An Ensemble-based Approach to Click-Through Rate Prediction for Promoted Listings at Etsy
Etsy is a global marketplace where people across the world connect to make,
buy and sell unique goods. Sellers at Etsy can promote their product listings
via advertising campaigns similar to traditional sponsored search ads.
Click-Through Rate (CTR) prediction is an integral part of online search
advertising systems where it is utilized as an input to auctions which
determine the final ranking of promoted listings to a particular user for each
query. In this paper, we provide a holistic view of Etsy's promoted listings'
CTR prediction system and propose an ensemble learning approach which is based
on historical or behavioral signals for older listings as well as content-based
features for new listings. We obtain representations from texts and images by
utilizing state-of-the-art deep learning techniques and employ multimodal
learning to combine these different signals. We compare the system to
non-trivial baselines on a large-scale real world dataset from Etsy,
demonstrating the effectiveness of the model and strong correlations between
offline experiments and online performance. The paper is also the first
technical overview to this kind of product in e-commerce context
Game Theoretic Analysis of Carbon Emission Reduction and Sales Promotion in Dyadic Supply Chain in Presence of Consumers’ Low-Carbon Awareness
The paper studies how the combination of the manufacturer’s carbon emission reduction and the retailer’s emission reduction relevant promotion impacts the performances of a dyadic supply chain in low-carbon environment. We consider three typical scenarios, that is, centralized and decentralized without or with side-payment. We compare measures of supply chain performances, such as profitabilities, emission reduction efficiencies, and effectiveness, in these scenarios. To improve chain-wide performances, a new side-payment contract is designed to coordinate the supply chain and numerical experiments are also conducted. We find the following. (1) In decentralized setting, the retailer will provide emission cutting allowance to the manufacturer only if their unit product profit margin is higher enough than the manufacturer’s, and the emission reduction level of per unit product is a monotonically increasing function with respect to the cost pooling proportion provided by the retailer; (2) the new side-payment contract can coordinate the dyadic supply chain successfully due to its integrating sales promotion effort and emission reduction input, which results in system pareto optimality under decentralized individual rationality but achieves a collective rationality effect in the centralized setting; (3) when without external force’s regulation, consumers’ low-carbon awareness is to enhance consumers’ utility and decrease profits of supply chain firms
Experimental study of the effect of drilling pipe on vortex-induced vibration of drilling risers
A vortex-induced vibration experiment considers drilling conditions has not been conducted. A new experimental facility was designed to investigate effect of drilling pipe on vortex-induced vibration. Results show that vortex-induced vibration can be inhibited with the increasing drilling pipe tension. Strain amplitude decrease with the increase in drilling pipe tension and strain amplitude decreases significantly with increasing pipe tension at high current speed. Drilling pipe tension does not affect the dominant vibration frequency. Interaction between the IL and CF vibration and the multi-modal phenomenon are more apparent for the periodically contacting and colliding between the drilling pipe and risers
