Fémek, ötvözetek és oxidok vizsgálata a Sűrűség Funkcionál Elmélet segítségével = Ab-initio Density Functional study of metals, alloys and oxides
Matter, 1 Journal of Physics and Chemistry of Solids, 2 Physics of the Earth and Planetary Interiors, 1 Earth and Planetary Science Letters, 1 Physica Scripta, 1 Journal of Applied Physics és 2 Computational Materials Science. | We developed a new method based on the Exact Muffin-Tin Orbitals theory. The method offers unique vistas in the field of computational alloy theory, since it is suitable for an accurate determination of the anisotropic lattice distortions in random alloys. Within the present OTKA project, we have further developed this method, implemented a large number of technical and methodological details, and finalized the EMTO5.3-5.7 computer programs. From the EMTO method and its most important applications we have published a book in 2007. Today the EMTO method is used in more than 16 different countries by more than 100 researchers. Other important achievements within the present OTKA are the two international workshops organized in 2005 and 2008 at HAS Research Institute for Solid State Physics and Optics. During the last four years, using the EMTO method, we presented an insight to the electronic and magnetic structure, and micro-mechanical properties of a series of technologically important alloys. This research was carried out along the lines described in the OTKA Project Plan. From the results, we have published 41 scientific articles: 1 book, 1 book chapter, 1 Science, 4 Phys.l Rev. Lett.s, 3 Surf. Sci., 18 Phys. Rev. B, 1 Acta Materialia, 3 Appl. Phys. Lett., 1 J. Phys.: Condens. Matter, 1 J. Phys. Alloying effect on the ideal tensile strength of ferromagnetic and paramagnetic bcc iron
Using \emph{ab initio} alloy theory formulated within the exact muffin-tin
orbitals theory in combination with the coherent potential approximation, we
investigate the ideal tensile strength (ITS) in the direction of bcc
ferro-/ferrimagnetic (FFM) and paramagnetic (PM) Fe ( Al, V,
Cr, Mn, Co, or Ni) random alloys. The ITS of ferromagnetic (FM) Fe is
calculated to be \,GPa, in agreement with available data, while the PM
phase turns out to posses a significantly lower value of GPa. Alloyed to
the FM matrix, we predict that V, Cr, and Co increase the ITS of Fe, while Al
and Ni decrease it. Manganese yields a weak non-monotonic alloying behavior. In
comparison to FM Fe, the alloying effect of Al and Co to PM Fe is reversed and
the relative magnitude of the ITS can be altered more strongly for any of the
solutes. All considered binaries are intrinsically brittle and fail by cleavage
of the planes under uniaxial tensile loading in both magnetic phases.
We show that the previously established ITS model based on structural energy
differences proves successful in the PM Fe-alloys but is of limited use in the
case of the FFM Fe-based alloys. The different performance is attributed to the
specific interplay between magnetism and volume change in response to uniaxial
tension. We establish a strong correlation between the compositional effect on
the ITS and the one on the shear elastic constant for the PM alloys and
briefly discuss the relation between hardenability and the ITS.Comment: 6 figure
Kvantummechanikai számítások felületekre; felületi feszültség és szegregáció = First principles calculations for surfaces; surface stress and segregation
Számitásainkban a sürüségfunkcionál elmélet keretein belül különböző elektronszerkezet számitási módszereket alkalmaztunk, melyeket részben mi fejlesztettünk ki. 2008-ban egy workshopot rendeztünk “New challenges in the Electronic Structure of Complex Materials” cimmel, 40 résztvevővel tiz különböző országból. Az OTKA projekt keretei között számos folyóiratcikket publikáltunk a számitógépes anyagtudomány különböző területeiről (48 publikáció, 136.16 összesitett impakt faktor). A számos eredmény között három fő területre fokuszáltuk kutatásainkat: i/ Felületi relaxáció és stressz átmeneti fémekben, ii/ Véletlen ötvözetek felületi szegregációja, iii/ Félvezetők felületi rekonstrukciója. | The aim of the project during the last five years was to carry out quantum-mechanical calculations for describing the surface and bulk properties of metals, alloys and compounds. We believe that as a result of this project we have managed to get a deeper insight in the surface physics for a wide range of materials and different surface phenomena. In these descriptions we have applied the density functional theory, and partly the electronic structure calculation methods that we have developed earlier. In 2008 we have organized a Workshop on “New challenges in the Electronic Structure of Complex Materials” (June 29 - July 1, 2008), with 40 participants from ten different countries. During the project we have published several papers (48 publications, total impact factor 136.16) in a large variety of fields of computational material science. Among these results we have focused on three main areas: i/ Surface relaxation and stress of transition metals, ii/ Surface segregation of random alloys, and iii/ Reconstruction of semiconductor surfaces
