The results of this study show that family members influenced the decisions linked to convention travel to Las Vegas. As a secondary result of this study, family decision making in convention participation appeared to be slightly husband-dominant even though spouses perceived spousal equality in decision making roles. Among the studied variables, the two major motives for family convention travel were convention participation itself and spouses\u27 desire to accompany the participant on the trip. The respondents reported they best perceived their spouses\u27 preferences and desire to accompany them on the trip. Gender and household income appeared to be the strongest factors impacting the relative contribution of family members in convention travel decision maKing Families were generally satisfied with their convention travel to Las Vegas. The strongest contribution to this satisfaction was made by the convention attended itself rather than the other factors with Las Vegas\u27 tourist attractions. (Abstract shortened by UMI.)

This thesis will focus on the Broadway musical and its introduction onto the Las Vegas Strip, its growth in popularity as a viable entertainment choice for the tourist industry, and its current affiliation with specific resorts. Several Broadway musicals will be examined in an effort to discover elements contributing toward their success. I will briefly reflect upon the history of Broadway musicals as related to the Las Vegas Strip. Next I will explore the recent trend of resort casinos investing in venues aimed at housing a specific musical. The majority of my research information will be obtained from interviews, local periodicals and the Las Vegas Visitor and Convention Center. When this data is compiled and evaluated, I hope that I will be able to define the elements responsible for the success or lack thereof, the Broadway musical on the Las Vegas Strip

The Age of Information has changed the way we live since personal computers outsold TV sets, and the number of emails exceeded the number of regular stamped letters. For the last decade, the Las Vegas gaming market has changed toward not only the lavish gambling field that houses computerized slot/video machines and high speed Internet ready hotel rooms, but also a family entertainment resort and a major convention destination. These facts raised the question of how many computer/Internet literate gamblers are in Las Vegas, and whether it would influence on their slot/video machine gambling behaviors. This study found that 70% of slot/video machine players in Las Vegas use computer/Internet. Non-computer/Internet users, however, visited Las Vegas more often, played slot/video machines longer with larger budgets than other tested groups. They were more likely loyal to their chosen casinos and less likely to desire exceptional customer service

Analysis of casino table game tipping by Comdex conventioneers

This study analyzed the mean tips earned per table game dealer of a mega-resort casino located on the Las Vegas strip during Comdex, a large annual computer convention located in Las Vegas. Members of the media and gaming authorities have claimed that Comdex conventioneers do not gamble or tip as much as most convention attendees, yet no substantiated and documented explanation has been offered to explain why. This study hypothesized that Comdex conventioneers have the programmer personality, which is low in the personality dimensions of neuroticism and extraversion. Since the amount tipped has been shown to positively correlate with high levels of neuroticism and extraversion, lower levels of tip revenue should be observed if the programmer personality prevails among Comdex conventioneers. However, the results of the investigation failed to find lower mean tips earned per dealer during Comdex over a three year period
