Dynamic structure of stock communities: A comparative study between stock returns and turnover rates
The detection of community structure in stock market is of theoretical and
practical significance for the study of financial dynamics and portfolio risk
estimation. We here study the community structures in Chinese stock markets
from the aspects of both price returns and turnover rates, by using a
combination of the PMFG and infomap methods based on a distance matrix. We find
that a few of the largest communities are composed of certain specific industry
or conceptional sectors and the correlation inside a sector is generally larger
than the correlation between different sectors. In comparison with returns, the
community structure for turnover rates is more complex and the sector effect is
relatively weaker. The financial dynamics is further studied by analyzing the
community structures over five sub-periods. Sectors like banks, real estate,
health care and New Shanghai take turns to compose a few of the largest
communities for both returns and turnover rates in different sub-periods.
Several specific sectors appear in the communities with different rank orders
for the two time series even in the same sub-period. A comparison between the
evolution of prices and turnover rates of stocks from these sectors is
conducted to better understand their differences. We find that stock prices
only had large changes around some important events while turnover rates surged
after each of these events relevant to specific sectors, which may offer a
possible explanation for the complexity of stock communities for turnover
rates

Noncollinearity-modulated electronic properties of the monolayer CrI
Introducing noncollinear magnetization into a monolayer CrI is proposed
to be an effective approach to modulate the local electronic properties of the
two-dimensional (2D) magnetic material. Using first-principles calculation, we
illustrate that both the conduction and valence bands in the monolayer CrI
are lowered down by spin spiral states. The distinct electronic structure of
the monolayer noncollinear CrI can be applied in nanoscale functional
devices. As a proof of concept, we show that a magnetic domain wall can form a
one-dimensional conducting channel in the 2D semiconductor via proper gating.
Other possible applications such as electron-hole separation and identical
quantum dots are also discussed
Refinement and growth enhancement of Al2Cu phase during magnetic field assisting directional solidification of hypereutectic Al-Cu alloy.
International audienceUnderstanding how the magnetic fields affect the formation of reinforced phase during solidification is crucial to tailor the structure and therefor the performance of metal matrix in situ composites. In this study, a hypereutectic Al-40 wt.% Cu alloy has been directionally solidified under various axial magnetic fields and the morphology of Al2Cu phase was quantified in 3D by means of high resolution synchrotron X-ray tomography. With rising magnetic fields, both increase of Al2Cu phase's total volume and decrease of each column's transverse section area were found. These results respectively indicate the growth enhancement and refinement of the primary Al2Cu phase in the magnetic field assisting directional solidification. The thermoelectric magnetic forces (TEMF) causing torque and dislocation multiplication in the faceted primary phases were thought dedicate to respectively the refinement and growth enhancement. To verify this, a real structure based 3D simulation of TEMF in Al2Cu column was carried out, and the dislocations in the Al2Cu phase obtained without and with a 10T high magnetic field were analysed by the transmission electron microscope
