    Improve the effectiveness of the opinion retrieval and opinion polarity classification

    Opinion retrieval is a document retrieving and ranking process. A relevant document must be relevant to the query and contain opinions toward the query. Opinion polarity classification is an extension of opinion retrieval. It classifies the retrieved document as positive, negative or mixed, according to the overall polarity of the query relevant opinions in the document. This paper (1) proposes several new techniques that help improve the effectiveness of an existing opinion retrieval system; (2) presents a novel two-stage model to solve the opinion polarity classification problem. In this model, every query relevant opinionated sentence in a document retrieved by our opinion retrieval system is classified as positive or negative respectively by a SVM classifier. Then a second classifier determines the overall opinion polarity of the document. Experimental results show that both the opinion retrieval system with the proposed opinion retrieval techniques and the polarity classification model outperformed the best reported systems respectively.     Watermarking for Neural Radiation Fields by Invertible Neural Network

    To protect the copyright of the 3D scene represented by the neural radiation field, the embedding and extraction of the neural radiation field watermark are considered as a pair of inverse problems of image transformations. A scheme for protecting the copyright of the neural radiation field is proposed using invertible neural network watermarking, which utilizes watermarking techniques for 2D images to achieve the protection of the 3D scene. The scheme embeds the watermark in the training image of the neural radiation field through the forward process in the invertible network and extracts the watermark from the image rendered by the neural radiation field using the inverse process to realize the copyright protection of both the neural radiation field and the 3D scene. Since the rendering process of the neural radiation field can cause the loss of watermark information, the scheme incorporates an image quality enhancement module, which utilizes a neural network to recover the rendered image and then extracts the watermark. The scheme embeds a watermark in each training image to train the neural radiation field and enables the extraction of watermark information from multiple viewpoints.     Hybrid-Dimensional Visualization and Interaction - Integrating 2D and 3D Visualization with Semi-Immersive Navigation Techniques

    The integration of 2D visualization and navigation techniques has reached a state where the potential for improvements is relatively low. With 3D-stereoscopy-compatible technology now commonplace not only in research but also in many households, the need for better 3D visualization and navigation techniques has increased. Nevertheless, for the representation of many abstract data such as networks, 2D visualization remains the primary choice. But often such abstract data is associated with spatial data, thereby increasing the need for combining both 2D and 3D visualization and navigation techniques. Here, we discuss a new hybrid-dimensional approach integrating 2D and 3D (stereoscopic) visualization as well as navigation into a semi-immersive virtual environment. This approach is compared to classical 6DOF navigation techniques. Three scientific as well as educational applications are presented: an educational car model, a plant simulation data exploration, and a cellular model with network exploration, each of these combining spatial with associated abstract data.     Steganography for Neural Radiance Fields by Backdooring

    The utilization of implicit representation for visual data (such as images, videos, and 3D models) has recently gained significant attention in computer vision research. In this letter, we propose a novel model steganography scheme with implicit neural representation. The message sender leverages Neural Radiance Fields (NeRF) and its viewpoint synthesis capabilities by introducing a viewpoint as a key. The NeRF model generates a secret viewpoint image, which serves as a backdoor. Subsequently, we train a message extractor using overfitting to establish a one-to-one mapping between the secret message and the secret viewpoint image. The sender delivers the trained NeRF model and the message extractor to the receiver over the open channel, and the receiver utilizes the key shared by both parties to obtain the rendered image in the secret view from the NeRF model, and then obtains the secret message through the message extractor. The inherent complexity of the viewpoint information prevents attackers from stealing the secret message accurately. Experimental results demonstrate that the message extractor trained in this letter achieves high-capacity steganography with fast performance, achieving a 100\% accuracy in message extraction. Furthermore, the extensive viewpoint key space of NeRF ensures the security of the steganography scheme.Comment: 6 pages, 7 figure

    3D printed architected hollow sphere foams with low-frequency phononic band gaps

    We experimentally and numerically investigate elastic wave propagation in a class of lightweight architected materials composed of hollow spheres and binders. Elastic wave transmission tests demonstrate the existence of vibration mitigation capability in the proposed architected foams, which is validated against the numerically predicted phononic band gap. We further describe that the phononic band gap properties can be significantly altered through changing hollow sphere thickness and binder size in the architected foams. Importantly, our results indicate that by increasing the stiffness contrast between hollow spheres and binders, the phononic band gaps are broadened and shifted toward a low-frequency range. At the threshold stiffness contrast of 50, the proposed architected foam requires only a volume fraction of 10.8% while exhibiting an omnidirectional band gap size exceeding 130%. The proposed design paradigm and physical mechanisms are robust and applicable to architected foams with other topologies, thus providing new opportunities to design phononic metamaterials for low-frequency vibration control

    Assessing perceived participation among older adults total hip arthroplasty and total knee arthroplasty patients six months post-surgery: a cross-sectional study

    AimsThis research sought to assess the perceived levels of participation and autonomy in senior patients who had received total hip arthroplasty (THA) or total knee arthroplasty (TKA) in Hangzhou, China. Furthermore, the study aimed to identify the factors linked to these outcomes.Study designThis investigation will utilize a cross-sectional study design to assess perceived participation and autonomy among older adults total hip arthroplasty (THA) and total knee arthroplasty (TKA) patients. The research was conducted in Hangzhou, China, at a tertiary hospital.MethodsConvenient sampling was utilized to select 139 patients who underwent THA or TKA between March 2022 and March 2023 and met the inclusion criteria at a tertiary hospital in Hangzhou. The Impact on Participation and Autonomy Questionnaire, Hip/Knee Injury and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score (HOOS/KOOS), 5-Item Geriatric Depression Scale, Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support, and Elders Health Empowerment Scale were used to assess perceived participation, hip/knee-related symptoms and functional restrictions, depression symptoms, social support, and health empowerment.ResultsThe mean score for perceived participation and autonomy was 22.554 (SD: 13.042). The mean scores for participation in indoor autonomy, outdoor autonomy, family roles, and social relations were 0.654 (SD: 0.608), 1.324 (SD: 0.792), 1.053 (SD: 0.657), and 0.664 (SD: 0.542), respectively. Negative correlations were observed between perceived participation/autonomy scores and HOOS/KOOS, social support, and health empowerment scores. Conversely, a positive correlation was found between perceived participation/autonomy scores and depression scores. The detrimental effect of HOOS/KOOS, social support, and health empowerment scores on perceived participation and autonomy was notable, while the impact of depressive symptoms was comparatively minor.ConclusionOlder Chinese patients, at first six months post THA/TKA surgery, reported higher levels of perceived participation compared to individuals with other conditions, such as stroke patients. Functional limitations resulting from hip/knee-related symptoms, as well as social support and health empowerment, emerged as significant influencing factors for perceived participation and autonomy. This research enhances our comprehension of the elements influencing perceived participation among older adults individuals who have undergone THA/TKA procedures

    Cell-free miRNAs may indicate diagnosis and docetaxel sensitivity of tumor cells in malignant effusions

    <p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>Circulating cell-free microRNAs have been identified as potential cancer biomarkers. However, the existence and the potential application of cell-free miRNAs in effusion samples are still uncertain. In order to explore the potential role of cell-free miRNA in malignant effusions, we selected 22 miRNAs differentially expressed in the serum of lung cancer patients and studied their expression levels in body cavity effusion samples.</p> <p>Methods</p> <p>We measured the expression of 22 miRNAs using qRT-PCR in two samples, which were pooled with 18 malignant and 12 benign effusions, respectively. After discarding 9 lowly expressed miRNAs, a panel of 13 miRNAs were measured in 29 samples (benign n = 11, malignant n = 18). We also carried out a WST-8 test to evaluate the docetaxel sensitivity of tumor cells directly isolated from 15 malignant effusions.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>We compared the miRNA expression levels between benign and malignant effusions using a Mann-Whitney U test and found miR-24, miR-26a and miR-30d were expressed differently between the two groups (<it>P </it>= 0.006, 0.021 and 0.011, respectively). Cells isolated from effusions rich in cell-free miR-152 were more sensitive to docetaxel (r = 0.60, <it>P </it>= 0.016).</p> <p>Conclusions</p> <p>Collectively, our study demonstrated that cell-free miRNAs in the supernatant of effusions may aid in the diagnosis of malignancy and predict chemosensitivity to docetaxel.</p
