm for wrist, 107.04 cm for elbow, and 94.22 cm for shoulder. Second, the velocity of arm movement was a cubic curve with maximum speed of 25.368 m/s for ball, 20.092 m/s for wrist, 19.732 rn/s for elbow, and 23.846 m/s for shoulder. Moreover, the change of maximum velocity of ball and wrist occurred after 1.5 seconds, while the velocity of elbow and shoulder both decreased for 0.5 seconds. Third, the acceleration of arm movement showed a 6th order polynomial at a frequency of 0.2 second with maximum acceleration of 505.082 m/s2 for ball, 545.526 m/s2 for wrist, 401.82 m/s2 for elbow, and 568.26 m/s2 for shoulder

Effects of Curriculum Design on Studentsā€™ Creative Potential Developing ā€” A Case Study on Students in the Department of Business Management

    Get PDF
The rapid advance of science technology and civilization has resulted in peopleā€™s activities being more complicated as various new problems are likely to occur at any time. Problem-solving abilities therefore become a basic competence to survive in modern societies. In the problem-solving process, the development of creativity is required to break through dilemmas. School education aims to cultivate studentsā€™ decision-making and problem-solving competence. Nonetheless, the educational approaches and contents in Taiwan stress too much on mastery learning, and ignore the development of curiosity and creative potential. Aiming at the students in the department of business management in national universities in Taiwan, total 300 copies of questionnaires are distributed, and 187 valid copies are retrieved, with the retrieval rate 62%, in which each retrieved copy is regarded as a valid sample. The research findings show that Curriculum Design presents partially positive effects on Fluency, Flexibility, Originality, and Elaboration in Creative Potential Developing and Background Variables reveal significant moderating effects on the correlations between Curriculum Design and Creative Potential Developing

THE EFFECT OF TENNIS RACKET STRING VIBRATION ABSORBER PLACEMENT ON TENNIS RACKET VIBRATIONS

The purpose of this research was to analyze the vibration effect of tennis racket caused by impact on different locative vibration absorber and locations. In this experiment, The tennis racket was fixed and kept the face horizontalized to the ground with 50 Ib on strings. A tennis ball was dropped from one meter height to impact three locations of the racket. The different locative vibration absorber was fixed on the racket. It was installed an accelerometer to capture the vibration signal of the handle of the racket. After the experiment, the data was used logarithmic decrement to calculate damping ratio. It was illustrated when the vibration absorber in Back and Tip to have obvious effect. But in Side, it could not effectively decrease the vibration compared with the racket without absorber

THE ANALYSES OF KNEE INTERNAL FORCE DURING PASSIVE REPETITIVE ISOKINETIC PLYOMETRIC TRAINING

    Get PDF
Passive Repetitive Isokinetic (PRI) training was a novel method for improving sport performance (Chiang Liu et al, 2005). As you know it can comprehensively advance muscular power characteristic of an athlete (Hsiang-Hsin Wang et al, 2005). But did you ever think that PRP training program might cause sport injury. It is not clear how much training effect would cause injury. Especially knee joint would sustain the most internal force for lower extremity. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of plymeric training on overuse injuries of the knee. The hypothesis is that the torque of knee joint variables will be greatly affected by injury

THE EFFECT OF PLYOMETRIC TRAINING FOR LOWER EXTREMITIES STRENGTH AND POWER IN HIGH-SCHOOL FEMALE BASKETBALL PLAYERS

Plyometric training is one of very prevailing training methods. It has its unique effect compared to other training methods. Having targeted 16 girl basketball players in senior high school, a set of box horse curriculum was designed with polymetric training for the study. The players were randomly divided into experimental groups (respectively with 30, 40, and 50 cm of box horse) and control group, four players for each group. Except for the control group, the other three groups had to receive 12 weeks of box horse training in addition to general basketball course training. The results of the study showed: Based on the plyometric training designed and applied to senior high school girl basketball players, this study shows that either CMJ or CJ has its effect

BETTER POSTURAL CONTROL DURING ACCURATE SHOOTING IN ELITE FEMALE BASKETBALL PLAYERS

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the differences of postural control (PC) during accurate and inaccurate shooting in elite female basketball players. 21 female professional basketball players recruited as subjects. The PC was evaluated by the Accusway as sway radius, velocity, radial and 95% area of the center of pressure (COP) during standard penalty line shooting. The results showed that the COP sway area during accurate shooting was significantly smaller than during inaccurate shooting (74.0 Ā± 37.9 vs. 110.6 Ā± 49.1, p < .05). Moreover, no significant differences were found between situations in the COP radius and velocity. This study found that during the accurate shooting, elite female basketball player had better PC which demonstrated that significant smaller COP sway area than inaccurate shooting
