A metal–organic framework/α-alumina composite with a novel geometry for enhanced adsorptive separation
The development of a metal–organic framework/α-alumina composite leads to a novel concept: efficient adsorption occurs within a plurality of radial micro-channels with no loss of the active adsorbents during the process. This composite can effectively remediate arsenic contaminated water producing potable water recovery, whereas the conventional fixed bed requires eight times the amount of active adsorbents to achieve a similar performance
New evidence for lack of CMB power on large scales
A digitalized temperature map is recovered from the first light sky survey
image published by the Planck team, from which an angular power spectrum is
derived. The amplitudes of the low multipoles measured from the preliminary
Planck power spectrum are significantly lower than that reported by the WMAP
team. Possible systematical effects are far from enough to explain the observed
low-l differences.Comment: 9 pages, 3 figure
Hertz-level Measurement of the 40Ca+ 4s 2S1/2-3d 2D5/2 Clock Transition Frequency With Respect to the SI Second through GPS
We report a frequency measurement of the clock transition of a single ^40Ca^+
ion trapped and laser cooled in a miniature ring Paul trap with 10^-15 level
uncertainty. In the measurement, we used an optical frequency comb referenced
to a Hydrogen maser, which was calibrated to the SI second through the Global
Positioning System (GPS). Two rounds of measurements were taken in May and June
2011, respectively. The frequency was measured to be 411 042 129 776 393.0(1.6)
Hz with a fractional uncertainty of 3.9{\times}10^-15 in a total averaging time
of > 2{\times}10^6 s within 32 days
Non-Abelian Josephson effect between two spinor Bose-Einstein condensates in double optical traps
We investigate the non-Abelian Josephson effect in spinor Bose-Einstein
condensates with double optical traps. We propose, for the first time, a real
physical system which contains non-Abelian Josephson effects. The collective
modes of this weak coupling system have very different density and spin
tunneling characters comparing to the Abelian case. We calculate the
frequencies of the pseudo Goldstone modes in different phases between two traps
respectively, which are a crucial feature of the non-Abelian Josephson effects.
We also give an experimental protocol to observe this novel effect in future
experiments.Comment: 5 pages, 3 figure
Large exchange bias after zero-field cooling from an unmagnetized state
Exchange bias (EB) is usually observed in systems with interface between
different magnetic phases after field cooling. Here we report an unusual
phenomenon in which a large EB can be observed in Ni-Mn-In bulk alloys after
zero-field cooling from an unmagnetized state. We propose this is related to
the newly formed interface between different magnetic phases during the initial
magnetization process. The magnetic unidirectional anisotropy, which is the
origin of EB effect, can be created isothermally below the blocking
temperature.Comment: including supplementary information, Accepted by Physical Review

The signal of in nucleon-antinucleon scattering
We study the production of at a nucleon-antinucleon scattering

Optical fiber sensors for coal mine shaft integrity and equipment condition monitoring
Shaft is an important structure of mine. Deep mining increases mine pressure, induces shaft deformation and affects mine normal lifting. How to improve the inspection efficiency, reduce the maintenance cost and ensure the normal operation of the shaft is an important problem facing the mine. The paper introduces the optical fiber sensing technology to monitor the equipment status of the main shaft, puts forward the implementation scheme of the optical fiber monitoring of shaft deformation, and sets up a shaft equipment condition monitoring system based on the optical fiber sensing technology. It can realize equipment displacement monitoring, strain monitoring and vibration signal monitoring in the process of shaft operation. Comprehensive on-line monitoring of shaft running state can be realized, which opens up a new method for shaft deformation monitoring technology. Fiber optic sensing monitoring technology is of great significance to the safe operation of shaft
Monte Carlo Simulation of the Short-time Behaviour of the Dynamic XY Model
Dynamic relaxation of the XY model quenched from a high temperature state to
the critical temperature or below is investigated with Monte Carlo methods.
When a non-zero initial magnetization is given, in the short-time regime of the
dynamic evolution the critical initial increase of the magnetization is
observed. The dynamic exponent is directly determined. The results
show that the exponent varies with respect to the temperature.
Furthermore, it is demonstrated that this initial increase of the magnetization
is universal, i.e. independent of the microscopic details of the initial
configurations and the algorithms.Comment: 14 pages with 5 figures in postscrip
