Optimization design of a voice coil actuator based on improved SOM
Voice coil actuator is a new kind of direct drive motor. It has many good performances, such as high acceleration and fast response. We present an improved sequential optimization method (SOM) and dimension reduction optimization method to design optimization a cylindrical voice coil actuator in this work. In the implementation, design of experiments (DOE) technique and Kriging approximate model are employed to improve the optimization efficiency. From the discussion, we can see that the proposed methods are very efficient. And computation cost of finite element analysis can be reduced remarkably (more than 2/3 of the cost has been saved) by the proposed methods. © 2011 IEEE
A quantitative trait locus for the number of days from sowing to seedling emergence in maize
Quantitative trait locus (QTL) mapping provides useful information for breeding programs since it allows the estimation of genomic locations and genetic effects of chromosomal regions related to the expression of quantitative traits. The number of days from sowing to seedling emergence (NDSSE) is an important agronomic trait in a maize (Zea mays L.) breeding project which is related to yield. To determine its genetic basis, a recombinant inbred line (RIL) population and two nitrogen (N) regimes were used to detect the QTLs associated with NDSSE; as a result, one QTL was identified under high N regime, on chromosome 9, which could explain 6.20% of phenotypic variance and a decrease of 0.18 of NDSSE due to an additive effect. These results are beneficial for understanding the genetic basis of NDSSE in maize breeding project.Key words: Maize (Zea mays L.), quantitative trait locus, recombinant inbred line, nitrogen

Do unsaturated fatty acids have beneficial effect on reduction of stroke risk in hypertensive population?
Abstracts for Chaired Posters: no. CP10BACKGROUND: It has been suggested that monospecific unsaturated fatty acids have potential effect on protection against stroke. Studies on the effect of different categories of fatty acids are lacking. The stroke incidence is high in hypertensive patients. Therefore, we studied the relationship between serum level of 6 categories of fatty acids and stroke incidence in ...postprin
Search for K_S K_L in psi'' decays
K_S K_L from psi'' decays is searched for using the psi'' data collected by
BESII at BEPC, the upper limit of the branching fraction is determined to be
B(psi''--> K_S K_L) < 2.1\times 10^{-4} at 90% C. L. The measurement is
compared with the prediction of the S- and D-wave mixing model of the
charmonia, based on the measurements of the branching fractions of J/psi-->K_S
K_L and psi'-->K_S K_L.Comment: 5 pages, 1 figur
Study of psi(2S) decays to X J/psi
Using J/psi -> mu^+ mu^- decays from a sample of approximately 4 million
psi(2S) events collected with the BESI detector, the branching fractions of
psi(2S) -> eta J/psi, pi^0 pi^0 J/psi, and anything J/psi normalized to that of
psi(2S) -> pi^+ pi^- J/psi are measured. The results are B(psi(2S) -> eta
J/psi)/B(psi(2S) -> pi^+ pi^- J/psi) = 0.098 \pm 0.005 \pm 0.010, B(psi(2S) ->
pi^0 pi^0 J/psi)/B(psi(2S) -> pi^+ pi^- J/psi) = 0.570 \pm 0.009 \pm 0.026, and
B(psi(2S) -> anything J/psi)/B(psi(2S) -> pi^+ pi^- J/psi) = 1.867 \pm 0.026
\pm 0.055.Comment: 13 pages, 8 figure
Microwave Oscillations of a Nanomagnet Driven by a Spin-Polarized Current
We describe direct electrical measurements of microwave-frequency dynamics in
individual nanomagnets that are driven by spin transfer from a DC
spin-polarized current. We map out the dynamical stability diagram as a
function of current and magnetic field, and we show that spin transfer can
produce several different types of magnetic excitations, including small-angle
precession, a more complicated large-angle motion, and a high-current state
that generates little microwave signal. The large-angle mode can produce a
significant emission of microwave energy, as large as 40 times the
Johnson-noise background.Comment: 12 pages, 3 figure
