Porous titanium for biomedical applications : development, characterization and biological evaluation

    Get PDF
Metallic biomaterials have so far shown the greatest potential to be the basis of implants for long-term load-bearing orthopedic and dental applications, owing to their excellent mechanical strength when compared to alternative biomaterials, such as polymers and ceramics. Particularly titanium and its alloys are currently receiving much attention because of their biocompatibility, light weight, excellent balance of mechanical properties, corrosion resistance, etc. They are mainly used in implant devices for replacement of failed hard tissue such as artificial hip and knee joints, bone plates and dental implants. In general, failure of joint replacements due to the mechanical failure of materials such as fatigue fracture of the implant seldom occurs. A more common cause of arthroplasty failure is aseptic loosening of the implant that occurs several years after the implant has been in situ and functioning reasonably, due to interfacial instability within host tissues, biomechanical mismatch of Young’s modulus and lacking biological anchorage through tissue ingrowth

Dominant Models in a E-supply Chain When Concerning Fairness

    Get PDF
Although the development of e-commerce can expand market for manufacturers, it requires more fairness. With the rising of consumers’ awareness, an enterprise who does not concern fairness will loss reputation and customers immediately, especially in e-supply chain system. Based on this great significance, the paper introduces fairness concern into e-supply chain, constructs two dominant models in Stackelberg game and discusses the decision-making processes respectively. Results show that: (1) The profit of network platform increases with the growth of commission, as well as the service level, but the profit of manufacturer decreases. Therefore, manufacturer does not prefer a higher commission when she dominates. (2) In a certain range, the service level and sales price both reach the highest point with a dominant network platform who concerns fairness, at the same time, they have positive correlation with fairness degree. (3) Fairness concern is beneficial for poaching consumers, so dominant enterprises should concern it forwardly even though sacrifice profit

Cultural Default and Translation Compensation in Red Poppies

    Get PDF
Cultural default is a common phenomenon in literary works. It will not cause obstacles to the understanding of original readers who share cultural background with the author, but for readers of the target language, cultural differences may create vacuum of meaning for them, so it is necessary to make compensation for the cultural default in the translation process. Taking Red Poppies as the research object, this paper makes a classified study of cultural default, and analyzes the compensation methods in Howard Goldblatt’s translation

FIELD LOADING-TEST BASED SHM SYSTEM SAFETY STANDARD DETERMINATION

    Get PDF
Structural health monitoring (SHM) allows for real-time structural response monitoring and online data acquisition of bridge structures. This data reflects the operational and environmental conditions of the bridge, which is important in identification of possible anomalous changes. In order to effortlessly determine the safety condition of the bridge directly through the transferred data without data analysis, a five-level safety standard system will be established for real-time safety warning in this paper. The threshold of each safety levels will be determined through field loading tests results on an external prestressing rehabilitated continuous rigid frame bridge, of which permanent structural health monitoring system was instrumented. After overall evaluation, we come to the conclusion that the rehabilitation is successful and that the bridge is under safe operating condition. A novel, simplified safety standard thresholding technique is proposed based on static loading test results as well as ultimate limit state of the bridge. This technique is simple yet very practical in daily bridge monitoring

The determinants of bank profitability Empirical evidence from the Chinese banking sectors

    Get PDF
The purpose of this paper is to investigate the influence of bank-specific and macroeconomic determinants of bank profitability through the System Generalized Method of Moments (System-GMM). This paper applies a dynamic panel of top 100 Chinese commercial banks over the period of 2011-2018. This period is the highly implement of reform and the substantial advancement of Internet Finance, which exerts a significant impact on bank profitability. This results show that credit risk, operating efficiency and bank size have a negative and significant influence on bank profitability, while capital adequacy and liquidity risk exert positive correlation with bank profitability. As for macroeconomic factors, the GDP growth rate and Internet Finance positively and significantly effect on bank profitability, while inflation rate is positively related on bank profitability. Among all variables, capital adequacy and inflation rate is not significant associated with bank profitability

    Managerial Attributes and Executive Compensation

    Get PDF
We study the role of firm- and manager-specific heterogeneities in executive compensation. We decompose the variation in executive compensation and find that time invariant firm and especially manager fixed effects explain a majority of the variation in executive pay. We then show that in many settings, it is important to include fixed effects to mitigate potential omitted variable bias. Furthermore, we find that compensation fixed effects are significantly correlated with management styles (i.e., manager fixed effects in corporate policies). Finally, the method used in the paper has a number of potential applications in financial economics.
