Horizon cross : a parafictional history through photographs.

Horizon Cross: A Parafictional History Through Photographs is a body of work that dwells within the intersection between truth and fiction in photography. It is informed by the history of hoax photographs and my fascination with the Large Hadron Collider in Switzerland and black holes, the space-time boundary of which is known as an event horizon. I have imagined into being a community in northern Ontario Province, equipped with the technology of the mid-nineteenth century but also with concepts far ahead of their time. To portray the inhabitants of Horizon Cross I have created photographic portraits of fictional people that I am presenting as cabinet cards, in order to reference a specific moment in time through the use of historically appropriate photographic processes as well as to explore portraiture and create photographic artifacts. I have combined historically appropriate imagery in the cabinet cards with imagery unique to Horizon Cross. Like my concept of fact and fiction, my technical process is a hybrid of modern digital and traditional chemical based photography: it is important that the cabinet cards are albumen prints mounted on cardstock that have been letter pressed with era appropriate graphic design and fonts. While I may have created the individual portraits, I have assembled them collectively as evidence of the existence of Horizon Cross

La rapide création du Parc Naturel marin de Mayotte

Le second Parc Naturel marin français a été officialisé à Mayotte en janvier 2010. C’est à la fois le résultat d’une procédure rapide et d’une forte détermination politique. Il marque clairement la volonté de la France de gérer un large espace dans le sud-ouest de l’océan Indien même si les moyens d’action restent à déterminer. Au-delà de la protection environnementale, le Parc est perçu comme un outil utile à cette île encore synonyme de sous-développement. De la pêche au tourisme, bien des activités espèrent tirer profit de la dynamique enclenchée.The 2nd french Marine Protected Area was officially created in Mayotte in January 2010, thanks both to a swift procedure and to a strong determined policy. It clearly shows the will of France to manage a broad area in south-west of the Indian Ocean even if its means of action are still to settle. Beyond environemental protection, the park is seen as a useful tool for an island still considered as emergent. From fishing to tourism, many activities hope to take advantage from the dynamic set in motion

Dénoncer les conventionnels pendant la Terreur et la Réaction thermidorienne : des logiques et pratiques entre local et national

Pour beaucoup, Révolution et dénonciation sont intimement liées. La dénonciation, une pratique pourtant fort ancienne, a connu il est vrai un certain renouveau grâce à l’idéologie de la transparence, notamment durant la Terreur et la Réaction thermidorienne. Les représentants du peuple n’ont pas été épargnés par ce phénomène puisque plus de cinq cents lettres ont été écrites pour dénoncer des conventionnels. Ces lettres, dont la plupart ont été envoyées pendant la Réaction thermidorienne, montrent la façon dont les Français perçoivent les événements nationaux à l’aune de leurs expériences sur le terrain. La dénonciation en effet s’inscrit dans cette double appartenance, locale et nationale, et montre la façon dont on a essayé de « sortir de la Terreur » dans certains départements.For many, the Revolution and the practice of denunciation are intimately linked. A practice with a long history, denunciation witnessed a marked revival during the Revolution, thanks to the ideology of transparency, notably during the Terror and the Thermidorian Reaction. The representatives on mission were not spared by this phenomenon, since more than five hundred letters were written to denounce these conventionnels. These letters, most of them sent during the Thermidorian Reaction, show how the French perceived national events in light of their experiences on the ground level. Technological form defects identification using discrete cosine transform method

Some simulation methods calculating position and orientation defect of manufactured surfaces have already been developed. A lack in these methods is the integration of form defect of surfaces. Indeed, many methods do not study manufactured surfaces, but nominal models associated to these surfaces. The method developed in this article proposes a tool describing precisely form error in order to take it into account. The work is based on a method of the literature, using discrete cosine transformation, completed by a method for identification of classical defects composing global form error and quantification of their contribution to this defect.
