    The influence of reconstruction criteria on the sensitive probes of the symmetry potential

    Different criteria of constructing clusters and tracing back Δ\Delta resonances from the intermediate-energy neutron-rich HICs are discussed by employing the updated UrQMD transport model. It is found that both the phase-space and the coordinate-density criteria affect the single and the double neutron/proton ratios of free nucleons at small transverse momenta, but the influence becomes invisible at large transverse momenta. The effect of different methods of reconstructing freeze-out Δ\Deltas on the Δ0/Δ++\Delta^0/\Delta^{++} ratio is strong in a large kinetic energy region.Comment: 8 pages, 7 fig

    Correlations of chaotic eigenfunctions: a semiclassical analysis

    We derive a semiclassical expression for an energy smoothed autocorrelation function defined on a group of eigenstates of the Schr\"odinger equation. The system we considered is an energy-conserved Hamiltonian system possessing time-invariant symmetry. The energy smoothed autocorrelation function is expressed as a sum of three terms. The first one is analogous to Berry's conjecture, which is a Bessel function of the zeroth order. The second and the third terms are trace formulae made from special trajectories. The second term is found to be direction dependent in the case of spacing averaging, which agrees qualitatively with previous numerical observations in high-lying eigenstates of a chaotic billiard.Comment: Revtex, 13 pages, 1 postscript figur

    Difficulties in probing density dependent symmetry potential with the HBT interferometry

    Based on the updated UrQMD transport model, the effect of the symmetry potential energy on the two-nucleon HBT correlation is investigated with the help of the coalescence program for constructing clusters, and the CRAB analyzing program of the two-particle HBT correlation. An obvious non-linear dependence of the neutron-proton (or neutron-neutron) HBT correlation function (Cnp,nnC_{np,nn}) at small relative momenta on the stiffness factor γ\gamma of the symmetry potential energy is found: when γ0.8\gamma \lesssim 0.8, the Cnp,nnC_{np,nn} increases rapidly with increasing γ\gamma, while it starts to saturate if γ0.8\gamma \gtrsim 0.8. It is also found that both the symmetry potential energy at low densities and the conditions of constructing clusters at the late stage of the whole process influence the two-nucleon HBT correlation with the same power.Comment: 11 pages, 4 figure

    Universal statistics of wave functions in chaotic and disordered systems

    We study a new statistics of wave functions in several chaotic and disordered systems: the random matrix model, band random matrix model, the Lipkin model, chaotic quantum billiard and the 1D tight-binding model. Both numerical and analytical results show that the distribution function of a generalized Riccati variable, defined as the ratio of components of eigenfunctions on basis states coupled by perturbation, is universal, and has the form of Lorentzian distribution.Comment: 6 Europhys pages, 2 Ps figures, new version to appear in Europhys.     Assessing the influence of the Merzbacher Lake outburst floods on discharge using the hydrological model SWIM in the Aksu headwaters, Kyrgyzstan/NW China

    Glacial lake outburst floods (GLOF) often have a significant impact on downstream users. Including their effects in hydrological models, identifying past occurrences and assessing their potential impacts are challenges for hydrologists working in mountainous catchments. The regularly outbursting Merzbacher Lake is located in the headwaters of the Aksu River, the most important source of water discharge to the Tarim River, northwest China. Modelling its water resources and the evaluation of potential climate change impacts on river discharge are indispensable for projecting future water availability for the intensively cultivated river oases downstream of the Merzbacher Lake and along the Tarim River. The semi-distributed hydrological model SWIM was calibrated to the outlet station Xiehela on the Kumarik River, by discharge the largest tributary to the Aksu River. The glacial lake outburst floods add to the difficulties of modelling this high-mountain, heavily glaciated catchment with poor data coverage and quality. The aims of the study are to investigate the glacier lake outburst floods using a modelling tool. Results include a two-step model calibration of the Kumarik catchment, an approach for the identification of the outburst floods using the measured gauge data and the modelling results and estimations of the outburst flood volumes. Results show that a catchment model can inform GLOF investigations by providing ‘normal’ (i.e. without the outburst floods) catchment discharge. The comparison of the simulated and observed discharge proves the occurrence of GLOFs and highlights the influences of the GLOFs on the downstream water balance. © 2013 The Authors.     Understanding I=2 pi-pi Interaction

    A correct understanding and description of the I=2 pi-pi S-wave interaction is important for the extraction of the I=0 pi-pi S-wave interaction from experimental data and for understanding the I=0 pi-pi S-wave interaction theoretically.
