Confinement From The Gauge Invariant Abelian Decomposition
A common approach while considering confinement is to study the dominance of
an Abelian subgroup of the SU(3) gauge Links. A good way to find the Abelian
component of the field is through the Cho-Guan-De gauge invariant Abelian
Decomposition, which uses a carefully chosen direction vector to split the
gauge field into an Abelian restricted field and a remnant coloured field. The
restricted field can be further subdivided into topological and non-topological
terms. We show that there is a choice of which allows us to exactly
represent the Wilson Loop of full QCD as a function of only the restricted
Abelian field without requiring any path ordering or additional path integrals.
We present numerical evidence showing that the topological part of the
restricted field dominates the string tension. We also show that contains
certain topological objects, which, if they exist, will be at least partially
responsible for confinement. These leave distinctive patterns in the restricted
field strength, and we search for these structures in quenched lattice QCD.Comment: Lattice 2013 (Vacuum structure), Mainz, July 2013; 7 page

Our cool leader : anti-North Korea propaganda
textCurious as to how the Kim regime of North Korea could have controlled people for 70 years by making idols of themselves, I felt strongly that I had to do something to end the absurdity and to bring freedom to the people of the country. To this end, I believed the best way is to point out the self-contradiction of Kim Jong-un and his regime, was to present an anti-North Korea propaganda image based on the irrational facts of North Korea. The ultimate aims of this thesis project are: 1) to reveal the true North Korean life and people’s suffering, which is masked behind Kim Jung-un's propaganda and, 2) to send an anti-North Korean propaganda message into its territory. Our Cool Leader: Anti-North Korea propaganda, therefore, was intended to be an audience participation event. An artifact, a satirical bust sculpture of Kim Jong-un, and the related mask performance allowed audiences to explore how North Korea Propaganda works and view the propaganda images of anti-North Korea. In the final act, I intend to send the recorded performance video and anti-propaganda leaflets to North Korea.Theatre and Danc
All-fiber fused directional coupler for highly efficient spatial mode conversion
We model and demonstrate a simple mode selective all-fiber coupler capable of exciting specific higher order modes in two- and few-mode fibres with high efficiency and purity. The coupler is based on inter-modally phase-matching the propagation constants in each arm of the asymmetric fused coupler, formed by dissimilar fibres. At a specific coupler diameter, the launched fundamental LP01 mode is coupled into the higher order mode (LP11, LP21, LP02) in the other arm, over a broadband wavelength range around 1550 nm. Unlike other techniques, the demonstrated coupler is composed of a multimode fiber that is weakly fused with a phase matched conventional single mode telecom fiber (SMF-28). The beating between the supermodes at the coupler waist produces a periodic power transfer between the two arms, and therefore, by monitoring the beating while tapering, it is possible to obtain optimum selection for the desired mode. High coupling efficiencies in excess of 90% for all the higher order modes were recorded over 100 nm spectral range, while insertion losses remain as low as 0.5 dB. Coupling efficiency can be further enhanced by performing slow tapering at high temperature, in order to precisely control the coupler cross-section geometry
Coulomb Driven New Bound States at the Integer Quantum Hall States in GaAs/Al(0.3)Ga(0.7)As Single Heterojunctions
Coulomb driven, magneto-optically induced electron and hole bound states from
a series of heavily doped GaAs/Al(0.3)Ga(0.7)As single heterojunctions (SHJ)
are revealed in high magnetic fields. At low magnetic fields (nu > 2), the
photoluminescence spectra display Shubnikov de-Haas type oscillations
associated with the empty second subband transition. In the regime of the
Landau filling factor nu < 1 and 1 < nu <2, we found strong bound states due to
Mott type localizations. Since a SHJ has an open valence band structure, these
bound states are a unique property of the dynamic movement of the valence holes
in strong magnetic fields
Dynamics of quantum spin systems in dimer and valence-bond solid ground states stabilized by competing interactions
For special coupling ratios, the one-dimensional (1D) s=1/2 Heisenberg model
with antiferromagnetic nearest and next-nearest neighbor interactions has a
pure dimer ground state, and the 1D s=1 Heisenberg model with antiferromagnetic
bilinear and biquadratic interactions has an exact valence-bond-solid ground
state. The recursion method is used to calculate the T=0 spin dynamic structure
factor for both models and, for the s=1/2 model, also the dimer dynamic
structure factor. New results for line shapes and dynamically relevant
dispersions are obtained.Comment: RevTex file, 3 ps figure
