This study examined the potential risks factors associated with sexually harassing behaviors within the framework of the four-factor model of sexual harassment. The factors examined are unprofessional work environment, skewed gender ratio in the workplace, knowledge of grievance procedure for sexual harassment, sexist attitudes among co-workers, privacy of workspace, physical attractiveness, dress manner of victims, job status, and sex roles. The dependent variable is incidence of sexual harassment which was evaluated using the Sexual Experience Questionnaire developed by Fitzgerald, Shullman, Bailey, Richards, Swecker, Gold, Ormerod, and Weitzman (1988). Data were collected from 657 women employees working in Malaysian organizations. The findings showed that the predictions of the four-factor model are also largely true in the case of the Malaysian workplace. The study also found that sexual harassment behaviors are fairly widespread in Malaysi

Employees' attitudes towards family friendly policies

As employees increasingly face challenges in balancing work with family commitments, the workplace could provide support and practical solutions to their stressful lives. Thus family friendly policies could play an important role in attracting and retaining workers. Family friendly policies are considered as any benefit or working condition that employees enjoy in order to achieve some balance in their family and working life. This study was conducted to determine the extent to which family friendly policies are practised in organizations in the Klang Valley, as well as the perceptions of employees towards such policies. A questionnaire was designed for the study. Based on the data collected from a sample of 113 workers, the findings revealed that a gap existed between what employees actually wanted and what organizations were offering in terms of these policies. Respondents favoured these policies, whether male or female, as well as with or without dependents. The findings have implications for employers, as a greater emphasis on these policies could affect the productivity and morale of workers

Job satisfaction and conflict among technical employees in selected Malaysian Engineering Firms

In view of the crucial role of technical workers in the Malaysian workforce, research on their job satisfaction and conflict provides an insight into their distinct sets of norms and values that differ from employees engaged in other professions. The objective of this paper is to identify the factors that affect the job satisfaction of this group of employees through a survey. The results of the survey show that employees in the design department are least satisfied towards each facet of the job while those in the quality control department have the least overall job satisfaction. Similar results are also obtained when the sample is stratified by the various demographic factors. Moreover, intergroup conflict may be negatively related to overall job satisfaction. Engineers in the companies urveyed experienced the lowest level of job satisfaction as compared to the managers and supervisors

Wearable Soft Microtube Sensors for Quantitative Home-Based Erectile Dysfunction Monitoring

Quantifiable erectile dysfunction (ED) diagnosis involves the monitoring of rigidity and tumescence of the penile shaft during nocturnal penile tumescence (NPT). In this work, we introduce Erectile Dysfunction SENsor (EDSEN), a home-based wearable device for quantitative penile health monitoring based on stretchable microtubular sensing technology. Two types of sensors, the T- and R-sensors, are developed to effectively measure penile tumescence and rigidity, respectively. Conical models mimicking penile shaft were fabricated with polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) material, using different base to curing agent ratios to replicate the different hardness properties of a penile shaft. A theoretical buckling force chart for the different penile models is generated to determine sufficiency criteria for sexual intercourse. An average erect penile length and circumference requires at least a Young’s modulus of 179 kPa for optimal buckling force required for satisfactory sexual intercourse. The conical penile models were evaluated using EDSEN. Our results verified that the circumference of a penile shaft can be accurately measured by T-sensor and rigidity using the R-sensor. EDSEN provides a private and quantitative method to detect ED within the comfortable confines of the user’s home

Unmanned systems in integrating cross-domain naval fires

Systems Engineering Capstone Project ReportThe ability to communicate and transmit targeting data via the electromagnetic spectrum is crucial to the Navy's ability to fight. However, in recent years, potential adversaries have significantly advanced their electronic warfare capabilities, obtaining an ability to interfere with the Navy's use of the electromagnetic spectrum during operations in contested environments. SEA23 investigates concepts of operation focusing on future potential electromagnetic-spectrum warfighting capabilities in the 2025Ð2030 timeframe. Specifically, we explore these capabilities using modular unmanned and manned platforms capable of carrying communications and data suites to enable cross-domain targeting information in support of tactical offensive operations in a contested, denied, degraded, intermittent, and limited-bandwidth environment. This project focuses on developing a system-of-systems architecture and analyzing alternatives to provide potential solutions while developing the associated concepts of operation. We recommend an architecture based on Link 16 and organic rotary-wing unmanned aerial vehicles to transfer sensor to shooter data in demanding and contested environments.http://archive.org/details/unmannedsystemsi1094549381Approved for public release; distribution is unlimited
