    Sergei Prokofiev\u27s Third Piano Sonata, OP. 28: Stylistic Analysis and Performance Suggestions

    Sergei Prokofiev (1891-1953) was one of the greatest Russian pianists and composers of the twentieth century. He established his own musical style by combining classical form and modern compositional techniques. He composed a variety of piano music including nine piano sonatas. This paper is a study of the third piano sonata in A minor, op. 28. Prokofiev’s music can be classified into three periods: a Russian Period, a Foreign Period, and a Soviet Period. It is possible to identify Prokofiev’s compositional styles by studying his piano sonatas because he composed piano sonatas during the entire course of his life. In this document, a review of Prokofiev’s life and music and a brief survey of his nine piano sonatas precede an analysis of Prokofiev’s Piano Sonata no. 3, op. 28. This sonata is the composer’s most popular sonata for piano recitals. In chapter IV, performance suggestions follow a stylistic analysis. It is valuable to analyze stylistically in order to perform successfully. Pianists will require a high level of technique to play this piece. There are many kinds of performance suggestions. This paper contains some helpful suggestions for pianists with regard to pedaling and fingering, and regarding what Prokofiev called his “modern line” and his “toccata line.

    Production of Radiation-Induced Compounds in Irradiated Raw and Cooked Meats

    The objective of this study was to determine the best irradiation markers in irradiated meat. Raw and cooked beef loins, pork loins and chicken thighs were irradiated at 0 or 5 kGy. The amounts of hydrocarbons, 2-alkylcyclobutanones, and sulfur volatiles were determined after 0 and 6 months of frozen storage. Two hydrocarbons (8-heptadecene (C17:1) and 6,9-heptadecadiene (C17:2)) and two 2- alkylcyclobutanones (2-dodecylcyclobutanone (DCB) and 2-tetradecylcyclobutanone (TCB)) were detected only in irradiated raw and cooked meats. Although pre-cooked irradiated meats produced more hydrocarbons and 2- alkylcyclobutanones than the irradiated cooked ones, the amounts of individual hydrocarbons and 2- alkylcyclobutanones, such as 8-heptadecene, 6,9- heptadecadiene, DCB, and TCB, were sufficient enough to identify whether the meat was irradiated or not. Dimethyl disulfide and dimethyl trisulfide were detected only in irradiated meats, but dimethyl trisulfide disappeared after 6 months of frozen storage under oxygen permeable packaging conditions. This indicated that only dimethyl disulfide could be used as an irradiation marker for the meat stored in frozen conditions for a long time

    Parent Prevention Communication Profiles and Adolescent Substance Use: A Latent Profile Analysis and Growth Curve Model

    This current study identifies distinct parent prevention communication profiles and examines whether youth with different parental communication profiles have varying substance use trajectories over time. Eleven schools in two rural school districts in the Midwestern United States were selected, and 784 students were surveyed at three time points from the beginning of 7th grade to the end of 8th grade. A series of latent profile analyses were performed to identify discrete profiles/subgroups of substance-specific prevention communication (SSPC). The results revealed a 4-profile model of SSPC: Active-Open, Passive-Open, Active-Silent, and Passive-Silent. A growth curve model revealed different rates of lifetime substance use depending on the youth’s SSPC profile. These findings have implications for parenting interventions and tailoring messages for parents to fit specific SSPC profiles

    Spin-orbit coupling-enhanced valley ordering of malleable bands in twisted bilayer graphene on WSe2

    New phases of matter can be stabilized by a combination of diverging electronic density of states, strong interactions, and spin-orbit coupling. Recent experiments in magic-angle twisted bilayer graphene (TBG) have uncovered a wealth of novel phases as a result of interaction-driven spin-valley flavour polarization. In this work, we explore correlated phases appearing due to the combined effect of spin-orbit coupling-enhanced valley polarization and large density of states below half filling (ν≲2\nu \lesssim 2) of the moir\'e band in a TBG coupled to tungsten diselenide. We observe anomalous Hall effect, accompanied by a series of Lifshitz transitions, that are highly tunable with carrier density and magnetic field. Strikingly, the magnetization shows an abrupt sign change in the vicinity of half-filling, confirming its orbital nature. The coercive fields reported are about an order of magnitude higher than previous studies in graphene-based moir\'e systems, presumably aided by a Stoner instability favoured by the van Hove singularities in the malleable bands. While the Hall resistance is not quantized at zero magnetic fields, indicative of a ground state with partial valley polarization, perfect quantization and complete valley polarization are observed at finite fields. Our findings illustrate that singularities in the flat bands in the presence of spin-orbit coupling can stabilize ordered phases even at non-integer moir\'e band fillings.Comment: 17 pages, 15 figure

    Packaging and Antenna-Assembled Hybrid Stacked PCB with Novel Vertical Transition for 39 GHz 5G Base Stations

    This paper proposes a novel packaging and large-scale antenna-assembled structure for a printed circuit board (PCB) that reinforces productivity, facilitates cost reduction, and maintains reliability. This was achieved by splitting the antenna from the main board and packaging it into a radio-frequency integrated circuit. In addition, two innovative solutions—an externally attachable flexible PCB antenna and a PCB-embedded coaxial line—are introduced to overcome the degradation in antenna performance and vertical RF transition loss in the proposed low-cost hybrid PCB. First, the proposed externally attachable flexible PCB antenna and a parasitic air-coupled antenna, which were easily assembled on the PCB, achieved an antenna efficiency of 95% and an impedance bandwidth of 7 GHz. Second, the fabricated coaxial line exhibited enhanced impedance matching over a wide frequency range of 30–40 GHz and improved insertion loss of approximately 1.4 dB. Furthermore, the packaged antenna, composed of 256 dual-polarized antenna elements per stream, incorporated a 39 GHz CMOS-based 16-channel phased-array transceiver IC. The set-level beam-forming measurements were verified considering an effective isotropic radiated power of 55 dBm at boresight and a steering range >±60°. In addition to being suitable for mass production in terms of cost and reliability, the proposed structures and solutions met the required antenna and beam-forming performance for commercial 39 GHz base stations without sacrificing performance
