Evaluation of the low speed winds power as an alternative source of energy

Artykuł analizuje możliwości pozyskiwania energii ze słabych wiatrów o prędkościach od 2.0 do 5.Om/s do zastosowań w indywidualnych gospodarstwach domowych. Analizie poddano szereg rozwiązań turbin wiatrowych zbliżonych konstrukcyjnie do idei turbiny Savoniusa. Na podstawie przeprowadzonych badań określono ilość energii jaką można uzyskać i następnie wykorzystać w gospodarstwie domowym.This paper aims to demonstrate the possibility of production of useful electrical energy from the low speed winds, ranging from 2.0 to 5.0m/s. Several models of Savonius like vertical axis wind turbine had been tested. Based on the results, the amount of useful energy have been evaluated which can be extracted and used in the households equipped with the individual wind installations

Water treatment involving filters made of nonwoven-active carbon composites

The composite melt-blown materials designed and manufactured by the Textile Research Institute (Łódź) have a high sorbing capacity. The nonwoven-active carbon composites, which have been widely used in the manufacture of face masks for the protection of the respiratory system, can be of equal utility when applied as a filtering medium in contact filtration, which is part of many water treatment trains. According to the research staff of the Textile Research Institute and of the Chair of Water Management, Technical University of Łódź, packets made of composite melt-blown materials can be used in high-rate gravity filters to remove trace pollutants (including microorganisms), coloured matter, TOC and PAHs. Such filters are particularly useful when treating surface water with no suspended solids

Colmatage properties of selected sediment fractions sedimenting in street rain drainage

System kanalizacji jest zespołem obiektów i urządzeń technicznych, którego zadaniem jest odprowadzanie i unieszkodliwianie ścieków z jednostek osadniczych i zakładów przemysłowych. W miastach woda opadowa utrudnia transport kołowy oraz pieszy, a także niszczy nawierzchnię, dlatego podczas budowy nowych osiedli kanalizacja deszczowa jest jednym z podstawowych elementów uzbrojenia terenu. W systemie kanalizacji deszczowej osady ściekowe tworzą się w miejscach, gdzie przepływ ścieków umożliwia sedymentację najcięższych części stałych i częściowo zawiesin, czyli we wpustach ulicznych będących pierwszym elementem zespołu urządzeń stosowanych do oczyszczania ścieków opadowych.The article presents the results of research into sediments, which were accumulated in septic drains rainwater drainage. The four entries were chosen from the catchment in the city of Bialystok, which have different ways of management and different types of supported area. The results of research show that the phenomenon of clogging filtration decreases the rate of water and infiltration. Occurring in the soil infiltration silting processes can become the cause of sealing the bottom of the reservoirs

Polypropylene fleece as a hydrostatic layer

The phenomenon of floods in Poland is quite often. The reason for its occurrence can be seen in the absence of proper regulation of rivers. These actions had the intention to protect against flooding, resulting in many cases only in increase of its effects. This paper presents the results of the preliminary assessment of the resistance posed by hydrophobic fiber on filtered water in the form of a loose fleece. For polypropylene fibers were used – PP, which can be used in the form of a mats to form the outer casing levees
