    Modeling the IPv6 Internet AS-level Topology

    To measure the IPv6 internet AS-level topology, a network topology discovery system, called Dolphin, was developed. By comparing the measurement result of Dolphin with that of CAIDA's Scamper, it was found that the IPv6 Internet at AS level, similar to other complex networks, is also scale-free but the exponent of its degree distribution is 1.2, which is much smaller than that of the IPv4 Internet and most other scale-free networks. In order to explain this feature of IPv6 Internet we argue that the degree exponent is a measure of uniformity of the degree distribution. Then, for the purpose on modeling the networks, we propose a new model based on the two major factors affecting the exponent of the EBA model. It breaks the lower bound of degree exponent which is 2 for most models. To verify the validity of this model, both theoretical and experimental analyses have been carried out. Finally, we demonstrate how this model can be successfully used to reproduce the topology of the IPv6 Internet.Comment: 15 pages, 5 figure

    Hierarchical TiO2/C nanocomposite monoliths with a robust scaffolding architecture, mesopore-macropore network and TiO2-C heterostructure for high-performance lithium ion batteries.

    Engineering hierarchical structures of electrode materials is a powerful strategy for optimizing the electrochemical performance of an anode material for lithium-ion batteries (LIBs). Herein, we report the fabrication of hierarchical TiO2/C nanocomposite monoliths by mediated mineralization and carbonization using bacterial cellulose (BC) as a scaffolding template as well as a carbon source. TiO2/C has a robust scaffolding architecture, a mesopore-macropore network and TiO2-C heterostructure. TiO2/C-500, obtained by calcination at 500 °C in nitrogen, contains an anatase TiO2-C heterostructure with a specific surface area of 66.5 m(2) g(-1). When evaluated as an anode material at 0.5 C, TiO2/C-500 exhibits a high and reversible lithium storage capacity of 188 mA h g(-1), an excellent initial capacity of 283 mA h g(-1), a long cycle life with a 94% coulombic efficiency preserved after 200 cycles, and a very low charge transfer resistance. The superior electrochemical performance of TiO2/C-500 is attributed to the synergistic effect of high electrical conductivity, anatase TiO2-C heterostructure, mesopore-macropore network and robust scaffolding architecture. The current material strategy affords a general approach for the design of complex inorganic nanocomposites with structural stability, and tunable and interconnected hierarchical porosity that may lead to the next generation of electrochemical supercapacitors with high energy efficiency and superior power density.Sincere gratitude goes to funding agencies for financially support: Y.     Suppressed Expression of CXCL14 in Hepatocellular Carcinoma Tissues and Its Reduction in the Advanced Stage of Chronic HBV Infection.

    Introduction(#br)CXCL14 was a significantly under-expressed mRNA in hepatocellular carcinoma tissues according to our microarray analysis, as well as head and neck squamous cell carcinoma and cervical squamous cell carcinoma. CXCL14 was considered a tumor suppressor in some studies; however, its role in HBV infection has not been identified.(#br)Methods(#br)CXCL14 mRNA expression was quantified from 20 male HCC patients, and the fold change in cancer tissues was calculated by comparisons with normal adjacent tissues. Overall, 212 patients with chronic HBV infection and 180 HBV-free controls were recruited to investigate the association between CXCL14 polymorphisms and HBV progression as well as liver function parameters. Serum CXCL14 levels were determined by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), and comparisons were made between different HBV status and different CXCL14 genotypes.(#br)Results(#br)The mRNA expression of CXCL14 was 0.33-fold in HCC tissues when compared with adjacent tissues. The frequencies of rs2237062 and rs2547, but not rs2237061, were significantly different between patients with mild hepatitis and moderate-to-severe hepatitis. Moreover, rs2237062 and rs2547 polymorphisms correlated with impaired liver function parameters. ELISA results suggested that HBV-free controls had the highest level of CXCL14, while mild hepatitis patients had low levels, and patients with moderate-to-severe hepatitis had the lowest level. GA+AA genotypes of rs2547 were associated with reduced levels of serum CXCL14 because it introduced a stop codon at residue 109.(#br)Conclusion(#br)CXCL14 was significantly suppressed in HBV-related HCC tissues, and its polymorphisms were linked with advanced stage chronic HBV infection and impaired liver function

    Axial Vascularization of Nano-HA/Collagen/PLA Composites by Arteriovenous Bundle

    In previous studies, nano-hydroxyapatite/collagen/poly(L-lactic acid) (nHAC/PLA) composites have been prepared and confirmed to repair small sized bone defects. However, they are restricted to repair a large defect without sufficient oxygen and nutrition for cell survival. The result of this study confirmed that nHAC/PLA composites could be axially vascularized by being implanted intramuscularly with arteriovenous (AV) bundle (Group A) in the groins of rabbits. The combination with autologous bone marrow (Group B) could not enhance it the vascularization in early phase (2 weeks, P>0.05), but it could enhance in middle and later phases (6 and 10 weeks, P<0.01). It meant that nHAC/PLA could be prefabricated as a vascularized bone substitute for grafting

    <p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>EV71 occasionally cause a series of severe neurological symptoms, including aseptic meningitis, encephalitis, and poliomyelitis-like paralysis. However, the neurological destruction mechanism was remained to be clarified. This study described the cross reaction between EV71 induced IgG and human brain tissue.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>Cross reaction of the IgG from 30 EV71 infected patients' sera to human tissues of cerebra was observed, which suggested that some EV71 antigens could induce IgG cross-reactivity to human cerebra. To identify the regions of EV71 virus that containing above antigens, the polypeptide of virus was divided into 19 peptides by expression in prokaryotes cell. Mouse anti-sera of these peptides was prepared and applied in immunohistochemical staining with human adult and fetus brain tissue, respectively. The result indicated the 19 peptides can be classified into three groups: strong cross-reactivity, weak cross-reactivity and no cross-reactivity with human brain tissue according the cross reaction activity. Then, the increased Blood Brain Barrier (BBB) permeability and permits IgG entry in neonatal mice after EV71 infection was determined.</p> <p>Conclusion</p> <p>EV71 induced IgG could enter BBB and cross-reacted with brain tissue in EV71 infected neonatal mice, and then the peptides of EV71 that could induce cross-reactivity with brain tissue were identified, which should be avoided in future vaccine designing.</p

    The effect of JuanBiQiangGu granules in combination with methotrexate on joint inflammation in rheumatoid arthritis: a randomized controlled trial

    Background: Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) joint inflammation severely affects joint function and quality of life in patients and leads to joint deformities and limb disability. The non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs used in the treatment of RA do not fully control the progression of joint inflammation and bone destruction and have notable adverse reactions. Traditional Chinese medicine formula JuanBiQiangGu Granules (JBQG) are commonly used for the treatment of RA inflammation and delay of bone destruction, but has not been evaluated through high-quality clinical studies. There is a pressing need for well-designed, randomized, parallel, controlled clinical studies to evaluate the exact effect of JBQG on RA joint inflammation and improvement of patient quality of life.Methods: This is a randomized, parallel, controlled clinical study in which 144 patients with rheumatoid arthritis who met the inclusion criteria were randomly assigned to 2 groups in a 1:1 ratio. The JBQG group received methotrexate 7.5 mg qw and JBQG granules 8 mg tid, while the MTX group received methotrexate 7.5 mg qw. The endpoint was 12 weeks after treatment. Relevant indices at baseline, 4 weeks, 8 weeks, and 12 weeks after treatment were observed and recorded, and DAS28-ESR, HAQ-DI, and Sharp scores were recorded for each patient. Blood samples were collected to test for CRP, ESR, TNF-α, IL-1β, IL-6, IL-17, and INF-γ, and adverse reactions and liver and kidney function (AST, ALT, Cr, BUN) were recorded for safety assessment. After 12 weeks of treatment, the effect of JBQG granules on disease activity, improvement in bone damage, and patient quality of life scores and safety in RA patients were evaluated.Results: A total of 144 subjects completed treatment (71 in the JBQG group and 73 in the MTX group) and were included in the analysis. At baseline, there were no significant differences between the groups in terms of the observed indicators (p &gt; 0.05). After treatment, 76.06% of patients in the JBQG group had DAS28-ESR levels below or equal to Low, including 45.07% in Remission and 5.63% in High, compared to 53.1% in the MTX group below or equal to Low, 12.33% in Remission, and 17.81% in High. CRP was significantly reduced (8.54 ± 5.87 vs. 11.86 ± 7.92, p &lt; 0.05, p = 0.005), ESR was significantly reduced (15.1 ± 6.11 vs. 21.96 ± 9.19, p &lt; 0.0001), TNF-α was significantly reduced (1.44 ± 0.83 vs. 1.85 ± 1.07, p &lt; 0.05, p = 0.011), IL-17 was significantly reduced (0.53 ± 0.33 vs. 0.71 ± 0.38, p &lt; 0.05, p = 0.004), and INF-γ was significantly reduced (3.2 ± 1.51 vs. 3.89 ± 1.77, p &lt; 0.05, p = 0.014). The median (IQR) OPG in the JBQG group was 2.54 (2.21–3.01), significantly higher than in the MTX group 2.06 (1.81–2.32), p &lt; 0.0001), and the median (IQR) β-CTX in the JBQG group was 0.4 (0.32–0.43), significantly lower than in the MTX group 0.55 (0.47–0.67), p &lt; 0.0001). The median (IQR) VSA scores were 2 (1–3), a decrease from 3 (2–4) in the MTX group (p &lt; 0.0001). The median (IQR) Sharp scores were 1 (1–2), a decrease from 2 (1–2) in the MTX group, but the difference was not statistically significant (p &gt; 0.05, p = 0.28). The median (IQR) HAQ-DI scores were 11 (8–16), significantly lower than in the MTX group 26 (16–30) (p &lt; 0.0001). The median (IQR) AST in the JBQG group was 16 (12–20), with a significant difference compared to the MTX group 19 (13–25) (p &lt; 0.01, p = 0.004); the median (IQR) ALT in the JBQG group was 14 (10–18), with a significant difference compared to the MTX group 16 (11–22.5) (p &lt; 0.05, p = 0.015). There were no statistically significant differences in Cr or BUN (p &gt; 0.05).Conclusion: JuanBiQiangGu Granules can be used to treat patients with rheumatoid arthritis, alleviate joint inflammation, reduce the incidence of adverse reactions to methotrexate, and has good safety.Clinical Trial Registration:http://www.chinadrugtrials.org.cn/index.html; identifier: ChiCTR2100046373

    Combination of D-dimer level and neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio predicts long-term clinical outcomes in acute coronary syndrome after percutaneous coronary intervention

    Background: High D-dimer (DD) is associated with short-term adverse outcomes in patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS). In ACS patients who underwent percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), however, the value of DD (or combined with neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio [NLR]) to predict long-term major adverse cardiovascular events (MACEs) has not been fully evaluated. Methods: Patients diagnosed with ACS and receiving PCI were included. The primary outcome was MACEs. Cox proportional hazards regression and logistic regression was used to illustrate the relationship between clinical risk factors, biomarkers and MACEs. Survival models were developed based on significant factors and evaluated by the Concordance-index (C-index). Results: The final study cohort was comprised of 650 patients (median age, 64 years; 474 males), including 98 (15%) with MACEs during a median follow-up period of 40 months. According to the cut-off value of DD and NLR, the patients were separated into four groups: high DD or nonhigh DD with high or nonhigh NLR. After adjusting for confounding variables, DD (adjusted hazard ratio [aHR]: 2.39, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.52–3.76) and NLR (aHR: 2.71, 95% CI: 1.78–4.11) were independently associated with long-term MACEs. Moreover, patients with both high DD and NLR had a significantly higher risk in MACEs when considering patients with nonhigh DD and NLR as reference (aHR: 6.19, 95% CI: 3.30–11.61). The area under curve (AUC) increased and reached 0.70 in differentiating long-term MACEs when DD and NLR were combined, and survival models incorporating the two exhibited a stronger predictive power (C-index: 0.75). Conclusions: D-dimer (or combined with NLR) can be used to predict long-term MACEs in ACS patients undergoing PCI
