    Self-Efficacy Perceptions of Middle School Reading Teachers in Majority Minority Inclusive Classrooms on their Ability to Achieve Students Success.

    According to the U.S. Department of Education National Center for Education Statistics (NCES, 2022), the number of students who require special accommodations in the classroom continues to increase. Because studies have shown that positive outcomes for students are directly linked to the self-efficacy of educators (Lotter et al., 2018; Neugebauer et al., 2019), educators who serve these populations must possess high levels of positive self-efficacy to handle the challenges associated with inclusive settings and specialized skills needed to achieve student success. The purpose of this study, which was guided and supported by the Social Cognitive Theory (Bandura, 1986), was to examine teacher self-efficacy perceptions of their ability to achieve student success in majority-minority inclusive classrooms and analyze the relationships between self-efficacy perceptions and age, gender, race, years of experience, level of education, and certification status of the participants. In this quantitative study, the research design was Correlational. The researcher investigated middle school reading teachers\u27 perceptions of their ability to achieve success. Data was collected via an online survey of the Teacher Self-Efficacy Scale (Bandura, 1999), a valid instrument, coded and analyzed via SPSS utilizing the Multiple Regression statistical model. Data results showed significant relationships between personal demographic independent variables, age, gender, and race, (p\u3c.001) and combined personal and social demographic predictor variables, age, gender, race, years of experience, level of education, and special education certification status, (p\u3c.001) and the dependent variable, teacher self-efficacy perceptions of their ability to achieve student success in majority-minority inclusive classrooms

    Anytime Cognition: An information agent for emergency response

    Planning under pressure in time-constrained environments while relying on uncertain information is a challenging task. This is particularly true for planning the response during an ongoing disaster in a urban area, be that a natural one, or a deliberate attack on the civilian population. As the various activities pertaining to the emergency response need to be coordinated in response to multiple reports from the disaster site, a user finds itself cognitively overloaded. To address this issue, we designed the Anytime Cognition (ANTICO) concept to assist human users working in time-constrained environments by maintaining a manageable level of cognitive workload over time. Based on the ANTICO concept, we develop an agent framework for proactively managing a user’s changing information requirements by integrating information management techniques with probabilistic plan recognition. In this paper, we describe a prototype emergency response application in the context of a subset of the attacks devised by the American Department of Homeland Security

    A cognitive architecture for emergency response

    Plan recognition, cognitive workload estimation and human assistance have been extensively studied in the AI and human factors communities, resulting in many techniques being applied to domains of various levels of realism. These techniques have seldom been integrated and evaluated as complete systems. In this paper, we report on the development of an assistant agent architecture that integrates plan recognition, current and future user information needs, workload estimation and adaptive information presentation to aid an emergency response manager in making high quality decisions under time stress, while avoiding cognitive overload. We describe the main components of a full implementation of this architecture as well as a simulation developed to evaluate the system. Our evaluation consists of simulating various possible executions of the emergency response plans used in the real world and measuring the expected time taken by an unaided human user, as well as one that receives information assistance from our system. In the experimental condition of agent assistance, we also examine the effects of different error rates in the agent's estimation of user's stat or information needs

    Influence of camera distortions on satellite image registration and change detection applications

    Applications such as change detection and digital elevation model extraction from optical images require a rigorous modeling of the acquisition geometry. We show that the unrecorded satellite jitter during image acquisition, and the uncertainties on the CCD arrays geometry are the current major limiting factors for applications requiring high accuracy. These artifacts are identified and quantified on several optical satellites, i.e., SPOT, ASTER, QuickBird, and HiRISE

    Interaction of yeast eIF4G with spliceosome components Implications in pre-mRNA processing events

    International audienceAs evidenced from mammalian cells the eukaryotic translation initiation factor eIF4G has a putative role in nuclear RNA metabolism. Here we investigate whether this role is conserved in the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae. Using a combination of in vitro and in vivo methods, we show that, similar to mammalian eIF4G, yeast eIF4G homologues, Tif4631p and Tif4632p, are present both in the nucleus and the cytoplasm. We show that both eIF4G proteins interact efficiently in vitro with UsnRNP components of the splicing machinery. More specifically, Tif4631p and Tif4632p interact efficiently with U1 snRNA in vitro. In addition, Tif4631p and Tif4632p associate with protein components of the splicing machinery, namely Snu71p and Prp11p. To further delineate these interactions, we map the regions of Tif4631p and Tif4632p that are important for the interaction with Prp11p and Snu71p and we show that addition of these regions to splicing reactions in vitro has a dominant inhibitory effect. The observed interactions implicate eIF4G in aspects of pre-mRNA processing. In support of this hypothesis, deletion of one of the eIF4G isoforms results in accumulation of un-spliced precursors for a number of endogenous genes, in vivo. In conclusion these observations are suggestive of the involvement of yeast eIF4G in pre-mRNA metabolism
