Frequency response of space-based interferometric gravitational-wave detectors
Gravitational waves are perturbations of the metric of space-time. Six
polarizations are possible, although general relativity predicts that only two
such polarizations, tensor plus and tensor cross are present for gravitational
waves. We give the analytical formulas for the antenna response functions for
the six polarizations which are valid for any equal-arm interferometric
gravitational-wave detectors without optical cavities in the arms. The response
function averaged over the source direction and polarization angle decreases at
high frequencies which deteriorates the signal-to-noise ratio registered in the
detector. At high frequencies, the averaged response functions for the tensor
and breathing modes fall of as , the averaged response function for the
longitudinal mode falls off as and the averaged response function for the
vector mode falls off as .Comment: V3: minor corrections. PRD in pres
Analysis, filtering, and control for Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy models in networked systems

Among different kinds of models for fuzzy systems, the so-called Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) fuzzy model has been quite popular due to its convenient and simple dynamic structure as well as its capability of approximating any smooth nonlinear function to any specified accuracy within any compact set. In terms of such a model, the performance analysis and the design of controllers and filters play important roles in the research of fuzzy systems. In this paper, we aim to survey some recent advances on the T-S fuzzy control and filtering problems with various network-induced phenomena. The network-induced phenomena under consideration mainly include communication delays, packet dropouts, signal quantization, and randomly occurring uncertainties (ROUs). With such network-induced phenomena, the developments on T-S fuzzy control and filtering issues are reviewed in detail. In addition, some latest results on this topic are highlighted. In the end, conclusions are drawn and some possible future research directions are pointed out. This work was supported in part by the National Natural Science Foundation of China under Grants 61134009, 61329301, 11301118 and 61174136, the Natural Science Foundation of Jiangsu Province of China under Grant BK20130017, the Fundamental Research Funds for the Central Universities of China under Grant CUSF-DH-D-2013061, the Royal Society of the U.K., and the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation of Germany
Photon-assisted electron transmission resonance through a quantum well with spin-orbit coupling
Using the effective-mass approximation and Floquet theory, we study the
electron transmission over a quantum well in semiconductor heterostructures
with Dresselhaus spin-orbit coupling and an applied oscillation field. It is
demonstrated by the numerical evaluations that Dresselhaus spin-orbit coupling
eliminates the spin degeneracy and leads to the splitting of asymmetric
Fano-type resonance peaks in the conductivity. In turn, the splitting of
Fano-type resonance induces the spin- polarization-dependent electron-current.
The location and line shape of Fano-type resonance can be controlled by
adjusting the oscillation frequency and the amplitude of external field as
well. These interesting features may be a very useful basis for devising
tunable spin filters.Comment: 10pages,4figure
Exotic quantum phase transitions in a Bose-Einstein condensate coupled to an optical cavity
A new extended Dicke model, which includes atom-atom interactions and a
driving classical laser field, is established for a Bose-Einstein condensate
inside an ultrahigh-finesse optical cavity. A feasible experimental setup with
a strong atom-field coupling is proposed, where most parameters are easily
controllable and thus the predicted second-order superradiant-normal phase
transition may be detected by measuring the ground-state atomic population.
More intriguingly, a novel second-order phase transition from the superradiant
phase to the \textquotedblleft Mott" phase is also revealed. In addition, a
rich and exotic phase diagram is presented.Comment: 4 pages; figures 1 and 3 are modified; topos are correcte
Orbital elements of barium stars formed through a wind accretion scenario
Taking the total angular momentum conservation in place of the tangential
momentum conservation, and considering the square and higher power terms of
orbital eccentricity e, the changes of orbital elements of binaries are
calculated for wind accretion scenario. These new equations are used to
quantitatively explain the observed (e,logP) properties of normal G, K giants
and barium stars. Our results reflect the evolution from G, K giant binaries to
barium binaries, moreover, the barium stars with longer orbital periods P>1600
days may be formed by accreting part of the ejecta from the intrinsic AGB stars
through wind accretion scenario.Comment: 7 pages, LaTex, 4 PS figures and 1 table included, accepted for

Macroscopic Quantum Coherence in Small Antiferromagnetic Particle and the Quantum Interference Effects
Starting from the Hamiltonian operator of the noncompensated two-sublattice
model of a small antiferromagnetic particle, we derive the effective Lagrangian
of a biaxial antiferromagnetic particle in an external magnetic field with the
help of spin-coherent-state path integrals. Two unequal level-shifts induced by
tunneling through two types of barriers are obtained using the instanton
method. The energy spectrum is found from Bloch theory regarding the periodic
potential as a superlattice. The external magnetic field indeed removes
Kramers' degeneracy, however a new quenching of the energy splitting depending
on the applied magnetic field is observed for both integer and half-integer
spins due to the quantum interference between transitions through two types of
barriers.Comment: 9 pages, Latex, 4 Postscript figure
