    A parasitoid complex affecting the forest tent caterpillar, Malacosoma disstria, was investigated during 1978-79 in shelterbelts in eastern Wyoming. Egg parasitoids included five species: Ablerus clisiocampae, Ooencyrtus clisiocampae, Telenomus clisiocampae, Tetrastichus sp. 1 and Telenomus sp. Thirteen hymenopterous species and five dipterous species were reared from larvae and pupae of the forest tent caterpillar. The most common 5th-instar larval parasitoids were the tachinid flies, Lespesia archippivora and Archytas lateralis. Of the pupal parasitoids reared, 640/0 were Diptera and 36% were Hymenoptera. Four previously unrecorded parasitoids of M. disstria were reared: Cotesia alalantae, Macrocentrus irridescens, Pimpla sanguinipes erythropus, and Lespesia flavifrons.

    Principal Evaluation in the United States: A National Review of State Statutes and Regulations

    The growing recognition of how much principals matter for student learning and how they make a difference has fueled the need to ensure that effective principals are leading every school. One way to achieve this is through principal evaluation, which has experienced significant changes in the last decade. We conducted a national exploratory study (50 states) to document the trends in and provide an illustration of the current situation of states’ principal evaluation policies and practices. Using literature-based themes, our analysis of state statutes and regulations revealed that a majority of states have policies requiring at least one literature-based element. Only four (8%) states had statutes and/or regulations regarding allelements of principal evaluation that have been noted in the literature. Student achievement measures were the most common component—required in 66% of states. In addition, most states required principal evaluators to be trained and principals to be evaluated annually. We propose that future research focuses on the validity and reliability of measures and models used for principal evaluation—two aspects rarely addressed in principal evaluation policies—to ensure principal performance is meeting the needs of students, teachers, and schools

    A rapid microwell fluorescence immunoassay for cellular protein detection

    In this paper, we describe a simple, rapid, specific, sensitive, and reliable method, the FICP method (Fluorescence Immunoassay for Cellular Protein detection) which is readily applicable to the detection of proteins directly on cells cultured in 96-well plates. In order to illustrate this method, we report on the detection of two different proteins, the cell cycle proteins cyclin D1 and p21CIP1/WAF1, in untreated and 2-cyclopenten-1-one treated breast cancer cells. When the FICP method was compared with Western blot procedure, FICP was found to be superior for many characteristics. By using this method, we were able to quantify biological effects of a specific compound on protein levels in non-lysed cells and perform statistical analysis. Therefore, we believe this screening assay could be very useful for detecting poorly expressed proteins and for drug development

A first detector detects the passage of the first torsion reference member past the first detector upon each full rotation of the rotating member and to generate a first signal upon each passage of the first torsion reference member. A second detector detects the passage of the second torsion reference member past the second detector upon each full rotation of the rotating member and to generate a second signal upon each passage of the second torsion reference member.
