    Effectiveness of psychoeducational interventions on psychological distress and health-related quality of life among patients with maintenance hemodialysis: a systematic review and meta-analysis

    To examine the effectiveness of psychoeducational interventions on depression, anxiety, and health-related quality of life (HRQOL) for people undergoing maintenance hemodialysis (MHD). This review used systematic review and meta-analysis as the research design. Nine databases, including PubMed, Web of Science, Embase, CINAHL Complete, Cochrane Library, CNKI, WanFang, VIP, and Chinese Biomedical Literature Database, were searched from the inception to the 8th of July 2023. Two reviewers independently identified randomized controlled trials (RCT) examining the effects of psychoeducational interventions on MHD patients. Fourteen studies involving 1134 MHD patients were included in this review. The results of meta-analyses showed that psychoeducational intervention had significant short-term (p = 0.01, I2 = 91%; 481 participants), and medium-term (1–3 m) (SMD: −0.29, 95% CI: −0.50 to −0.08, p = 0.01, I2 = 49%; 358 participants) on anxiety in MHD patients, but the effects could not be sustained at longer follow-ups. Psychoeducational interventions can also have short-term (p 2 = 65%; 711 participants) and medium-term (1–3 m) (SMD: −0.42, 95% CI: −0.76 to −0.09, p = 0.01, I2 = 69%; 489 participants) effects in reducing depression levels in MHD patients. Psychoeducational interventions that use coping strategies, goal setting, and relaxation techniques could enhance the QOL in MHD patients in the short term (p = 0.02, I2 = 86%; 241 participants). Psychoeducational interventions have shown great potential to improve anxiety, depression, and quality of life in patients with MHD at the short- and medium-term follow-ups.     Data-Driven Confidence Interval Estimation Incorporating Prior Information with an Adjustment for Skewed Data

    <p>Bayesian credible interval (CI) estimation is a statistical procedure that has been well addressed in both the theoretical and applied literature. Parametric assumptions regarding baseline data distributions are critical for the implementation of this method. We provide a nonparametric technique for incorporating prior information into the equal-tailed (ET) and highest posterior density (HPD) CI estimators in the Bayesian manner. We propose to use a data-driven likelihood function, replacing the parametric likelihood function to create a distribution-free posterior. Higher order asymptotic propositions are derived to show the efficiency and consistency of the proposed method. We demonstrate that the proposed approach may correct confidence regions with respect to skewness of the data distribution. An extensive Monte Carlo (MC) study confirms the proposed method significantly outperforms the classical CI estimation in a frequentist context. A real data example related to a study of myocardial infarction illustrates the excellent applicability of the proposed technique.     Kleinhospitines A–D, New Cycloartane Triterpenoid Alkaloids from <i>Kleinhovia hospita</i>

    Kleinhospitines A–D, four unprecedented cycloartane triterpenoid alkaloids possessing a spiro α,β-unsaturated γ-lactamlactone side chain, were isolated as two mixtures of C-23 epimers from <i>Kleinhovia hospita</i>. Kleinhospitines C and D represent the first examples of naturally occurring cycloartane triterpenoids with a 9α,10α-cyclopropyl ring. The structures and absolute configurations were determined on the basis of spectroscopic analyses and comprehensive quantum chemical calculations.     Gadoxetic Acid Disodium-Enhanced Magnetic Resonance Imaging for the Detection of Hepatocellular Carcinoma: A Meta-Analysis

    <div><p>Objective</p><p>To determine the accuracy of MR imaging with gadoxetic acid disodium (Gd-EOB-DTPA) for the detection of hepatocelluar carcinoma (HCC).</p><p>Materials and Methods</p><p>A systematic search was performed in PUBMED, EMBASE, Web of Science, Cochrane Library and the Chinese Biomedical Literature Database up to March 2013 to identify studies about evaluation of Gd-EOB-DTPA enhanced MR imaging in patients suspected of having HCC. The data were extracted to perform heterogeneity test and threshold effect test and to calculate sensitivity, specificity, diagnostic odds ratio, predictive value, and areas under summary receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC).</p><p>Results</p><p>From 601 citations, 10 were included in the meta-analysis. The methodological quality of the 10 studies was good. <b>Overall HCC</b>: There was significant heterogeneity in the pooled analysis (I<sup>2</sup> = 69.4%, P = 0.0005), and the pooled weighted values were determined to be sensitivity: 0.91 (95% confidence interval (CI): 0.89, 0. 93); specificity: 0.95 (95% CI: 0.94, 0.96); diagnostic odds ratio: 169.94 (95% CI: 108.84, 265.36); positive likelihood ratio: 15.75 (95% CI: 7.45, 33.31); negative likelihood ratio: 0.10 (95% CI: 0.06, 0.15). The AUC was 0.9778. <b>HCC in cirrhosis:</b> The estimates were to be sensitivity: 0.91 (95% CI: 0.88, 0.93); specificity: 0.93 (95% CI: 0.89, 0.95); diagnostic odds ratio: 234.24 (95% CI: 33.47, 1639.25); positive likelihood ratio: 15.08 (95% CI: 2.20, 103.40); negative likelihood ratio: 0.08 (95% CI: 0.03, 0.21). The AUC was 0.9814. <b>≤20</b><b>mm HCC:</b> The AUC was 0.9936. There was no notable publication bias.</p><p>Conclusions</p><p>This meta-analysis suggests that MR imaging with Gd-EOB-DTPA has high diagnostic accuracy for the detection of HCC, especially for ≤20 mm HCC. This technique shows good prospect in diagnosis of HCC.</p></div

    The genus Triplophysa is an ideal taxon for understanding geological evolution. In this study, for the first time, we report the complete mitochondrial genome of T. nanpanjiangensis Zhu and Cao 1988 using the Nanopore sequencing. It is a circular genome with a length of 16558 bp, comprising 22 tRNAs, 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), two rRNAs, and one non-coding control region. The phylogenetic tree demonstrates that T. nanpanjiangensis is sister to Triplophysa zhenfengensis and placed within the genus Triplophysa. Our mitogenomic studies provide a new pathway for understanding the molecular phylogeny of the genus Triplophysa.</p
