On Basis Constructions in Finite Element Exterior Calculus
We give a systematic and self-contained account of the construction of
geometrically decomposed bases and degrees of freedom in finite element
exterior calculus. In particular, we elaborate upon a previously overlooked
basis for one of the families of finite element spaces, which is of interest
for implementations. Moreover, we give details for the construction of
isomorphisms and duality pairings between finite element spaces. These
structural results show, for example, how to transfer linear dependencies
between canonical spanning sets, or give a new derivation of the degrees of
freedom
Law for the Common Man: An Individual-Level Theory of Values, Expanded Rationality, and the Law
This article makes an admittedly bold attempt at outlining an analytical framework for addressing this question. Instead of looking at the legal implications of bounded rationality -- an exercise highly worthy in its own right -- this article advances a theory of expanded rationality. This theory retains the element of rationality in that people respond to incentives in an attempt to attain utility, and it does not question the observation that decision-making is often bounded due to various factors
The dynamic characteristics of a turbo-rotor simulator supported on gas-lubricated foil bearings. Part 2: Operation with heating and thermal gradients
A high speed rotor, supported by gas-lubricated foil bearings, is free from self-excited whirl and displays no loss of load capacity when vibrated at frequency equal to the rotational speed. It is demonstrated that in addition to tolerance of geometrical imperfections, misalignment and foreign particles, the foil bearing performs well at elevated temperatures and accommodates appreciable temperature gradients. The foil bearing is endowed with superior wipe-wear characteristics and the flexibility of the foil accounts not only for the stability of the foil bearing, but also for its accommodation of, and compensation for, distortion, contamination, and contact
