Representation of SO(3) Group by a Maximally Entangled State
A representation of the SO(3) group is mapped into a maximally entangled two
qubit state according to literatures. To show the evolution of the entangled
state, a model is set up on an maximally entangled electron pair, two electrons
of which pass independently through a rotating magnetic field. It is found that
the evolution path of the entangled state in the SO(3) sphere breaks an odd or
even number of times, corresponding to the double connectedness of the SO(3)
group. An odd number of breaks leads to an additional phase to the
entangled state, but an even number of breaks does not. A scheme to trace the
evolution of the entangled state is proposed by means of entangled photon pairs
and Kerr medium, allowing observation of the additional phase.Comment: 4 pages, 3 figure
Bubbles created from vacuum fluctuation
We show that the bubbles can be created from vacuum
fluctuation in certain De Sitter universe, so the space-time foam-like
structure might really be constructed from bubbles of in the
very early inflating phase of our universe. But whether such foam-like
structure persisted during the later evolution of the universe is a problem
unsolved now.Comment: 6 page
Growth and characteristics of type-II InAs/GaSb superlattice-based detectors
We report on growth and device performance of infrared photodetectors based on type II InAs/Ga(In)Sb strain layer
superlattices (SLs) using the complementary barrier infrared detector (CBIRD) design. The unipolar barriers on either side of the absorber in the CBIRD design in combination with the type-II InAs/GaSb superlattice material system are expected to outperform traditional III-V LWIR imaging technologies and offer significant advantages over the conventional II-VI material based FPAs. The innovative design of CBIRDS, low defect density material growth, and robust fabrication processes have resulted in the development of high performance long wave infrared (LWIR) focal plane arrays at JPL
Flow Equations for U_k and Z_k
By considering the gradient expansion for the wilsonian effective action S_k
of a single component scalar field theory truncated to the first two terms, the
potential U_k and the kinetic term Z_k, I show that the recent claim that
different expansion of the fluctuation determinant give rise to different
renormalization group equations for Z_k is incorrect. The correct procedure to
derive this equation is presented and the set of coupled differential equations
for U_k and Z_k is definitely established.Comment: 5 page
On the Connection Between Momentum Cutoff and Operator Cutoff Regularizations
Operator cutoff regularization based on the original Schwinger's proper-time
formalism is examined. By constructing a regulating smearing function for the
proper-time integration, we show how this regularization scheme simulates the
usual momentum cutoff prescription yet preserves gauge symmetry even in the
presence of the cutoff scales. Similarity between the operator cutoff
regularization and the method of higher (covariant) derivatives is also
observed. The invariant nature of the operator cutoff regularization makes it a
promising tool for exploring the renormalization group flow of gauge theories
in the spirit of Wilson-Kadanoff blocking transformation.Comment: 28 pages in plain TeX, no figures. revised and expande
The influence of structural defects on intra-granular critical currents of bulk MgB2
Bulk MgB2 samples were prepared under different synthesis conditions and
analyzed by scanning and transmission electron microscopy. The critical current
densities were determined from the magnetization versus magnetic field curves
of bulk and powder-dispersed-in-epoxy samples. Results show that through a slow
cooling process, the oxygen dissolved in bulk MgB2 at high synthesis
temperatures can segregate and form nanometer-sized coherent precipitates of
Mg(B,O)2 in the MgB2 matrix. Magnetization measurements indicate that these
precipitates act as effective flux pinning centers and therefore significantly
improve the intra-grain critical current density and its field dependence.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figures, to be published in IEE Transactions in Applied

Natural extensions and entropy of -continued fractions
We construct a natural extension for each of Nakada's -continued
fractions and show the continuity as a function of of both the entropy
and the measure of the natural extension domain with respect to the density
function . In particular, we show that, for all , the product of the entropy with the measure of the domain equals .
As a key step, we give the explicit relationship between the -expansion
of and of
Microwave performance of high-density bulk MgB2
We have performed microwave measurements on superconducting
hot-isostatically- pressed (HIPed) bulk MgB2 using a parallel-plate resonator
technique. The high density and strength of the HIPed material allowed
preparation of samples with mirror-like surfaces for microwave measurements.
The microwave surface resistance decreased by about 40% at 20 K when the
root-mean-square surface roughness was reduced from 220 nm to 110 nm through
surface-polishing and ion-milling. The surface resistance was independent of
surface microwave magnetic field at least up to 4 Oe and below 30 K. We
attribute this behavior, and the overall low surface resistance (~0.8 mOhms at
10 GHz and 20 K), to the high density of our samples and the absence of weak
links between grains
