    The research objective is to determine the impact of relationship management with land transportation service providers to the performance of the port with a mediation service that adds value to the PT. Indonesia Vehicle Terminal (IKT), Tanjung Priok, Jakarta. The study uses a quantitative approach to associative and the data processed by the program LISREL 8.8. The sample was 100 of service users with quota sampling technique. Data analysis was conducted using descriptive and inferential statistical path analysis. The results show: relationship management with providers of land transportation services have a direct positive impact and significant to the performance of the port, services that provide added value affect prositive direct impact and significant to the performance of the port, the relationship management with providers of land transportation services have a positive direct impact and significant to the service that provides value added, and the relationship management with providers of land transportation services have positive indirect impact and significant to the performance of the port with a mediation service that adds value. The conclusion is relationship management with providers of land transportation services has an impact on the performance of the port with a mediation service that adds value, therefore performance can be improved through the port relationship management with providers of land transportation services and services that provide added value

    Dislocation interactions mediated by grain boundaries

    The dynamics of dislocation assemblies in deforming crystals indicate the emergence of collective phenomena, intermittent fluctuations and strain avalanches. In polycrystalline materials, the understanding of plastic deformation mechanisms depends on grasping the role of grain boundaries on dislocation motion. Here the interaction of dislocations and elastic, low angle grain boundaries is studied in the framework of a discrete dislocation representation. We allow grain boundaries to deform under the effect of dislocation stress fields and compare the effect of such a perturbation to the case of rigid grain boudaries. We are able to determine, both analytically and numerically, corrections to dislocation stress fields acting on neighboring grains, as mediated by grain boundary deformation. Finally, we discuss conclusions and consequences for the avalanche statistics, as observed in polycrystalline samples.Comment: 13 pages, 5 figure

    Computer-aided Detection in Computed Tomography Colonography with Full Fecal Tagging: Comparison of Standalone Performance of 3 Automated Polyp Detection Systems

    AbstractPurposeWe sought to compare the performance of 3 computer-aided detection (CAD) polyp algorithms in computed tomography colonography (CTC) with fecal tagging.MethodsCTC data sets of 33 patients were retrospectively analysed by 3 different CAD systems: system 1, MedicSight; system 2, Colon CAD; and system 3, Polyp Enhanced View. The polyp database comprised 53 lesions, including 6 cases of colorectal cancer, and was established by consensus reading and comparison with colonoscopy. Lesions ranged from 6-40 mm, with 25 lesions larger than 10 mm in size. Detection and false-positive (FP) rates were calculated.ResultsCAD systems 1 and 2 could be set to have varying sensitivities with higher FP rates for higher sensitivity levels. Sensitivities for system 1 ranged from 73%–94% for all lesions (78%–100% for lesions ≥10 mm) and, for system 2, from 64%–94% (78%–100% for lesions ≥10 mm). System 3 reached an overall sensitivity of 76% (100% for lesions ≥10 mm). The mean FP rate per patient ranged from 8–32 for system 1, from 1–8 for system 2, and was 5 for system 3. At the highest sensitivity level for all polyps (94%), system 2 showed a statistically significant lower FP rate compared with system 1 (P = .001). When analysing lesions ≥10 mm, system 3 had significantly fewer FPs than systems 1 and 2 (P < .012).ConclusionsStandalone CTC-CAD analysis in the selected patient collective showed the 3 systems tested to have a variable but overall promising performance with respect to sensitivity and the FP rate

    First-principles calculations of the structural, electronic, vibrational and magnetic properties of C_{60} and C_{48}N_{12}: a comparative study

    In this work, we perform first-principles calculations of the structural, electronic, vibrational and magnetic properties of a novel C48N12{\rm C}_{48}{\rm N}_{12} azafullerene. Full geometrical optimization shows that C48N12{\rm C}_{48}{\rm N}_{12} is characterized by several distinguishing features: only one nitrogen atom per pentagon, two nitrogen atoms preferentially sitting in one hexagon, S6{\rm S}_{6} symmetry, 6 unique nitrogen-carbon and 9 unique carbon-carbon bond lengths. The highest occupied molecular orbital of C48N12{\rm C}_{48}{\rm N}_{12} is a doubly degenerate level of aga_{g} symmetry and its lowest unoccupied molecular orbital is a nondegenerate level of aua_{u} symmetry. Vibrational frequency analysis predicts that C48N12{\rm C}_{48}{\rm N}_{12} has in total 116 vibrational modes: 58 infrared-active and 58 Raman-active modes. C48N12{\rm C}_{48}{\rm N}_{12} is also characterized by 8 13C^{13}{\rm C} and 2 15N^{15}{\rm N} NMR spectral signals. Compared to C60{\rm C}_{60}, C48N12{\rm C}_{48}{\rm N}_{12} shows an enhanced third-order optical nonlinearities which implies potential applications in optical limiting and photonics.Comment: a long version of our manuscript submitted to J.Chem.Phy

    Spatial fluctuations in transient creep deformation

    We study the spatial fluctuations of transient creep deformation of materials as a function of time, both by Digital Image Correlation (DIC) measurements of paper samples and by numerical simulations of a crystal plasticity or discrete dislocation dynamics model. This model has a jamming or yielding phase transition, around which power-law or Andrade creep is found. During primary creep, the relative strength of the strain rate fluctuations increases with time in both cases - the spatially averaged creep rate obeys the Andrade law ϵtt0.7\epsilon_t \sim t^{-0.7}, while the time dependence of the spatial fluctuations of the local creep rates is given by Δϵtt0.5\Delta \epsilon_t \sim t^{-0.5}. A similar scaling for the fluctuations is found in the logarithmic creep regime that is typically observed for lower applied stresses. We review briefly some classical theories of Andrade creep from the point of view of such spatial fluctuations. We consider these phenomenological, time-dependent creep laws in terms of a description based on a non-equilibrium phase transition separating evolving and frozen states of the system when the externally applied load is varied. Such an interpretation is discussed further by the data collapse of the local deformations in the spirit of absorbing state/depinning phase transitions, as well as deformation-deformation correlations and the width of the cumulative strain distributions. The results are also compared with the order parameter fluctuations observed close to the depinning transition of the 2dd Linear Interface Model or the quenched Edwards-Wilkinson equation.Comment: 27 pages, 18 figure

    Replicative aging is associated with loss of genetic heterogeneity from extrachromosomal circular DNA in <i>Saccharomyces cerevisiae</i>

In yeast, circular ribosomal DNA (rDNA) accumulates dramatically as cells age, however little is known about the accumulation of other chromosome-derived circles or the contribution of such circles to genetic variation in aged cells. We profiled circular DNA in Saccharomyces cerevisiae populations sampled when young and after extensive aging. Young cells possessed highly diverse circular DNA populations but 94% of the circular DNA were lost after ∼15 divisions, whereas rDNA circles underwent massive accumulation to >95% of circular DNA. Circles present in both young and old cells were characterized by replication origins including circles from unique regions of the genome and repetitive regions: rDNA and telomeric Y' regions. We further observed that circles can have flexible inheritance patterns: [HXT6/7circle] normally segregates to mother cells but in low glucose is present in up to 50% of cells, the majority of which must have inherited this circle from their mother. Interestingly, [HXT6/7circle] cells are eventually replaced by cells carrying stable chromosomal HXT6 HXT6/7 HXT7 amplifications, suggesting circular DNAs are intermediates in chromosomal amplifications. In conclusion, the heterogeneity of circular DNA offers flexibility in adaptation, but this heterogeneity is remarkably diminished with age.ISSN:1362-4962ISSN:0301-561

    The Role of the Receptor for Advanced Glycation End-Products in a Murine Model of Silicosis

    Background: The role of the receptor for advanced glycation end-products (RAGE) has been shown to differ in two different mouse models of asbestos and bleomycin induced pulmonary fibrosis. RAGE knockout (KO) mice get worse fibrosis when challenged with asbestos, whereas in the bleomycin model they are largely protected against fibrosis. In the current study the role of RAGE in a mouse model of silica induced pulmonary fibrosis was investigated. Methodology/Principal Findings: Wild type (WT) and RAGE KO mice received a single intratracheal (i.t.) instillation of silica in saline or saline alone as vehicle control. Fourteen days after treatment mice were subjected to a lung mechanistic study and the lungs were lavaged and inflammatory cells, protein and TGF-β levels in lavage fluid determined. Lungs were subsequently either fixed for histology or excised for biochemical assessment of fibrosis and determination of RAGE proteinand mRNA levels. There was no difference in the inflammatory response or degree of fibrosis (hydroxyproline levels) in the lungs between WT and RAGE KO mice after silica injury. However, histologically the fibrotic lesions in the RAGE KO mice had a more diffuse alveolar septal fibrosis compared to the nodular fibrosis in WT mice. Furthermore, RAGE KO mice had a significantly higher histologic score, a measure of affected areas of the lung, compared to WT silica treated mice. A lung mechanistic study revealed a significant decrease in lung function after silica compared to control, but no difference between WT and RAGE KO. While a dose response study showed similar degrees of fibrosis after silica treatment in the two strains, the RAGE KO mice had some differences in the inflammatory response compared to WT mice. Conclusions/Significance: Aside from the difference in the fibrotic pattern, these studies showed no indicators of RAGE having an effect on the severity of pulmonary fibrosis following silica injury. © 2010 Ramsgaard et al

    Relation of gallbladder function and Helicobacter pylori infection to gastric mucosa inflammation in patients with symptomatic cholecystolithiasis

    Background. Inflammatory alterations of the gastric mucosa are commonly caused by Helicobacter pylori (Hp) infection in patients with symptomatic gallstone disease. However, the additional pathogenetic role of an impaired gallbladder function leading to an increased alkaline duodenogastric reflux is controversially discussed. Aim:To investigate the relation of gallbladder function and Hp infection to gastric mucosa inflammation in patients with symptomatic gallstones prior to cholecystectomy. Patients: Seventy-three patients with symptomatic gallstones were studied by endoscopy and Hp testing. Methods: Gastritis classification was performed according to the updated Sydney System and gallbladder function was determined by total lipid concentration of gallbladder bile collected during mainly laparoscopic cholecystectomy. Results: Fifteen patients revealed no, 39 patients mild, and 19 moderate to marked gastritis. No significant differences for bile salts, phospholipids, cholesterol, or total lipids in gallbladder bile were found between these three groups of patients. However, while only 1 out of 54 (< 2%) patients with mild or no gastritis was found histologically positive for Hp, this infection could be detected in 14 (74%) out of 19 patients with moderate to marked gastritis. Conclusion: Moderate to marked gastric mucosa inflammation in gallstone patients is mainly caused by Hp infection, whereas gallbladder function is not related to the degree of gastritis. Thus, an increased alkaline duodenogastric reflux in gallstone patients seems to be of limited pathophysiological relevance. Copyright (c) 2006 S. Karger AG, Basel
