Efficient Video Indexing on the Web: A System that Leverages User Interactions with a Video Player
In this paper, we propose a user-based video indexing method, that
automatically generates thumbnails of the most important scenes of an online
video stream, by analyzing users' interactions with a web video player. As a
test bench to verify our idea we have extended the YouTube video player into
the VideoSkip system. In addition, VideoSkip uses a web-database (Google
Application Engine) to keep a record of some important parameters, such as the
timing of basic user actions (play, pause, skip). Moreover, we implemented an
algorithm that selects representative thumbnails. Finally, we populated the
system with data from an experiment with nine users. We found that the
VideoSkip system indexes video content by leveraging implicit users
interactions, such as pause and thirty seconds skip. Our early findings point
toward improvements of the web video player and its thumbnail generation
technique. The VideSkip system could compliment content-based algorithms, in
order to achieve efficient video-indexing in difficult videos, such as lectures

Obstacle Detection in Cluttered Traffic Environment Based on Candidate Generation and Classification
A novel method to detect vehicles is presented in the paper. Assumption of the vehicle is made using the geometrical features of the vehicle rear by the statistical histogram. Then hypothesis is verified using the property of the shadow cast by the car according to a prior acknowledgement of traffic scene. Finally, the vehicle detection is realized by hypothesis and verification of objects. The experimental results show the efficiency and feasibility of the method
Higgs algebraic symmetry of screened system in a spherical geometry
The orbits and the dynamical symmetries for the screened Coulomb potentials
and isotropic harmonic oscillators have been studied by Wu and Zeng [Z. B. Wu
and J. Y. Zeng, Phys. Rev. A 62,032509 (2000)]. We find the similar properties
in the responding systems in a spherical space, whose dynamical symmetries are
described by Higgs Algebra. There exists a conserved aphelion and perihelion
vector, which, together with angular momentum, constitute the generators of the

Effect of substituting guinea grass with sunflower hulls on production performance and digestion traits in fattening rabbits
[EN] The objective of this study was to evaluate the use of sunflower hulls (SH) to substitute guinea grass (GG), traditionally used as a fibre source in the diets of fattening rabbits, on production performance, coefficients of total tract apparent digestibility (CTTAD) of nutrients, gastrointestinal tract development and caecal fermentation. A total of 160 mixed sex Hyla commercial meat rabbits were allocated to 4 experimental groups (40 per treatment) differing in the SH level inclusion in the diet offered to rabbits from 40 to 90 d of age: 0, 30, 60 and 90 g/kg on as-fed basis: SH0, SH30, SH60 and SH90 groups, respectively. Growth performance was recorded from 47 to 90 d of age, CTTAD of nutrients from 86 to 90 d of age, and gastrointestinal tract development, caecal fermentation and carcass traits were determined at 90 d of age. Increasing substitutions of SH in the diet indicated effects on growth performance, as higher feed intake and lower feed efficiency were observed in SH90 compared with SH0 (P-linear<0.05). Moreover, the higher SH substitution diet (SH60 and SH90) increased the relative caecum weight (P-linear<0.05). A linear negative effect of SH inclusion was observed for the digestibility of neutral detergent fibre (CTTAD from 0.294 to 0.232) and acid detergent fibre (CTTAD from 0.182 to 0.136; P-linear<0.05). Dietary SH substitution level had a quadratic effect on the villus height of the duodenum, jejunum and ileum obtained (P-quadratic<0.05), and the highest were observed in the SH60 group. There was a quadratic effect on the pH of caecum content (P-quadratic<0.05), and the lowest was 6.08 in SH30 group. The total volatil fatty acids increased linearly with increasing SH in diets (from 71.11 to 76.98 mmol/L; P-linear<0.05), and when dietary SH increased, the proportion of acetate tended to increase (P-linear<0.05), and the proportions of propionic and butyric were decreased (P-linear<0.05, respectively). Substitution of GG with SH had no effect on carcass characteristics and meat quality. On the second reference state and complete eigenstates of the open XXZ chain
The second reference state of the open XXZ spin chain with non-diagonal
boundary terms is studied. The associated Bethe states exactly yield the second
set of eigenvalues proposed recently by functional Bethe Ansatz. In the
quasi-classical limit, two sets of Bethe states give the complete eigenstates

Evolution of Non-Equilibrium Profile in Adsorbate Layer under Compressive Strain
We investigate the time evolution of an initial step profile separating a
bare substrate region from the rest of the compressively strained adsorbate
layer near a commensurate to incommensurate transition. The rate of profile
evolution as a function of the mismatch, coverage and the strength of the
substrate potential are determined by Brownian molecular dynamics simulations.
We find that the results are qualitatively similar to those observed for the
Pb/Si(111) system. The anomalously fast time evolution and sharpness of the
non-equilibrium profile can be understood through the domain wall creation at
the boundary and its subsequent diffusion into the interior of the adsorbate

Differential gene expression profiles in foetal skin of Rex rabbits with different wool density
[EN] This study investigated the mechanisms controlling hair follicle development in the Rex rabbit. The Agilent rabbit gene expression microarray was used to determine differentially expressed genes in Rex rabbit foetuses with different wool densities. The expression patterns of selected differentially-expressed genes were further investigated by quantitative real-time PCR. Compared to low wool density rabbits, 1342 differentially expressed probes were identified in high wool density rabbits, including 950 upregulated probes and 392 downregulated probes. Gene ontology analysis revealed that the most upregulated differentially expressed probes belonged to receptors and the most downregulated differentially expressed probes belonged to DNA binding molecules. Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes pathway analysis revealed that the differentially expressed probes were mainly involved in the sonic hedgehog (Shh) and Eph signalling pathways. The results also suggest that transforming growth factor-beta 1, growth hormone receptor, and the keratin-associated protein 6.1 genes, as well as the Shh and Eph signalling pathways, may be involved in the regulation of hair follicle developmental in Rex rabbits.The authors thank Ms. Libo Huang for her technical assistance. Effects of dimers on cooperation in the spatial prisoner's dilemma game
We investigate the evolutionary prisoner's dilemma game in structured
populations by introducing dimers, which are defined as that two players in
each dimer always hold a same strategy. We find that influences of dimers on
cooperation depend on the type of dimers and the population structure. For
those dimers in which players interact with each other, the cooperation level
increases with the number of dimers though the cooperation improvement level
depends on the type of network structures. On the other hand, the dimers, in
which there are not mutual interactions, will not do any good to the
cooperation level in a single community, but interestingly, will improve the
cooperation level in a population with two communities. We explore the
relationship between dimers and self-interactions and find that the effects of
dimers are similar to that of self-interactions. Also, we find that the dimers,
which are established over two communities in a multi-community network, act as
one type of interaction through which information between communities is
communicated by the requirement that two players in a dimer hold a same

Introducing the generalized, non-extensive statistics proposed by
Tsallis[1988], into the standard s-wave pairing BCS theory of superconductivity
in 2D yields a reasonable description of many of the main properties of high
temperature superconductors, provided some allowance is made for non-phonon

Exact soliton solution and inelastic two-soliton collision in spin chain driven by a time-dependent magnetic field
We investigate dynamics of exact N-soliton trains in spin chain driven by a
time-dependent magnetic field by means of an inverse scattering transformation.
The one-soliton solution indicates obviously the spin precession around the
magnetic field and periodic shape-variation induced by the time varying field
as well. In terms of the general soliton solutions N-soliton interaction and
particularly various two-soliton collisions are analyzed. The inelastic
collision by which we mean the soliton shape change before and after collision
appears generally due to the time varying field. We, moreover, show that
complete inelastic collisions can be achieved by adjusting spectrum and field
parameters. This may lead a potential technique of shape control of soliton.Comment: 5 pages, 5 figure
